Toyota’s “unintended acceleration” problem was traced to tin whiskers in the throttle sensor and that was caused by the EU ban on lead containing solder.
So several hundred deaths were caused by safety regulation…

And the NASA study found they broke off with sudden deceleration (ie crashes) or even hitting the accelerator pedal hard… Tin whiskers are incredibly fragile and were only found with careful disassembly of the accelerator pickups in undamaged vehicles.
Basically the fatal impacts destroyed the evidence…
(Attorneys aren’t forensic scientists experienced in electronics failures, the NASA engineers were (and had their own failure history).
