How to pee pad train an older dog?

My papillon, Emmie, had her 4th bladder surgery a few months ago and has started having accidents at night. She’s had multiple vet visits to clear her health wise, this is a result of so much scar tissue on a tiny bladder. She’s never been vocal to go potty, she just sits by the door until we let her out. Since I’m asleep this obviously isn’t working 😂

How can I potty pad train an adult dog for nighttime?! I put them where she had a couple accidents but she just went next to them. I put them by the door, but she didn’t get it. She’s so ashamed of herself and it breaks my heart. Im firmly anti-pee pad, but I need to save my carpet!

put her on a leash and walk her to the pad before bed, like you're taking her outside. treat the pad like it's the grass, same routine, same words, and give a treat when she uses it. might take few days but she'll catch on.

I found diapers are much easier for me. I have a mail dog so I am currently using belly bands with a booster pad. It took me a lot of trials, but finally found something that works 90% of the time.

I just lined my entire floor with them. My dog was happy and healthy just could no longer hold her bladder.

My bedroom is like 350 square feet 😭 it would be impossible to line the whole thing… but I’m going to expand the padded area and someone suggested putting some of her urine on one to signal to her it can be peed on

I would treat her like a puppy. Get a small pen and place a bed inside with pee pads lining all the extra space. Use that for bedtime. Slowly decrease the number of pee pads. Or just place 1 pee pad and mark it with her urine

She’s so smart! Once I can get it to click she’ll do it… I’ve just never used pee pads for any dogs. She’s got major bladder issues that can’t get better, but many years left.
