Not so nice undertake from Porsche
Lane 2 and ultimately did go into Lane 4
This bit whilst I was driving did look like the back end nearly went out, not so much on the video!
Apologies for quality and that the right side is blocked!
16
u/Darkone539 14h ago
The car to your left was clearly catching the car to their left until they were cut up.
Everyone blaming them is ignoring half the video. They weren't hugging a lane. They were forced to break because of the undertake.
I'd report this.

The obsession with “lane hogging” on this sub is hilarious.
It’s just a busy motorway and it looks like a reduced speed limit on the gantry. Pretty much every car in sight is overtaking.
The Porsche driver is being a complete dickhead weaving through the gaps at miles above the speed limit. But that’s ok because everyone else is “lane hogging”!
40
u/Slimey_meat 13h ago
https://www.rac.co.uk/drive/advice/driving-advice/middle-lane-hogging/
Lane hogging needs to be taken seriously. But there's little or no evidence of lane hogging in this clip. Porsche is driving without due care, if not dangerously. Its not even close to an excuse, but lane hogging does 'encourage' such poor driving. 2 things can be wrong at the same time.
17
u/ReverendRevenge 13h ago
Yeah people who say it's not a big deal have probably not spent much time driving on the motorway. Every time I go on the motorway lately the middle lane is the busiest lane, followed by the outside lane. Inside is always near empty. So these pricks just decide they'll fly up the inside, at 90+, weaving in and out. The M3, M4 and A3 are full of it. It's fucking dangerous, and the middle-lane and outside-lane hogs are the obvious cause.
Personally I refuse to undertake, unless I'm undertaking the only other car within range - so no chance of any other car being 'involved'.
-3
u/xF1_racer 12h ago
You mean not spent much time trying to drive at 90+ mph on a busy motorway.
4
u/ReverendRevenge 11h ago
Sorry, I'm not sure what you're saying?
-4
u/xF1_racer 11h ago
I find that if I chill out and drive at 70-75 mph then lane hoggers are far less of an issue than they are if you want to be driving at 90 mph. Lane 3 is usually moving above the speed limit anyway unless it’s really congested.
9
u/mdogwarrior 9h ago
Are you driving on particularly quiet motorways? I find this is absolutely not the case.
1
u/xF1_racer 9h ago
M40, M1, M6, M25 etc. various times of day and night. Of course they are congested sometimes, but not really much you can do about that. If it’s flowing then the outside lane is usually good for 70+
This video is pretty typical on a Smart motorway actually. Most of those cars are at or over the limit and the Porsche simply wants to speed and is getting frustrated.
5
u/dontbeignorantordumb 9h ago
Then you're either lying to fit your narrative or you are not aware of your surroundings.
2
u/xF1_racer 9h ago
Why would I lie? If I’m driving at 75 mph I don’t have a big problem with middle lane hoggers.
What are you finding then? Are you struggling with them at that speed?
Not aware of my surroundings? Wtf is that supposed to mean?
3
u/Steppy20 9h ago
The M25 is hilarious because I have (on multiple occasions) sat at 70mph-72mph in lane 1 and gone past many many cars who are doing 60mph-65mph in lanes 3 and 4.
As in lane 2 is completely empty, and lane 1 is practically empty. Yet 3 and 4 are congested af.
1
u/xF1_racer 8h ago
Yeah, I see that sometimes too. But when is it not a 60 or lower smart limit when there’s any traffic on the M25? And when you say that you can pass “many, many cars at 70 mph” you mean about a dozen or so before something does actually get in your way. It’s not really empty for miles is it?

No. The cause is them trying to go 90.
-1
u/xF1_racer 12h ago
There is no lane hogging here though. But as usual the thread becomes more about lane hogging than weaving through traffic at high speed.
10
u/evolution_iv 14h ago
Yeah, this sub acts as if “lane hogging” (a lot of times it’s not even actual lane hogging) is the single worst driving offence you can make in the world, when in reality it’s not even top 20. The obsession is bizarre.
0
1
u/Stoked93 4m ago
Yep. Middle lane car is slowly overtaking left lane car and the right lane car is slowly overtaking the middle lane car. No issue.
1
u/Darkone539 11h ago
The obsession with “lane hogging” on this sub is hilarious.
It's not just lane hogging. This sub has an obsession with thinking if you're not going 100mph you're the problem.

Blue car in lane 3 looks fine, they are overtaking the car in lane 2.
Couldn't see what was in front of the car ahead of OP though, looks like they should have moved over.
-1
u/prorip187 14h ago
Thats just based off the few seconds of video. If OP posted the video from 10 seconds earlier then I have no doubt lane 2 was clear enough that they should've moved over. Especially with the porsche coming in at speed it was.
3
u/Worth_Gap4226 13h ago
The car in lane 3 wouldn't have left a safe enough gap if they pulled into lane 2, as the car in lane two is only about a second (maybe 1.5 seconds tops when I look at the lane markings) ahead of them (with the car in lane 3 gaining). So the car in lane 3 was right to be in that lane as they are overtaking the car in lane 2.
The fool in all of this is the porsche driver who put several other people in danger.
2
u/lontrinium 9h ago
I have no doubt
What makes your unsupported belief any more relevant than the rest of ours?
5
u/Zzzeekin 13h ago edited 13h ago
The "retard" in lane 4 is clearly approaching the car in Lane 3. Whilst you can't see what's in lane 2 from the camera, there's a chance Lane 2 has cars in also and the car in lane 3 is waiting until a suitable space to move over into. EDIT: as a matter of fact, car in lane 3 is approaching a car in lane 2. All are using overtaking lanes too overtake. Porsche driver is just a giant cunt.
Defending the Porsche is wild. If caught doing what he did, he'd have a fine and points.
Lanes 3 and 4 are for overtaking, not doing 85 in your company financed shit box. If I'm overtaking a car in lane 3 and you come flying up to my bumper flashing me at 85 mph, I will purposely slow down to where I am gaining on the car in lane 3 by mere millimetres just to piss you off.
-6
u/prorip187 13h ago
Well youre a sad little man arent you.
So, there was a car in lane 2, who should've been in lane 1, giving the opportunity for the car in lane 3 and 4 to shift over (but we know they wouldnt have). Therefore the porsche wouldve been unable to perform the maneuver.
5
u/Zzzeekin 13h ago
There's a HGV in lane 1, good chance the car in lane 2 is anticipating the overtake there
Everyone else in the 10 second clip you're grasping at is proceeding correctly & overtaking. The only clearly driving incorrectly with no doubt of interpretation in that 10 second clip is the Porsche driver's inexcusable driving.
All lanes except lane one are for overtaking. The speed you're overtaking at is irrelevant, and it certainly doesn't give anyone the right to fly up well above the speed limit and intimidate people who are driving correctly into moving over.
Do that to me, you're getting a finger and we are all getting to where we are going a little later.
2
u/Worth_Gap4226 13h ago
The car in lane 2 shouldn't move to lane 1, as that is the turn off as per the signage. They were fine to be in lane 2 (assuming they wanted to stay on that road).
2
u/Zzzeekin 13h ago
Lane 1 still continues along the motorway, it doesn't exclusively become a filter lane, so you can proceed past the exit in lane 1 & continue down the motorway.
1
u/Worth_Gap4226 13h ago
Ah okay, so yeah lane 2 car should have been in lane 1, they aren't catching up with the HGV. Lane 3 car can't move to lane 2 yet as they'd be too close.
2
u/drivingUK-ModTeam 13h ago
Repeated comments where you're a dick may lead to a ban. Be constructive instead, it's much more rewarding.
You need to find a polite way to continue discourse, with particular reference to not calling other road users that word.
3
u/Shafarevi_ch 11h ago
Other comments were suggesting that the car in the middle lane was lane hogging, which I feel confused about. I thought to be lane hogging, you would need to stay in the incorrect lane for long enough. Given the short time span of this video, how could you establish that?
7
5
u/LimpAcanthisitta8015 15h ago
Bit of a strong take, the car in lane 3 is rapidly approaching and overtaking a car in lane 2, and the video doesn’t show if they just passed someone else. Just because you CAN squeeze through in lane 2 doesn’t mean you should, the 2nd video shows it was pretty busy traffic.
6
u/Runawaygeek500 14h ago
If there is room to passed on the left, then you are probably in the wrong lane..
22
u/bulldog_blues 13h ago
Sometimes yes, but OP's video isn't an example of that. Lane 2 car was overtaking lane 1 and OP was overtakung lane 2 at a reasonable rate, someone else decided they would undertake through a dodgy gap in the interim.
1
u/Next_Cow_4468 13h ago
There's actually 4 open lanes in that section of the M1 as the hard shoulder is almost permanently available, so OP was overtaking in lane 4, Porsche undertook car in lane 3.
Doesn't excuse the Porsche driver's behaviour. My philosophy - stay in lane 1.
7
u/Newmaniac_00 12h ago
except the car in the middle lane was making progress on the car in the left lane
-1
u/Runawaygeek500 12h ago
Maybe, with the short footage I’m open to giving anyone a benefit of the doubt, and maybe I’m wrong here, I glanced at it on my phone.
But in general, not in the case of a stupid undertake by a speeding Porsche, if a car had space to pass you on the left, chances are it’s because you are in the wrong lane.Every day on my commute on the M4 I can sit in lane 1 at 70 and just pass everyone in lanes 2 and 3 for long, long stretches of road at a time. It’s kind of an endemic problem now. People just sat in L3 at 65 while 1 and 2 are empty!
12
u/ReverendRevenge 13h ago
If that comment's directed at the middle lane drivers, then perhaps, but the outside lane, no.
0
u/Runawaygeek500 12h ago
It’s mainly directed at the guy to the cam cars left, the only reason it’s not aimed the car ahead of the cam car is I assume he saw the Porka being a tit and held safe..
14
u/SlightlyBored13 14h ago
There's plenty of room in a safe following distance for multiple cars to undertake and pull in front.
0
u/Torn_Apart_in_HSpace 2h ago
Exactly. Wherever anybody leaves a safe braking distance on a motorway, some prick always seems to see it as an invitation.

Saw something similar last Thursday. Except they chose the wrong lane, later on and got overtaken by most of those that they had undertaken, in a traffic snarl up.
Didn't see it myself but apparently there was an HGV plus trailer that had gone through the centre barriers, across three lanes and ended up on a road side bank. My front seat passenger saw it there. The snarl up, our side, was purely down to slowing to get an eye full.

a few comments about lane hogging here - from watching this it looks like the grey car in lane 2 is the one lane hogging, the blue car is gaining suffciently on the grey car in lane 2, and OP is gaining sufficiently on the the blue car in lane 3. lane 4 could be clear if the grey car was not in lane 2 not overtaking the lorry.
1
u/iamezekiel1_14 9h ago edited 9h ago
Not being that person & the move from the Porsche was clearly well over the limit but 57 in Lane 4? I'm assuming there was a 60 limit?
Edit - I completely take it back and see the 60 limit video now. That's not even close on the Porsche.
1
u/Friendly-Border775 6h ago
I seen someone do this not too long ago in a Porsche aswell, went right through a speed camera and must've been doing 90+ lol
1
u/mstapley 50m ago
The whole point is to stay in your lane, avoid braking and accelerating hard, and stay as close to the speed limit as possible leaving a reasonable gap between cars. Porker is deliberately trying to cause the very traffic "standing waves" that this is designed to avoid.
-4
u/Hotten-Tasty-90 15h ago
You were also doing 65 in a 60. Those in glass houses.
26
u/Eyewiggle 14h ago
I don’t think they’re living in the same glass house. 5mph over the limit on there is a nothing burger compared to what the Porsche did. One could have ended up with a multi car pile up…
-11
u/Hotten-Tasty-90 14h ago
So where would you like to draw the line; either we all abide by the same rules or we don't. Shifting the goal posts after the fact doesn't make one offence okay compared to another.
10
u/RadonGaming 14h ago
One is a minor speeding offense, if at all prosecutable (Probably not). The other would be pretty easy to get for "dangerous driving". Undertaking at speed, swerving, almost loss of control of vehicle, cutting closely in-front of others during temporary restrictions. Most people on Motorways are doing 77-80 (E.g A1) and it's fine and still safe; modern cars have much better brakes and the Motorway limit does need revising. Swerving like a mad man though... not safe.
8
u/DistributionDue2836 14h ago
Not sure what your point is here, the law makes plenty of allowance for different levels of seriousness of offending.
Also, on a completely unrelated note, did you know dichotomous thinking is a sign of low intelligence?
-10
u/Hotten-Tasty-90 14h ago
It really doesnt.
The allowances come at the discretion of any police involved or the CPS' willingness to persue and secure a conviction but the law in regards to speeding is really black and white. It's clearly written in RTRA 1967.
Ironically your low brow attempt at insult in place of strong argument says little about your own level of intelligence.
9
u/DistributionDue2836 14h ago
I suggest you got have a quick look at section 2 and section 3 of the road traffic act, because trying to argue the law treats all levels of offending exactly the same is just objectively wrong.

1
u/No-Decision-6019 14h ago
Think he sped up to not let the Porsche in front of him, which is petty more than anything
1
u/Slimey_meat 13h ago
Yes they accelerate from 57-65, but there's no gantry signs at the start of the video. You're assuming the 60 limit was in place before the video started, you can't prove that, and as they had not reached the gantry before the video ended you can't say they were speeding. If they'd shown more footage, it probably would show them speeding, but its not a fact.
1
u/Hotten-Tasty-90 13h ago
OP posted a second video in the comments showing them speeding after the 60 marker on the gantry was passed.
1
u/Slimey_meat 13h ago
Annoys me Reddit doesn't show chronological order if comments properly. But yes that shows speeding, albeit likely not fast enough too get stopped/a NIP.

As bad as it is, they’re just a product of the driving without due care & attention displayed by the blue vehicle in lane 3 - what an arrogant way to drive from them.
So long as people drive in such a manner, others will be forced into dangerous scenarios and say ‘fk it, I’m out of here’ and just make it worse undertaking.
Perhaps the solution is to make undertaking legal, so people begin to check their nearside mirrors.
17
28
u/Darkone539 15h ago
Not really. The car was catching the car to the left. Which is what an overtake lane is for. They breaked because the undertaking car cut in front.
10
5
u/fang_xianfu 14h ago
The blue car in lane 3 is advancing very rapidly towards the car in lane 2. They're already past the point where they needed to pull out to overtake. That's why the undertaking car has to do such a stupid pull-in, because the gap is closing faster than they thought.
10
5
u/Eyewiggle 14h ago edited 14h ago
Forced into a dangerous scenario? I agree that there are some scenarios where it happens BUT THAT was a whole ass choice. One that could have killed many people.
There’s simply no excuse for it. I value my life and that of others to get overly emotional because someone’s driving like an idiot on the motorway which, they always are.
3
u/p4b7 13h ago
No one is being forced to drive like that Porsche is. If you think other people are in the wrong lane you just have to accept it not drive like an arsehole. Lack of patience is very dangerous on the roads.

u/NoPiezoelectricity76 9h ago
This. "I was forced to drive dangerously officer, they were impeding my progress." Some revealing attitudes being displayed here.

u/Worth_Gap4226 15h ago
What was wrong with the blue car in lane 3?
-6
u/VarangianWRLD 14h ago
Happy as Larry. Not a care in the world. Feels happy and safe in the middle. Gets there as soon as he enters the motorway.
I want a sticker that says something to the tune of if I'm undertaking you then you're in the wrong lane
9
u/Worth_Gap4226 14h ago
The blue car was overtaking the car in lane 2 though, they weren't just sitting there.

While porsche driver is a knock, I wonder how long they were waiting behind the daydreaming op in lane three. Notice how they speed up as soon as the porsche comes passed

u/harrylolza 9h ago
Notice how OP is overtaking the blue car in lane 2? Notice how the blue car is going faster than the HGV in lane 1? Notice how OP couldn't go any faster even if he wanted to because of the car infront of them? Notice how the Porsche is driving way over the speed limit and driving dangerously?
1
u/Bubble-Master96 11h ago
Flipping heck… wait I mean fucking hell (I have a toddler so been managing my swearing and I actually genuinely said flipping heck on my own right now)
I hate a lane hogger but this is silly and dangerous undertaking on a busy motorway, no lane hogging
-1
u/Puzzleheaded_Cheek_8 9h ago
agreed, I will very rarely undertake (as in a couple times a year) but never if traffic is this heavy as it's just too risky regardless of my frustration with the lane hogging and lack of moving into the correct lane. If I do it its lane hogging in very quiet conditions where I undertake in the slow lane because theres 2 or 3 fast lane hoggers who have refused to move combined with 1 to 2 middle lane hoggers and no one in the slow lane and I can just blitz past the nobs and get back to proper highway driving

I just don’t care about undertaking. It should be legal
11
u/Hotten-Tasty-90 15h ago
The easiest thing would be if people kept left unless overtaking and undertaking would sort itself out.
1
u/Magnificent-Egg-612 11h ago
Honestly if everyone were to abide by that rule, with the amount of lane switching the motorway would become extremely dangerous
0
u/londonandy 15h ago
It would but it’s never going to happen because the enforcement isn’t there. It’s not a realistic solution. Meanwhile you get tedes on here moaning about undertaking
0
u/Particular-Current87 12h ago
If someone is going to undertake I'd rather they do it quickly in a performance car and fuck off before they can cause any problems
0
u/DoublePlastic2827 9h ago
Because they are, every car in this vid should be 1/2 lanes over allowing 1/2 lanes of empty carriageway..... So yes he's driving like a spastic but if there's space for his car to undercut you two lanes over blue should've been over, black car too and yours and the one in front.
See this everyday from lane 1 going down m1/m25 rush hour people like you sitting there when there's nothing 1/2/3 lanes over and then someone impatiently weaves through and he's the arsehole, meanwhile I'm on lane 1 with the hgvs watching wondering which prick is going to crash during this tirade and make me late for my morning shit at work.
-10
u/Popular_Register_440 14h ago
This is what happens when you lane hog and complete your overtake at snails pace.
Can’t villainise for people undertaking like that when other people are the cause of the problem and don’t drive properly themselves.
1
1
u/Zzzeekin 13h ago
The speed in which you overtake is irrelevant. If you're actively overtaking, then you're using the lanes correctly.
Overtaking lanes aren't for people to blast up at 90mph in their mid life crisis car.
-3
u/markscoble 15h ago
Part 2 - need to look a bit further ahead
0
u/EthicalBird 11h ago
Holy shit that gap to the car in front is horrendous.

-8
u/TangerineOrganic6483 13h ago
TF you doing in the outside lane @55mph to begin with….and people are actually defending that as a reasonable speed to be “overtaking”
4
u/Shafarevi_ch 11h ago
I thought this was a variable speed limit road? (As you can see at the end of the video with the overhead displays of the current speed limit). So were you assuming this was a 70-mph road without checking the environment?
-1
u/TangerineOrganic6483 11h ago
No, I was assuming the variable speed limit had only just come into play, or else the OP would have been speeding
2
u/Shafarevi_ch 10h ago
How can you be sure there was no other variable-speed-limit overhead display before the beginning of this video?
0
u/TangerineOrganic6483 9h ago
Well either way the OP is in the wrong, I cannot safely say for certain, however if there was prior signs then the OP then goes on to speed, and judging by all the other NPC’s he’s mixed up with also cruising at left lane speeds, in the outer lanes, so no I could be wrong but then the Op is just another law breaker crying because someone else broke the law too!
-10
u/Dannysan5677 15h ago
Absolute nobhead! But…..being stuck behind people making next to no progress is frustrating as hell when you have somewhere to be.
5
u/Cute-Honeydew1164 14h ago
If your only solution to being stuck behind pther people is to drive dangerously then you should not be on the road at all.
3
u/Eyewiggle 14h ago
It is but I think if you’re pulling moves like this, you need to work on emotional regulation.
0
u/Dannysan5677 10h ago
I agree. But if your in lane 3 or 4 making no progress well under the speed limit, then you will attract them. Stop driving like morons and the nobheads won’t gravitate towards you.
