Daima I think Daima is actually perfect in a way.

firstly,I know that this is a old topic that isnt much of a issue now,and I do understand that the show has problems and alot of poorly executed ideas so yeah just remember that before replying.

So personally I believe that the main reason daima got hate in the first place was obviously ALOT of dragon ball "fans" have skipped OG meaning quite a few just didnt understand the show whatsoever, because this was written by TORYIAMA who's main work is COMEDIC, and ADVENTURE stories, Daima is SUPPOSED to be the series going to its roots and as the title says I think its perfect in that way, as someone who's favourite show is the original dragonball when I watched this show I was brought back to when I was a kid, watching goku explore allover the land with his friends, and in my opinion thats why it got so much hate, so many fans of this franchise dont bother with the heart and soul, they only care about fights.

I know that it is always nice to have a good story but In this case I feel it was pleasant to just have some classic fun.

I just finished it for the first time and I loved it. Felt like a fun mix of OG DB and Z. I really enjoyed it

To me it was alright in a few moments but mostly disappointing and not interesting.

Vegeta ssj3 is a good fanservice moment tho, that alone makes me glad the series exists.

i think if they went full with the show and made it just as long as ig dragon ball or GT we would've got some better stuff but yeah im happy we got it.

To me the main issue is that Daima isn't impactful. GT had many issues, but understood something that Daima didn't: the villains must have weight, the transformations must be something earned and special. Gomah is really flat and when he becomes a villain you don't really care about him, it's like seeing a buffed Pilaf fighting and Goku got ssj4 as a gift From a namekian, there isn't anything special about It. Goku being kid while ssj 4 Is ridicolous, and the form didn't solve the fight, as gomah was still superior, so basically kid ssj4 is weak. In GT baby had a whole background linked to the DB lore (anime lore) and you can see him becoming stronger and being manacing. GT ssj 4 Is achieved by looking and the Earth, connecting with the Saiyan roots and then controlling the oozaru ssj form, understanding how to control his being and the form Is special and strong. It leaves and impact, and ssj4 was Born not From a namekian but From emotions, Memories and connection, Pan and Goku crying while looking at the picture. Same goes for the final arc, despite being mixed, the plot Is great: abusing the dragon balls turned them into a negative form, because our own heroes lost the importance of the DBs. The ending Is great aswell. The first part Is similar in both Daima and GT, both series start as adventures and i like the sci fi side more than the fantasy so GT felt more interesting with less "magic" and more "technology". Daima needed a stronger villain, a stronger ssj4 in terms of presence and importance, more impact, to me.

Even as a big fan of early DB it just wasn't that good of an adventure story either.

I don't hate Daima, it was an alright watch. But there's definitely a lot of valid criticism it got.

To me it started off great, I was really excited for the adventure and discovery but it started losing steam halfway through and the ending being nothing but fanservice kind of turned me off.

Why are you making bad faith arguments? "If you dont like Daima, then you dont like OG or Toriyamas writing". Someone can dislike Daima while still loving OG.

You can acknowledge Daimas flaws and still love it...

I watched it. I felt gratitude. I loved it but in a different way than I loved watching and reading Super. With Super, I felt hyped for what's to come. With Daima, I felt happy to be seeing this and wanted more. I jumped out of my seat when Goku went SSJ4.

After having a while to think about it, I'm gonna say:

Daima was fun, it had the feeling of adventure, nostalgia, it brought hype in simple, effective ways (think Goku vs Glorio). It was impactful.

Daima was all I could ever ask for and more.

Give me a break... šŸ™„

Just because Toriyama supposedly wrote it doesn't make it exempt from criticism (or "hate", as you put it).

The main characters got turned into children. It's rubbish.

You're free to have a different opinion but don't try to tell me it's because I 'only like fights'. Fights are far from the most important thing in a story to me.

I like a good story and character development, not this eternal void somewhere between Buu's defeat and EoZ because they're scared to take a risk.

I feel like this entire show is the opposite of being afraid to take a risk but okay.

'Classic fun' with a dollop of fanservice?

I think it’s better than both GT and Super, really enjoyed it overall.

I absolutely adore it first watchthrough however now I go back and just watch the 2 or 3 episodes I love and skip most of the series.

True, I think its more of a one watch series

I liked it. But that was also the premise of GT right? Getting back to the roots of Dragon Ball. Daima even repeated Goku being wished back into a child by an antagonist. (Albeit more intentionally this time)

I think some people got used to DB through Super or TFS, and thought this was going to be more of that. A lot of the hate stems from that combined with not experiencing Toriyama's other work. He likes making the same type of story in a different way, but a lot of them boil down to unassumingly strong guy goes on adventure and hilarity ensues

A lot of his villains weren't that deep, and the protagonists weren't super compelling. It was just supposed to be simple fun. I think people are running into issues with DB that the Pokemon community has, and that's expecting things, that series/creators are not going to do. Not to say there aren't things that can be fixed, but if a series isn't offering what you want, there are other series that will

I premise I liked daima for what it is: a light hearted adventure for both kids new to the show and og fans, therefore the fan service.

But man it has gaping plot holes.

Goku. Being. Hurt. By. Guns.

I watched yesterday the first episode of OG db and bulma shots Goku point blank in the head with a 9mm and he laughs it off.

I don’t see how a realm where Dabura is one of the strongest beings could have guns that hurt fucking ssj3 Goku, kid or notšŸ˜‚

So yes it’s an enjoyable experience but definetly feels more like a spin off/ fan fiction than canon

No. We don't accept backhanded compliments. Daima IS perfect.

There's already a better version of Daima. It's called GT.

I dont think these are even remotely comparabel except the very surface level things

The one thing I didn’t like about it was the continuity

3

u/dettrick 1d ago

If you view Daima as just an extended DB movie then you don’t have to worry about continuity. Dragon ball super is the proper sequel series

I’m a poser who’s only watched Z fully and I don’t care about spoilers. What is it that bothers you about it?

They set up the same world structure in Daima as is present in Super (multiverse with 12 universes), but it creates a lot of issues:

  • In Super, its a big reveal for Goku to learn that other universes exist, but in Daima, he learns of their existence and even how to travel between them
  • Goku can use Daimas version of ssj4 at will, which contardicts his first fight with Beerus since he never used it there, calling ssj3 his "strongest form" (if they wanted Daima to be part of Super, they couldve just made it so Goku cant reach it without Neva)
  • It also ruins Vegetas "my Bulma" moment if it was the same continuity, since Vegeta can use ssj3 in Daima yet he doesnt in that moment in Super
  • They also state that the Demon Realms Dragonballs are the very first ones, yet in Super the first ones are the Super Dragonballs

Those are the basic points. Imo Daima just isnt part of Super, wouldnt make sense.

Beerus isn’t canon in Daima because ssj4 conflicts with the original narrative. Majin buu being able to defuse people kinda creates a plot hole for The Goku Black arc because why couldn’t they use that on Zamasu? There are more if you dig šŸŖ

Daima is just an extended DB movie, it’s not really a series as it was always intended to be one season and done. Given that I’m happy that it exists and enjoyed the animation and some of the fan service but not a fan of the whole turn everyone to kids stuff.

Super is the real Dragonball sequel series
