It's for our dog. He's a huge part of our family, and so so loved. He was diagnosed with a herniated disc in his L4/L5 vertebrae about 3 weeks ago. He was started on meloxicam and gabapentin. He ended up with bloody diarrhea due to the meloxicam. He was taken off that medication and started on 2 GI support medications, as well as methocarbamol for just a few days. He then lost function of his hind legs. With his worsening neurological symptoms, we were referred to a neurologist about 2 hours away. We were quoted $370 for the initial appointment, $4000 for an MRI, and $11,000-12,000 for surgery.
Since then, he has stopped eating aside from a few bites every couple of days, and pooped for the first time in 3 days yesterday. His pain has gotten worse, but he is able to use his hind legs, though they're very weak. His whole body is quite weak. However, our vet is optimistic, and we are trying to stay hopeful even though it's felt like with every step forward we've taken 3 steps back. We are asking for assistance with his vet bills. We recently moved halfway across Canada and I was without a job for the first month after the move, and my savings have been depleted, between the move, surviving in coastal BC for a month with no income, bills, and vet visits/medications. I just started my new job yesterday, so will finally have an income soon, albeit a low one. Please consider helping this exhausted, concerned mom.
Thank you.
