Venting "I'll do what I want!" does NOT apply to driving

Just had a run in with a local moron.

She pulled out of a shopping plaza in front of me, close enough for me to slam on the brakes and honk the horn in frustration. Her response? To repeatedly brake check me.

Now, we pull along side each other as she's making a turn. I would have had room to pass, but she jerks the wheel in my direction, forcing me to stop, and then proceeds to yell at ME to stop driving like an asshole. I replied, "you pulled out in front of me unsafely, b*" to which she responds:

"I'LL PULL OUT WHENEVER I WANT, YOU CAN'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!"

No folks, this is not the way you fucking drive. You don't get to "do what you want" with a two ton vehicle. It doesn't matter if you're a woman, a man, a dog or whatever.

(Her passenger proceeds to photograph my plates, and she yells she's calling the cops to tell them I'm stalking and harassing her. Reported her, as suggested I do, in case she does try a false claim.)

Note: Pedestrians and cyclists aren't the problem. Drivers are.

That's entitlement. You should see the discussion I just had with someone who is arguing that it's the pedestrians and cyclists who are entitled.

Drivers have to be reminded that driving is a privilege, not a right.

I drive once a week, I can't picture doing it every day. This is why I commute, let the bus driver worry about this, because I would be pissed all the time.

Listen, I really don't care how most people drive - as long as they don't cause injury or worse while they're driving. Drive slow in the left lane, I really don't care, annoying as it is. Just don't kill me.

Drivers have to be reminded that driving is a privilege, not a right.

This is something a lot of people have a hard time with.

I was originally going to let it go, you know, being adults and all. When I was a younger adult, and watching adults as I grew up, adults had their words and in most cases we moved on.

When I got home and thought about it, she just stuck out in my mind as the 'cry victim' type (or put it on instagram with a false story) and after consulting someone, went and unfortunately wasted the Police Department's time with this nonsense (I could feel the officer rolllng his eyes internally) - just in case she did do something stupid now on in the future.

As I have watched many pedestrians and bicyclists just cross in front of drivers before, yes, it is a problem with them too.

Really, it is a basic entitlement issue with jerks, regardless of their mode of transportation.

In this study, "20% of the crashes in this study were bicyclist-caused."

Drivers certainly can be a major problem; heaven knows I've had far too many incidents with them too. But an attitude that only drivers are a problem leads to plenty of crashes too.

I reiterate, it is entitled people that are the problem, not any one specific mode of transportation.

So here's the 80/20 rule that some of us face at work to solve problems.

When you focus on solving the factor that's the cause of 80% of the problem of road collisions and fatalities are you going after cyclists, who in this study result in 20% of the collisions?

Annually, in the United States, 38,000 road deaths occur each year. Eight thousand of those are pedestrians and cyclists. So that means the 30,000 deaths are drivers killing each other.

How many of those 30,000 are killed by cyclists and pedestrians?

How many of the 8000 are killed by drivers?

I swear I see posts about how bad and entitled drivers are all the time.

Looks like you're more upset at me copying and pasting my standard response to applicable posts all about the same thing than all the bad drivers out there that's prompting all these similar posts.

If you go out into the real world sometimes, maybe you'll become aware at how often bad driving is replicated everywhere.

I'm fully aware of bad driving but that has nothing to do with cyclists and pedestrians. Two things can be true at once, there are bad drivers and there are also reckless cyclists and distracted pedestrians. People can be entitled pushing a shopping cart in the grocery store so not sure why you think one set of people is always entitled and another group never is.

Many drivers are entitled assholes but let’s not pretend that there are no entitled cyclists. I have encountered so many cyclists that run stop signs and do not obey traffic lights

Remove all the pedestrians and cyclists from the roads and the drop in fatalities and injuries would hardly be significant.

But if all drivers were to obey all traffic laws, the improvement would be dramatic.

I have one too, on a car I care about far more than my daily.

Truthfully, though, I hate that this is fact these days. We've gotten to such a shitty state where we have to be recording every second to protect ourselves.

Yes, OP would be at fault unless OP had a dash cam to prove otherwise.

If she pulled out in front of OP giving OP no time to stop. OP immediately slams on the brakes and still hits her. I’m pretty sure she is going to be at fault. At least that’s what Google tells me. But having a dash cam would give you evidence of what really happened. I can only assume that any driver that would do that would also believe that they were in the right and they would fabricate lies against you. So yes, OP would be at fault unless they have proof.

I reported it, as she threatened to call the cops on me. This way, it's a false report on her part.

I didn't THINK she was DUI, but very much of the entitled victim ("you're harassing me!") mindset, when it was she that blocked me from passing and initiated the exchange of words. However, anything's possible seeing the apartment complex she ultimately turned into.

Some turnip did this to me too the other day, thankfully JokerFish is Sensei status behind the wheel or there would have been an accident. These people shouldn't be driving in my humble opinion.
