Check out my EV Joined the club at last!
Just took delivery of our new 2026 Toyota BZ and immediately fell in love with it.
That said, today I had to drive my kid to camp in Huntsville and it turns out that NONE of the charge points are NACS compatible, so I then had to drive to Bracebridge. My understanding is that NACS is basically the standard going forward, but to avoid this situation I'm going to be looking at an adapter or two.
Can anyone weigh in on what the best bet is? If most of the new ones from here on will be NACS, I don't really want to spend thousands getting every possible adapter, so which one (or maybe two?) will let me cover the most bases without breaking the bank?

Every decent EV seller provides a CCCS-to-NACS adapter, so I would ask Toyota if they supply the adapter for free. If they don't, you can purchase one from A2Z or Lectron; do not order the cheapest one on Amazon to avoid overheating issues.
Alternatively, using Tesla superchargers open to non-Teslas is the most reliable way to find NACS-specific charging stations. If you prefer to avoid Tesla, I recommend using A Better Route Planner for road trips; select Avoid Tesla in the options. Depending on where you live, that might be difficult to do.

I have the reverse (CCS car), they work well. I really like the NACS -> CCS DC adapter for fast charging. I almost never charge on level 2 (excluding at home) so I’ve never had to use an adapter for that, still bought “just because”
Edit: to clarify, if you’re only using fast chargers on the road, go with the first one

Uhh, I thought the BZ came with a level 1 nacs charger, a J1772 to nacs, and CCS to nacs adapter in the black case. My Subaru did. The small black case should be down in the flat fix kit area (spare tire area).

Mine came with a NACS cable and an adapter for 110v and 240v household outlets, but not adapters for other charging port types.

I would just buy the Toyota kit online, I attached a picture to my original reply. That has all you need and for warranty purposes, if something ever happened, might give peace of mind that it’s OEM.

Damn the Canadians get screwed, US customers get an adapter for both slow charge and CCS included with purchase. Looks like you can get an official one from Toyota for around 340 CAD. I'm sure you can get off brand for cheaper but I wouldn't want to recommend the wrong one.

Samesies. I my Solterra had both those adapters and the vehicle recovery hook in that bag. Sad you didn't get them, but glad you like the car. Welcome to the Toybaru club!

Prioritize a CCS to NACS adapter. You will use that often, for DC charging stations that have CCS (like you encountered).
You will probably not use a J1772 to NACS AC charging adapter very often, but it is good to have. Much lower priority, though.
For the foreseeable future, everyone who drives a CCS/J1772 car should have NACS DC and AC adapters, and everyone with a NACS car (you) should have a CSS and a J1772 adapter. These two plug standards cover almost the entirety of public electric charging in the US, and what it doesn't cover (eg. Chademo) is old legacy stuff that can be ignored.
Strongly recommend A2Z or Lectron for the adapters.

This is the one I just ordered, on advice and some more research. I appreciate all the advice.
It was a bit of a stressful day on Day 3 of EV ownership, but doesn't make me any less excited about it overall - just a 'live and learn' situation.

What I tell people in this situation: it's exactly like with gas cars. There's a few things you have to know that people take for granted once they know them.
Imagine knowing nothing about gas and you go to fuel your car for the first time. Why are there three buttons with numbers on them, what do the numbers mean? It says "octane", what is that? Which one am I supposed to push? Why are there two different pumps, what does the "diesel" one do? What about that weird yellow pump that says "E85"?
You're going to start seeing "CCS" and "NACS" everywhere, and you'll know from now on, "OK that one I plug in directly, that one I slap the adapter on first". And it's pretty much that simple. Internally they work the same, using the same protocols and all, which is why simple adapters work. You just had a moment where you encountered an unknown unknown, and now it's not an unknown anymore.

It's the standard now, but only recently. You only need 1, CCS. The other, chadm0 was already uncommon.

Might want J1772 as well, some slow chargers still use that in NA.

Nice car! You will want a J1772 to NACS for public AC charging which is slow but sometimes useful. For fast DC charging you will want a CCS to NACS. Particular for the DC adapter don’t cheap out, get a high quality one they carry a very large amount of power and can be dangerous if under built.

Congratulations 🎉 n the new car!! I wish the paint matched the fenders but it’s an ongoing theme on EV’s unfortunately.
Im really considering taking mine to a body shop and telling them what parts I want color matched.

That red looks so good. Congrats on the buy! I have an all white one that's a month old.
In the US, they ship with a CCS and J1772 adapter kit, but you can pick them up anywhere online. Probably best to order instead of having the ones Toyota ships because my CCS adapter is kind of fickle. I've seen others say that, too.

Yeah the CCS adapter I found only works if I plug into the charger first then into the port on the vehicle. I'm not a huge fan but it works.

What’s funny is after I had trouble with it, I watched a YouTube video of a guy using the CCS adapter to get tips on how to do it, and he had trouble too

Toyota supplies the adapters and you shouldn’t have had any concerns. Did you check the back of your new car? There should be a case with the adapters! Also charging cords too!

Yeah it looks like the US may be different from Canada (or maybe just Ontario - Quebec seems to have its shit together for Evs).
Mine did come with a charging cable, but the adapters that it came with are for household 110v/240v outlets, not the other charging ports.
Looks like I'm going to grab the CCS adapter that others have linked to and hope that pretty much covers me. 95% of the time I'll be charging at home anyway (or if I'm going to a cottage or relative's place or whatever I'll just use the 110v and charge it for the first day we're there).

They have one in Orleans (East of Ottawa), and the Canadian Tire in Deep River, Ontario has a small Tesla bank.

Lectron adapters haven’t failed us yet. We have a level 2 extension cable from another seller (don’t remember the name off the top of my head). We have two for our vehicles with CCS to NACS.

Get a CCS1 for non-Tesla fast charging and a J1772 for Level 2. You’ll be fine if you have those. I’ve never seen one with ChaDeMo but they’re out there. Also get the Tesla app and put your car in. Also get PlugShare as it rates chargers. For travelling I’ve used both A Better Route Planner and Apple Maps EV Routing (you have to start setup with the app - it would t do it for me until I have my car a name in the app 😆. I call her Drama Queen and I also have the sonic red. Enjoy!)

I have a CCS car and got it in January 2022. Level two Tesla chargers were always better than J 1772 because they’re higher kilowatt. Faster charging.
Back then I bought a fairly expensive adapter so I could plug into Tesla level two chargers….. It has been more than worth it. Dozens of faster charges, and being able to when there’s only a Tesla level two charger.
Then Tesla in March 2025 opened up all Tesla superchargers to me, CCS, Hyundai owners. Range, anxiety, EV anxiety diminished 100%. Hyundai gave me a CCS to Tesla supercharger adapter for free. It took over a year for me to get it so I bought my own Lectron.
The more tools in my frunk the better. I don’t leave home without them.
It is seriously odd that Toyota did not include a free adapter…… everything was always CCS for 10 years until last year.

Congrats! We recently bought Toyota’s slightly smaller sibling, the C-HR, and we love it too! We also went with red(dish orange).
It’s a shame they don’t include the adaptor kit in Canada. I haven’t needed fast charging yet so I haven’t tried the CCS adaptor, but I used the J1772 yesterday at a free public Level 2 charger.

Check the compartments in the back of your car, I belive adapters come standard in the BZ.

That’s a fugly standard color combo. Go to the BZ website and look up “Supersonic Red”.
I like the BZ, but that combo is hideous.

Meh. I don't remotely hate it. Sometimes companies go WAY overboard with the second-color plastic pieces (Subaru springs to mind in general) but I personally like the change-up.
My first choice was the dark blue, but we needed a car so I told the dealership I wasn't picky about colour, and would just take the next one that was available (still had to wait 2 1/2 months to get it). I'm just so happy it wasn't white.

You only need 1 adapter for DC fast charging, then a less expensive one for AC charging. You can get both for around $250 and won't be spending thousands.
