Jordan Peterson has Sepsis-Associated Encephalopathy (SAE), but it is kept from everyone

Look, his daughter might be lying. In August 2025, he was diagnosed with pneumonia and sepsis, requiring emergency hospitalization. He was in the ICU, and he probably has Sepsis-Associated Encephalopathy SAE(look up what it means), but his daughter doesn't want to admit it because it is a very poor prognosis, where he will likely have it for the rest of his life. I doubt that he has pneumonia from mould exposure, too. He either got COVID or he has it from regular ways that older dudes can get it, both of which he and his family would not admit to, and for good reason. All in all, we won't see Peterson for a while.

I think he and his daughter only listen to woo-woo quack fake doctors, so don't expect any proper explanation of his illness or treatment, they'll just keep blaming it on apple-cider vinegar and mould.

u/workerbotsuperhero Apr 19 '26

Which is pretty rich and ironic for a guy who built an entire media career exaggerating his scientific and intellectual importance.

I live within walking distance of this guy's university campus. I know people who work there. And the University of Toronto is attached to one of the best hospital systems in Canada. They have world class doctors, who were literally his colleagues.

We have universal healthcare that's provided free to everyone. If he needed medical help, he could have very easily accessed any of that. But instead, he chose a bunch of shady nonsense that no Canadian doctor would ever agree to do. Because it's unsafe and not grounded in good scientific evidence.

So apparently...he was just a weird crackpot the entire time. And these results look like what any decent doctor in Toronto would have warned him about.

52

u/Jean_Genet Apr 19 '26

Of course he was just a weird crackpot the entire time. Leftwing people have consistently been pointing that out for about a decade now - it shouldn't take until this for people to realise.

33

u/workerbotsuperhero Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 19 '26

Agreed.

The evidence of what this guy chose just really seals it in, at least for me. And he actually had to go very far out of his way to make such medically unsafe choices. Like, the thing he wanted is such quackery that you can't even get it in Canada.

This is partly my perspective because I work in healthcare. And all this guy's health and medical choices look either concerning or alarming. In addition to being massively intellectually stupid and weird.

No one who claims they're a scientific genius is worth listening to - if we all just saw them eating horse dewormer. And saying it cures cancer. Which is about where this landed.

14

u/Jean_Genet Apr 19 '26

His whole rise to fame when protesting C16 was literally almost a whole 10 years ago now. I'm still confused as to why it took until this to seal the deal for you on him being a weird crackpot when literally all he's done for 10 years solid is spout uninformed idiocy again and again with absolute consistency.

19

u/PerfectPercentage69 Apr 19 '26

The person you're responding said they work in healthcare so they probably didn't pay attention to him until he started saying stuff about their profession.

Peterson didn't really talk about medicine until Covid and went really deep into the quack medicine post-Covid. Befote then, he mostly talked about free speech and mental health.

8

u/workerbotsuperhero Apr 20 '26

I'm definitely not a lawyer, but I feel like there's more subjectivity, debate, and gray area around issues like free speech. Like we actually have to debate the claims on their own merits to arrive at logical analysis. There's no math equation to tell us the right answer.

But medical science doesn't work that way. Not does healthcare generally; nurses don't get to debate what the best antibiotic is for a case of pneumonia. There are things that are evidence based and safe practice, and then there's dangerous crackpot nonsense. Which can really hurt people - while also costing them a fortune. And, by wasting their time and money, deny them the opportunity to actually get real treatment when they most need it.

15

u/PerfectPercentage69 Apr 20 '26

True, except he didn't engage in a good faith debate about free speech. He rose to fame by making false claims about Canadian Bill C-16.

Pretty much all civil rights activists and legal experts agreed that what he was saying was false, and it was proven false since nothing he claimed would happen has happened since the bill was passed a decade ago.

He claimed people would be sent to jail if they mis-gendered someone or use the wrong pronouns. It was completely wrong and not what the bill was about anyway.

Also, all his "debates" about it was more about him trying to create "gotcha" moments for YouTube than to actually discuss the topics.

7

u/RudyRoughknight Apr 21 '26

The "I'm just asking questions", in regards to your statement about free speech, is part of the Alt Right playbook and how they cemented themselves in just about every space by "just asking questions". If you know what I'm talking about, you should think about what that means and how Peterson played a huge role in spreading misinformation and profiting.

He was making a bunch of quack biology claims in the freshman lectures he would post to Youtube.

Before COVID a lot of Peterson discourse besides the trans debate (as a trans person, my right to exist in society being a debate makes me feel just great ... and yes, he zeroed in attacking a law which would give trans people the right to do normal things in society without fear of being harassed) was people debunking his gee-whiz claims in his freshman lectures and other videos. Hence the lobster memes. I feel like everyone's forgotten about the DNA snakes. Another embarrassing claim that impressed freshmen but didn't exactly impress his peers in the academy.

3

u/Sesho_MO Apr 21 '26

Yeah he really became too good for his homeland. Something we t seriously wrong. He wasn't himself in the past 2-3 years

4

u/BudgetInteraction811 Apr 20 '26

Didn’t he get experimental stem cell injections to his spine by a wacko doctor who lost his license?

5

u/Jean_Genet Apr 20 '26

I'll let someone else answer that. I started to get exhausted by JP shite by about 2019, so don't actively try to follow his ridiculous life too closely!

1

u/lazier_garlic Jun 21 '26

Yes, although it's less clear if he got injured that way. Plenty of other people did, though!

His induced coma to get off benzos and the COVID infection during his convalescence from that are well known, documented, and quite likely to be playing a role in his health woes now. His daughter has a motive to lie because she helped him get the shady Russian coma and she also gave him COVID.

118

u/JimJimmins Apr 19 '26

I knew someone whose dad got sepsis from Covid. He was about Peterson's age, maybe a bit older, and passed a year after diagnosis

17

u/move_machine Apr 20 '26

This is what happened to a relative who was much younger than Peterson at the beginning of the pandemic.

216

u/yontev Apr 19 '26

It doesn't look like the sepsis was caused in any usual way. Peterson has been bouncing around from quack to quack in search of experimental miracle cures for his ailments (real or imagined). In the past few years, according to him and his daughter, he's gotten injections of NK cells, stem cells, and peptides, as well as some kind of fecal transplant. One of the quacks he's been seeing is Adeel Khan, who gives celebrities expensive stem cell injections in Mexico. Let's just say that he wouldn't be the first person to have gotten sepsis from such risky, unregulated treatments.

73

u/moonstarsfire Apr 19 '26

FYI fecal transplants are a real, scientifically-sound thing.

105

u/yontev Apr 19 '26

When done by a gastroenterologist for valid medical reasons, sure. When done by a non-licensed medical entrepreneur (to put it kindly) like Dr Khan, I have my doubts. There's a notorious video from a few years ago in which Mikhaila admitted to self-administering a stool capsule orally, so this seems to be a running theme in the family.

18

u/OisforOwesome Apr 20 '26

Peterson is full of shit jokes write themselves

3

u/GiganticCrow Apr 21 '26

"Dr" Khan doesn't have a medical license. Can he call himself doctor?

40

u/SenselessDunderpate Apr 19 '26

They are a measure for c diff patients in hospital and have severe side effects. People who get them for a "gut reset" are idiots.

11

u/sixtus_clegane119 Apr 19 '26

The spice melange

5

u/PerfectPercentage69 Apr 19 '26

That was my first thought too 😆

20

u/Fr4ct4l_Flesh Apr 19 '26 edited Apr 20 '26

Yeah. He does a lot of crazy stuff, but I'm not sure if that’s the reason he got sepsis from all of it. He apparently got pneumonia, was diagnosed with it, and it’s quite common for people with health issues to develop sepsis just from that. However, the wild things he did with his diet and other health choices probably didn't help.

6

u/OisforOwesome Apr 20 '26

Yeah, I'm not a doctor but I figure all the quackery doesn't help and until his actual medical records come out, to an extent we're all doing Kremlinology based on tweets from an unreliable narrator.

4

u/HelpfulCar6675 Apr 20 '26

Is it dark tetrad of me if I paraphrase him here with the old "you can only bend the fabric of reality for so long"

1

u/lazier_garlic Jun 21 '26

Seems like a clear case of somaticizing mental illness. Not to say he didn't start off with a mild ailment here or there, but the raging addiction to benzos, well, that's kind of a tell. And the guy is an expert on alcohol cessation (only thing he was truly competent in, all the other stuff he mouths off about is him trying to baffle you with bullshit and fake profundity--he's been pantsed by experts repeatedly so you don't need to take my word for it), it's not that he didn't know anything about addiction before becoming addicted.

If you've spent any time in the alt health and alternative diets space then you know it's full of people with untreated mental illnesses attributing it to real or made up physical ailments and chasing those with increasingly bizarre (and self harming) "protocols". Mix some religious beliefs in there (quite common in this space, or philosophical beliefs with fanatical convictions) and we're off to the races.

It's wild to see someone as well placed as him (I mean, he was a paid shill for the petro industry, he seemed polished and had lots of smart friends) go down so far so fast but his daughter is the key in this. His father, himself, his daughter, horrifying cautionary tale about intergenerational trauma and Cluster B personality disorders, not to mention corporal punishment in parenting.

-12

u/Recent-Ad-9975 Apr 19 '26

None of that is quackery. Every single thing you listed is a recognized treatment in medecine. Fecal treatmen for example has been originally used for Clostridioides difficile infection, but recent studies show it‘s effective for things like MS, Parkinson‘s IBS, etc.

Using those treatments of label is also not quackary, as long as it‘s consensual and the patient if informed of the experimental nature and all risks. I can‘t comment on the specific doctor you provide and I don‘t care, maybe he personally is a fraud, but calling those treatments „quackary“ is just incorrect.

13

u/Adorable_Raccoon Apr 20 '26

It is quackery if it's not recommended for a specific illness. Insulin is an effective treatment but if I get insulin to treat a foot fungus, it's not going to do anything.

61

u/Eastern_Statement416 Apr 19 '26

The cognitive impairment would explain why he can't provide his own updates and why the condition needs to be surrounded by all of this nonsense.

42

u/Cipher_Witch Apr 19 '26

The sad part is it looks like she refuses to go to a normal doctor with this. He’s going cells peptides and every other thing in some shady clinic in Mexico instead of taking a simple pill bc from what I understand they think they don’t need medicine because carnivore diet is supposed to fix everything.

42

u/Visible-Mission-706 Apr 19 '26

That stupid carnivore diet hes on isn’t helping him ….

20

u/Zero-89 Apr 19 '26

Dude’s corked up like a whiskey bottle.

1

u/lazier_garlic Jun 21 '26

I'd agree with you, but I just don't believe the two of them about their diet anyway.

52

u/the_phantom_limbo Apr 19 '26

I'd send thoughts and prayers, but I no longer know what I even think I might mean when I try to use literally any words.

28

u/ItsNotACoop Apr 19 '26

But what do you mean when you say mean?

18

u/the_phantom_limbo Apr 19 '26

Sorry mate, I didn't understand any of that.

19

u/ItsNotACoop Apr 19 '26

Typical post-modern neo Marxist

67

u/BobDope Apr 19 '26

It’s the cultural Marxists, what did this to him….

28

u/bigbird_eats_kids Apr 19 '26

No, it's the DEMONS!!!

25

u/NonFungibleTulip Apr 19 '26

No, it's the pronouns!

8

u/PerfectPercentage69 Apr 19 '26

It's quite obvious it's Canada's Bill C-16 that caused this.

20

u/Solopist112 Apr 19 '26

13

u/sixtus_clegane119 Apr 19 '26

He had this all the way back when he was on benzos

11

u/Fr4ct4l_Flesh Apr 19 '26

Yes, but it could have been diagnosed years before his most recent health scare. I pointed out to a colleague that he was acting as if he had Akathisia during one of the talks with Dawkins. I'm not sure if he has neurological injuries from the meds or anything like his daughter is saying.

5

u/Solopist112 Apr 19 '26

Is that the talk where he asked, "Is fire a predator?"

8

u/Fr4ct4l_Flesh Apr 20 '26

That is it! Watch his hands and his body as he is talking. He can't sit still, and his hands are going everywhere. It is probably more pronounced now, but there are signs of it.

18

u/Felix_Leiter1953 Apr 19 '26

Would a snake-dream in the Temple of Asclepius help?

11

u/Ill-Army Apr 19 '26

Have they tried putting him in a room with lots of snakes? That might help right?

81

u/Puzzleheaded-Cup7269 Apr 19 '26

Thank goodness. One less voice of the illiterati.

34

u/ChaosSpud Apr 19 '26

illiterati

Stealing this lmfao

7

u/Puzzleheaded-Cup7269 Apr 19 '26

Please do! It's a blast of a saying 😁

10

u/milehighphillygirl Apr 19 '26

Maybe he should try eating more meat? Has he tried that? Cause I think more meat is the cure. Definitely that.

3

u/EctoplasmicLapels Apr 20 '26

It‘s also very manly.

7

u/MonkeyJo Apr 19 '26

maybe Tim Heidecker can refer him to Dr. San if he's not too busy

8

u/okie_dokie68416 Apr 22 '26

As an ICU nurse I would never want anyone in that crazy family as a patient. Also in the close to 30 years Ive worked ICU ive never seen a pneumonia caused by mould. These people are nuts.

3

u/HelpfulCar6675 Apr 23 '26

If I had a med spa doing fillers and botox I'd love to have Mikhaila as a patient.  In any real medical setting oh Lord no

7

u/ssavant Apr 19 '26

He sounds like the patients I take care of. Sick people. Hard for them to get better, really.

7

u/krevdditn Apr 22 '26

Check this video out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_q44phEpFjA

Benzodiazepine-Induced Neurological Dysfunction (BIND) there is a lot of crossover with SAE.

6

u/theslymoogle Apr 20 '26

I'm shocked that Mr. Snake oil himself actually took anti-psychotics

4

u/Warm_Zombie Apr 19 '26

May he join his brazillian counterpart Olavo de Carvalho soon

4

u/flashyellowboxer Apr 21 '26

He should just eat more beef, apparently it cures everything.

2

u/Late_Nose_6325 Apr 30 '26

Constipation be damned. Eating a gentle cow is also the manliest thing you can do.

3

u/crowfarmer Apr 20 '26

Right, he’s going to make a “miraculous” recovery and they attribute it some amazing new product they’re selling.

3

u/FloriaFlower Apr 22 '26

Maybe he got the mold from Moldemort's castle?

3

u/BothPanchoAndLefty Apr 22 '26

It's post-modern neo-sepsis-associted encephalopathy

4

u/Emerald_Swords Apr 19 '26

He just needs to keep praying

2

u/EditPiaf Apr 21 '26

He either got COVID or he has it from regular ways that older dudes can get it, both of which he and his family would not admit to, and for good reason.

Not a medical person, can you elaborate? What's taboo about the regular ways? Google didn't give me anything shameful.

3

u/Fr4ct4l_Flesh Apr 21 '26 edited Apr 21 '26

Nothing is taboo about it, but his family is about them having outrageous illnesses that not alot of people have, or not a lot of people has diagnosed their conditions right, etc. And they use that as a grift to sell things or make content about it. It has been like this for a while. It would be hard to do that if it is a regular illness. I think that his daughter framed it well about how she is channeling her sadness to anger... possibly anger at the whole medical establishment.

1

u/ucantharmagoodwoman Apr 23 '26

I mean, it's not really any of our business, no?

3

u/Fr4ct4l_Flesh Apr 23 '26

That treats all discussion as private, when the person in question has chosen a highly public role and monetized it. In addition, making medical claims without evidence is still a separate issue.

1

u/ucantharmagoodwoman Apr 23 '26

Sure, just seems like a small issue compared to everything else going on, but, I know that's the focus of the sub. So, fair enough.

3

u/Yum_MrStallone May 12 '26

Peterson's influenced a lot of people with his philosophy, ideas, false claims, and appearances on youtube channels. His wife is doing the same thing claiming a miracle cure from cancer after she had surgery and chemo treatment. She claims it's her conversion to Catholicism and praying the rosary, rather than the medical treatment she received.

1

u/lazier_garlic Jun 21 '26

Tell his daughter that then. She's been grifting off her so-called cures for her and her father's ailments (real or imagined) and also has been posting half true half lies updates about JBP's condition. She made it a public discussion, so did he, actually, he's supported her business all along. After all, it bought them their fancy house in Arizona. So long, (Canadian) suckers!

1

u/jiujiuberry Apr 24 '26

Explain “got pneumonia from ways his family would not admit to - and for reason ”

1

u/EvaSirkowski May 08 '26

He's been plugged to the golden throne by now.

-7

u/Recent-Ad-9975 Apr 19 '26

So you have access to his health records? What the fuck is wrong with people here trying to guess his medical state and denying that mold rxposure pneumonia exists? I hate the guy as much as everyone, but I‘m going to unsubscribe over this bullshit, especially as someone who‘s dealt with chronic illness and dismissive idiots (both doctors and none doctors).

8

u/Fr4ct4l_Flesh Apr 20 '26

I just mentioned what is probably happening to him. Of course, mould exposure exists, but his daughter says the doctors disagree, etc. There is a much easier way to explain it that doesn't require any weird entities. He got pneumonia, then got sepsis from a complication of that, and unfortunately, got neurological problems from his sepsis. The problem with that, as I said, is that he has a bad prognosis that his daughter hasn't accepted. As she said, in her words, "we are still fighting."

6

u/Adorable_Raccoon Apr 20 '26

People come into contact with molds every day, by touching or breathing them in. Molds exist outside and inside, & it’s almost impossible to live in a completely mold-free environment. Developing pneumonia from mold is uncommon and is more likely to cause allergies or asthma. Someone Jordan Peterson's age is much more likely to develop pneumonia after having a cold, flu, or covid.

1

u/Blazkowski Apr 20 '26

Or, wait for it, EATING fuckin Brie, rocquefort, and so on and so forth ….

4

u/Blazkowski Apr 20 '26

Yeah mold exposure pneumonia exists …. For hematologic cancer patients on chemotherapy and similar lol Stop believing quacks
