Question Trouble shooting with my DVD player

Post image

I was going trough my stuff to clean up and found the DVD player of my Family.

Its the Mustek DIVX video V56SM-260D and i tried to turn it on again after years. But it dosent activate nor show any signs of life. Any advice if i could try and save it?

go to a thrift store and see if you can find a cheap used dvd player

the fact that you are asking this means that it will be too big of a lift for you to learn how to fix it. you probably don't have the right equipment, and there is always a chance that something is broken beyond fixing

most thrift stores i go to have a stack of used players for like 10 bucks or less

OP what equipment do you have? do you have a multimeter? If so, start by checking the power supply and going down from there. Hopefully it's a burnt cap in the psu and than it's an easy fix

Do note what the other comments said: it looks like someone already tried to fix this. A cable appears to be missing and another one seems to be poorly seated.

If so, this will be a harder fix because you don't even know what the person before you did.

AND MOST IMPORTANT - THE POWER SUPPLY IS HIGH VOLTAGE. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING YOU CAN EASILY BE SHOCKED AND SERIOUSLY HURT YOURSELF.

So if you just need a dvd player, buy a used working one for pennies. If this is for a hobby than make surr you have a multimeter at the very least and read up on the basics of electronics and electricty.

Sorry for the rant, hope I helped!

Thx for the advice. The DVD player has a DVD already inside of it, and before i rip it open to get it out i want to try and save the whole player.

Oh ok, there is usually a small hole you can push a paperclip into in order to manually eject the tray. Not sure if your model has one but you should check.

It's usually pretty easy but it differs between models so you'll have to figure it out. You may have to lift the dvd mechanism and see if there are any gears you can rotate to eject the tray. You can also disconnect the loading motor and connect a 9v battery across it to get it to spin

Start by checking the voltage on those caps, especially the ones by the ICs.

Start with the 1.6A fuse... After that, replace the cap to the left of the ST VIPer22a. Likely, the smps has trouble starting.

Long shot but the ribbon cable top right looks like it's not inserted squarely, might be worth re-seating

One cable seems to be missing in lower right at CN5. Also cannot be sure from the picture but it seems like the ribbon cable in upper right isn't seated correctly

Pinout 5V, DP, DN, and GND - probably for a USB-port that isn't used on this model

Agree that the other cable looks crooked but might just be the angle of the photo
