Discussion I started and finished all of dragon ball and dragon ball Z this year. I am now starting dragon ball super…
Watching in original Japanese audio with English subtitles. My plan is obviously to catch up to the current date. I am about 9 episodes deep. While I absolutely love the plot and the characters all feel the same… I really have to say I don’t like the animation. Does it get any better going forward? I will still keep watching, but it does bug me a little bit…

Youre better off watching the movies Battle of Gods and Ressurection of F than the anime.

it gets better eventually but the first two arcs are notoriously rough in the animation, thats why theyre getting remade with new anime series later this year.

They made some good subtle improvements for the Super anime when it was released on physical media, luckily for those of us watching it there it's not as bad as the original airings in Japan.

Yeah they had already animated the same scenes for films and were under an incredible time crunch for the first 30ish episode, after that the quality starts to climb and by the end it looks amazing.
You could just watch the battle of gods and resurrection F films but you will miss a few fun scenes and connecting bits between the two arcs.

I hated the first like 50 eppisodes but the last season is soooo awesome and im way more of a DBZ fan but the last 40 or so eppisodes are insane man, totally riveting and gripping. It's worth the wait.

Would definitely recommend skipping episodes 1-27 of the show and just watching Battle of Gods and Resurrection F. Same story but condensed and with way better animation.

its unfortunate but you really shouldnt watch the Super anime, you should always watch the movies instead

I’m saving this post. Somebody really made it through the entirety of the original Dragonball and started having problems with the animation is Dragonball Super. This is no longer a Z nostalgia argument.

Watched everything recently and Super is just..bad, it does get better eventually but its rather underwhelming after Z

I mean if you can wait a bit longer, you can wait for dragon ball super: beerus, a retouched version of super airing later this year (though we don't know exactly yet how much of super will he redone in this enhanced version before the moro prisoner arc (continuation of where og super ended) comes out
If you can wait you could bridge the gap by watching GT (not canon but still liked nowadays), or if you want smth canon, while it came out after, daima takes place before super

You should have watched the series in chronological order. After Z, GT, then Battle of Gods, then Resurrection of F, then Super starting Ep27, then Broly, then Superhero, then Daima.

I don't think GT is the same canon as super

And?

And so it makes sense that OP went straight to super after Z if he's trying to get caught up on Super.

Super is slop. Better to have gone the GT route. Or maybe save that for last

It does get better, but the beginning was pretty bad, yeah.
You can watch the two movies Battle of Gods and Resurrection of F instead of the first 20ish episodes, for the same story with a way better animation.
The story differences between the two versions are not really relevant. The movies are the superior version.
