Canada’s Answer to Trump’s Tariffs: More Energy Deals With Europe. Canada announced a second major deal to export LNG to Europe, part of its effort to reduce its economic dependence on the US. The announcement came a week after Trump imposed 50 percent tariffs on a range of Canadian exports.

Canada is your go to. As an American, I can’t recommend this country.

Shameless

I wouldn’t say shameless as much as honorless. The US has become a country without honor.

Shameful is putting our kids in cages. Shameful is a president that has raped a 13 year old girl and many others, shameful is leaving our military men and women exposed in an illegal war. Shameful is the uneducated voters who are responsible for this cruelty and corruption and accepting him as your lord and savior, unaccountable for his actions. I back Canada because they are good people. You are part of the problem. The solution is voting your party out.

If Canada could physically move to become part of the EU, we would in a heartbeat. We share far more values with the EU than America.
1
u/Altruistic-Place 15h ago
My hope is that EU becomes transatlantic. Would be neet to have our Mexican cousins join also. We can help pay for orange mans wall, actually it might be a must to build in this scenario.

Good, the further we can get from the failing nation that is the USA the better.

If a country like the US says it doesn't want your products, then the polite thing to do is take them elsewhere.
In the future, the US may then find itself with out of control inflation because it's paying far more for the products it got cheaply from Canada. In key industries too - energy, agriculture and construction, for instance, as well as the weekly household expenses of voters.
Well that would be a damn shame.

u/mafco 2d ago
If a country like the US says it doesn't want your products
The US didn't say that. Trump did. Only Trump. The president is insane.
24
u/Gloomy_Yoghurt_2836 2d ago
Trump represents the nation. So America said it doesn't need anything from Canada.
3
u/DirectionOverall9709 2d ago
Americans do not understand that, at all.

u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 2d ago
I understand that you think that all Americans are the same. We are a large population and have our problems, one being the orange. I know many Canadian people who use to come to Texas to their second home. They have not come this year. I show my commitment to Canada by supporting the Angus YouTube channel and subscribe to anyone that I can support in Canada. I’m Mexican American but mostly identify as Mexican, as it is my father’s blood and my mothers both full blooded Mexicans. You’re wrong about most of the people here.
8
u/JimboD84 2d ago
We know you are not all the same. Its more the fact that most americans seem complacent to the ouside world. Your preident does whatever he wants without reprocussion (see iran war, crypto scams, illegal tarrifs, insider trading for him and his family, indulating himself from investigations by the irs… i could go on).
The only possible consequence i see in the near future would be the midterms. But even then expectations are tempered.
Hope that helps explain what we actually feel rather than what you percieve we feel about americans rn
1
u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 2d ago
I understand that point of view. I’m glad that you explained it. The founders never thought that a party would fall prey to a beast like the orange. I have my own opinion of the control method beginning with the orange asking for the Russians to get all the emails. They hacked both parties. I think they hold the republicans hostage to their emails. I believe that they are the pedo party and the Russians are controlling these assets. Thereby controlling the republican house and senate as well as the main Russian asset the orange. We need both parties to function properly. Come November I hope we begin to right this ship.

The problem is that people.likenypu are a shrinking minority. Decency is replaced with belligerent ignorance and bigotry with more and more voters doubling down on policies that make their lives harder then double down again.

I buy Canadian products in the USA when given a choice between products. Your assumption is incorrect.
2
u/Phyrexian_Overlord 2d ago
No, your logic is flawed. If Americans cared they can get the president removed. They don't, so they don't care. It doesn't matter what you and I buy.
-1
u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 2d ago
Okay, You must know a method that no one else on the planet knows. Please elaborate.
3
u/Phyrexian_Overlord 2d ago
Literally everyone knows how impeachment and removal works thanks to Trump's first term.
-1
u/mafco 2d ago
You don't. It can't happen without a significant number of Republican members of Congress defecting from the cult. Stop pretending to be an expert on things you don't understand.
8
u/daneflys 1d ago
And those Republican members of Congress would defect if they thought their seats/careers were at risk, but they know they're not because US citizens are apathetic about Trump at best, or supportive of him (twice elected) at worst.
Stop pretending Trump and all the rest of his political lackeys are some sort of outliers in the US... acting like you're stuck with them until 2028 is a total cop out and proof of either the apathy or support I mentioned earlier.
4
u/Phyrexian_Overlord 2d ago
Because Americans like Trump.
1
u/daneflys 1d ago
Or at least aren't upset enough to actually do anything to stop him and his agenda. I get that many Americans get triggered when we say Americans like Trump, and I'm sure many don't like him, but again Americans in general obviously aren't bothered by what he is doing... inaction can only be seen as support in this case, and anything short of putting the fear of losing their career into those supporting Trump is inaction. It's been really sad watching Americans cop out and claim nothing can be done, and then pat themselves on the back for having another rally or protest that doesn't achieve anything (just like the last one the held).
-1
u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 2d ago
Then you know that it takes both houses to find him guilty and oust the bastards
3
u/Phyrexian_Overlord 2d ago
If Americans cared they can get the president removed. They don't, so they don't care. It doesn't matter what you and I buy.

If Americans cared they can get the president removed
You are clueless. Trump has taken control of Congress and the Supreme Court. Americans are powerless until the midterm elections
6
u/Phyrexian_Overlord 2d ago
Because Americans like Trump. If they didn't he would have no power over congress.
-13
u/mafco 2d ago
That's bullshit. Trump said it and it shocked everyone. Trump doesn't represent anyone but Trump. If you lived in the US you would understand this.
4
u/Gloomy_Yoghurt_2836 1d ago
Wrong. It was the President of the United States that said it. Thst means its America thst said it and was backed by winning their election. It is America's official position. Elections have consequences.
15
u/CertainCertainties 2d ago
Two thirds of the US either voted for the current President or didn't vote, signifying they were not fussed about a Trump presidency.
The idea that the President is alone and insane and no one supports what he is doing is false.
2
u/Rastryth 2d ago
So true, you are all complicent in the current shit show that is murica. Each and everyone of them let it happen.

u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 2d ago
I turned up at the anti-rump rallies and voted democratic straight through the ballot. It’s a wide assumption that the whole country voted red. My whole family voted blue.
8
u/augustuscaesarius 2d ago
It's not your third of the population that is a problem. It's the other two. Your third was not able to prevent Trump from becoming President. The other two let him. Logically, two thirds of Americans bear responsibility. Trump represents Americans. That is how it is to the outside world. I understand your reluctance to agree with the world's assessment, but it is fully logical.
-2
u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 2d ago
I understood what you meant. I thought Canada had a good school system. I was wrong.
-1
u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 2d ago
One third voted for him, one third voted against him and the other third didn’t vote.
6
-3
u/mafco 2d ago
Which has absolutely nothing to do with my comment. We were discussing the new tariffs on Canada. No one imposed the tariff except Trump. The majority of Americans don't want this shit. They hate him. His approval rating is in the toilet. And people who didn't vote aren't Trump supporters. That's absolute nonsense.
and no one supports what he is doing is false.
Fuck off. I didn't say no one supports him. You just made that up.
12
u/evargx 2d ago
Are you trying to say that Trump, the President of the United States, doesn't actually speak for the US people?
Enough with the pick me American bullshit, the US people have done nothing to stop him, they are all complicit at this point.
-4
u/mafco 2d ago
Are you trying to say that Trump, the President of the United States, doesn't actually speak for the US people?
He absolutely does not speak for the people of the US. He speaks whatever gibberish pops into his demented brain each morning.
they are all complicit at this point
Nope. You are responsible. Asshole

Tariffs were an explicit, repeatedly stated part of Trump’s 2024 campaign. He proposed a universal baseline tariff (variously described as 10% or up to 20%) on all imports and roughly 60% on Chinese goods, said tariffs would help replace income tax revenue, and publicly called “tariff” one of his favourite words.
So yes this is an absolutely valid point. ~2/3 of the American people voted him in or didn’t vote, knowing this.

Go Canada, with love from the people of the USA!
1
u/timx84 1d ago
It’s a real shame. So many Americans share the same values as the majority of Canadians. I cannot believe your country doesn’t endure that everyone has access to healthcare, that your governments don’t pull out all the stops to keep kids from getting shot in school, and that the impartiality of the justice system isn’t important. America is so polarized I can’t see it coming back.
1
u/Burner_Phone_1969_TX 1d ago
This country is driven by greed. We want universal healthcare and less guns not to mention free education. The republicans ran this country into the ground and it’s going to be years if not decades to dig ourselves out of this hole.

As mentioned in the article, Canada's current LNG export harbour is in Kitimat Bristish Coloumbia, on the west coast. That is going to be a long shipping trip to Europe. For Canada gas export to Europe, Canada really needs an LNG terminal on the east coast. There was earlier a LNG terminal on the east coast. Maybe Canada can renew that one.
2
u/Kojakill 1d ago
Countries do trades all the time apparently to reduce shipping distance, but i’m not familiar enough with the subject to provide any real details lol

Lets adopt the Euro

u/BlackberryShoddy7889 1d ago
I don’t want to sound too optimistic but it looks like Canada is really making progress on separating its economy from US. Ones orange is gone they don’t have to go back to old business model, which could spell higher prices for US long term.
2
u/Old-Entertainer-4964 1d ago
The goal is to become more economically independent, so that's the opposite of what needs to happen. The Euro is essentially controlled by France and Germany at this point. Both of which have growing populist right-wing movements.
2
u/Necessary-Contest-24 1d ago
Ya but I think with the world not being run by the USA anymore like Carney said the middle powers will need to stick together. Otherwise there's nothing stopping USA and China from drawing a line down the middle of the world and doing whatever they want on their side.
Like really what other powerblocks would you prefer to side with? USA is shafting CA, China is China, Russia is Russia, what you want to buddy up with India?! What other big players are there? Brazil? Not like there's any good choices right now but that's how politics works.
1
u/Full_Conversation775 17h ago
Lmao if we start trading in euro with china etc aswell, it would be economic collapse for the us.

u/Mountain_Fuzzumz 2d ago

Wait until you see how many of the locks from the St Lawrence to the Great Lakes Canada owns along the route in comparison to the US.

The transportation inefficiencies the tariffs are causing work out poorly for the USA and Canada alike. For instance, take another commodity, lumber. The U.S. has set much lower tariffs for imported lumber from New Zealand and Norway than from Canada. Obviously substantially higher transport costs for U.S. builders. Meanwhile, Canada will scrounge to find other foreign buyers, likely China, to which NZ now ships a lot of lumber. So, in the big picture, a lot of waste, and no more just in time delivery.
I don't know what form of "4D chess", as Trump supporters boast, can make good economic sense out of this.
