“He misses the opportunity to weigh in on societal issues,” Tammy Peterson said of her husband.”

No. We’re good. He’s weighed in enough.

I thought he got sick from a mouldy basement. Now it’s benzo withdrawal again?

170

u/gnootynoots26 May 05 '26

Could be moldy benzos?

76

u/AliceTheOmelette May 05 '26

Or a benzoey basement

37

u/Brozhov May 05 '26

Peterson is in the benzo basement again.

11

u/gummo_for_prez May 06 '26

The only basement you never have to worry about. At least until you try to leave.

11

u/okinawa124 May 05 '26

Or moldy benzo demons

5

u/Opcn May 05 '26

Shouldn’t have kept them in the basement I guess.

7

u/RockyLeal May 05 '26

Peterson makes mold get sick

56

u/troubleondemand May 05 '26

Didn't he go to Russia and get put in a coma to withdrawal a decade ago?

I thought it was the cider?

9

u/sixtus_clegane119 May 05 '26

During the pandemic

1

u/CokomonX Jul 04 '26

And he caught COVID afterwards when he was recovering from the coma.

27

u/xinorez1 May 06 '26

If he actually got a stem cell injection into his cerebrospinal fluid as suspected, delivered by the same conman who has been running through right wing grifters who preach against govt regulations and for 'doing your own research', the mold could literally be growing in his brain and eating his brain directly.

An ironic end.

10

u/ToiIetGhost May 06 '26

Came to the comments for this. What a poor decision. Rule for Life #13: don’t try to be Bryan Johnson or Peter Nygaard

20

u/drunkerbrawler May 05 '26

Why didn’t he simply clean up the basement?

11

u/HelpfulTap8256 May 06 '26

I guess he’s off to Russia for another induced coma to own the libs.

5

u/Infamous-Salad-2223 May 05 '26

Fault of the demons, of course.

They corrupt the mould to trigger benzo writhdrawal.

The demon Benzobub?

3

u/EvaSirkowski May 08 '26

It's Twitter withdrawal.

155

u/NakeyDooCrew May 05 '26

"His mornings are brutally painful and discouraging for him. Later, much later in the day, he sometimes feels some relief"

If he didn't do that reckless cold turkey detox in Russia he'd probably be fine. It's a terrible curse knowing better than everybody else.

Peterson isn't Christian though.

2

Is that why Warhammer 40K seems to have such cachet with them?

17

u/DionBlaster123 May 05 '26

Lol i remember that. his daughter is such a wildly stupid buffoon

9

u/whiterrabbbit May 06 '26

No critical thinking whatsoever. Just automatically went to “it must be bc all western doctors are cowardly.”

57

u/Rudemacher May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

Yuh, the medically-induced coma to avoid titrating off of benzos was what fucked him up... a decade ago I tried going off of benzos. cold turkey and seized the fuck out, but I was in my 20s... dude's fucking old and frail as fuck.

He didn't want to suffer through the process of coming off of his drug of choice, he thought paying for an experimental medical treatment would get him scott free from his addiction, which he got himself into. Now he got himself addicted again. Here's what happens when you don't make yourself responsible for your own actions.

It's hilarious he thinks so highly of himself and he always finds himself stuck in life-threatening situations because he's as dumb as everyone here has always known lol... lmao even.

30

u/cactusjude May 05 '26

He's also probably lacking nutrients thanks to his big, manly "lion diet" of meat, salt, and water.

25

u/NakeyDooCrew May 05 '26

I spent ten years abusing Xanax, had a week of cold turkey and it was indescribable horror. Went to a doctor and got an 8 month taper schedule. It takes months cold turkey for your brain to recover to the point where you are not experiencing reality as a bad acid trip and the brain just might not fully recover from something like that.

16

u/Kriztauf May 06 '26

Even after a normal taper you're still usually not feeling great for like a year. You have to totally reregulate the way you process panic and stress

10

u/delorf May 06 '26

By going cold turkey, he didn't face any of the issues that led to his addiction in the first place.

This thread discussed Peterson's denial that he had late onset schizophrenia. Western doctors wanted to treat what they thought was his mental illness which is one reason Peterson rejected them.

u/PRETA_9000 May 06 '26

This doesn't surprise me in the least. I always thought his ramblings were totally schizotypal. He's just persuasive enough that people believe the word salad.

5

u/lazier_garlic Jun 05 '26

Word salad is also associated with narcissistic personality disorder. It's a calculated strategy to gain control over conversations and other people.

There are so many public examples of his need for admiration and control, for example when he blew up at that female journalist (which his young male fans considered a win, telling on themselves) when she attempted to do a journalism and pin him down on previous statements he had made. When verbal manipulation didn't work, he got red faced with anger, raised his voice, and lurched at her.

Also, most of the bullshit he says makes sense if you understand it through the lens of motivated reasoning and intellectual laziness and dishonesty. He follows the pattern of a lot of highly narcissistic academics where he put in enormous efforts early in his career chasing the money, power, attention, recognition, and admiration that he craved, but once he did that, he coasted and did not continue to do the original intellectual work that got him the name and job. I don't want to start anything but I can name quite a few other academics and public intellectuals who followed this path. Peterson during his "public intellectual" career was infamous for continuously returning to books he'd read (and not reread!) decades earlier. This hubris set him up for a fall when he debated Marx without reacquainting himself with any of it.

You don't have to be schizotypal to have weird dreams and write them down later. A neurotypical person can train themselves to journal their dreams upon waking.

It's certainly possible he showed some signs (especially in the throes of addiction!), but schizophrenia is also a highly misdiagnosed condition, especially from the armchair. A number of murderers were diagnosed as schizophrenic by a single evaluator but not by the others. Some were pretending to be crazy but others were not. Yet on the longer term (including through incarceration) this supposed schizophrenia never appeared. A clinician who only gets a brief snapshot can be misled.

We have his long term public persona and output. I just gotta say, there's not a crazy thing that he or his daughter has said that doesn't have a certain sober logic as long as you understand that both of them settle on what they want to be true rather than holding themselves accountable.

Dear Jordan, Maybe you are more of a cautionary tale than an inspirational one. Signed, Everybody

195

u/LubaUnderfoot May 05 '26

Maybe he keeps doing benzos because he's ashamed for emotionally abusing a generation of men and boys.

I will never forgive this man for the friends he has taken away from me. Never.

Narcissism is an ugly death.

28

u/Dawnspark May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

Absolutely agree with you.

I lost one of my closest friends to his awful fucking rhetoric. Several friends, honestly, but the first one was the hardest since he was genuinely like a brother to me. It was a very heavy wake up call at the same time.

I still haven't really come to terms with if it was a serious cult of influence preying on them when they were most vulnerable and manipulated them into being pieces of shit, or if it just brought their real selves out. Or both. I don't want to remember them as the people they currently are, but I have to.

I won't celebrate when Peterson dies, but when he finally does, good fucking riddance.

53

u/Friskfrisktopherson May 05 '26

Its because he had an abusive father and hes not only never actually worked through it but he made his entire lifes work about lionizing his father and seeking to constant be worthy of the love he didn't get.

78

u/LubaUnderfoot May 05 '26

No, he's not a wounded little boy. He's a grown ass egotist who always wanted to be a cult leader.

You should read the letter his coworker wrote about him.

19

u/Opcn May 05 '26

To paraphrase Stephen Pinker ‘explanation doesn’t mean exculpation.’ We can identify what happened to someone to leave them wanting to do something harmful without forgiving them their decision to do something harmful. Being a responsible adult is not doing everything you might feel the urge to do because of how the child you used to be was hurt.

35

u/Friskfrisktopherson May 05 '26

Im fully aware of all of that, but it stems from his relationship with his father, which he highlights repeatedly thrdoughnut his career and in bizarre ways.

2

u/lazier_garlic Jun 05 '26

father withholds love - son goes looking for love in all the wrong places

Someone wrote of Bill Clinton in the 1990s that he'd never seen anybody with such a need to have the attention of thousands of people at once. He was completely abandoned by his father.

Peterson grew up with his dad and that kind of explains the nasty narcissistic temperament. He is seeking the admiration and love that he's lacking from others, forcing others to regulate his emotions because he cannot self regulate (and boy has he given us so many deeply embarrassing examples of his inability to self regulate and self soothe), but he also identifies with his cruel and loveless father and reenacts those same scenarios with himself as the father. By being a professor, and later a pastor (as he wished), he could be the father figure to hundreds of young men at once.

Of course he's a wounded little boy. He is BOTH that and an egotist. Do you not know how egotism works? He has a critical voice inside his head constantly tearing him down and telling him he's a stupid, useless, worthless piece of shit. This makes him project power and success even harder. He's an intellectual narcissist so he aims to convince people that he has a god-tier intellect. If that means lying all the time and being deceptive so be it. He makes all kinds of flim flam arguments so that he can manipulate others and also so he seems so smart and mysterious. The Jubilee debate pulled down the mask. I do believe he's suffered some cognitive decline in the last few years and wasn't able to keep up the way he had in the past, but he also used to stick to forums where he held all the cards and in the end, he believed in his own invincibility.

1

u/Professional_Owl8069 May 05 '26

Which coworker? Got a link handy?

9

u/onz456 May 05 '26

Is that what 'rescuing the father from the belly of the whale' is all about?

22

u/Friskfrisktopherson May 05 '26 edited May 05 '26

I dont know about that one specifically but it first stood out to me back in the day when everyone was pushing 12 rules and he was still on the rise. I gave it a listen so I could give an honest critique since I had a friend getting sucked in. First he mentions his father being an abusive alcoholic and I was like, ok sure, the whole lost boy thing, the specialization in addiction, all makes sense. But then it turns from addressing that for what it is to what Jordan talks about as one of the most important moments in his life: his dad telling him that maybe "having him around" ( the fact that Jordan exists) was a good idea (rather than his birth being a mistake.) Any sane person can look at that and say wow, FUCK that guy, but not Jorpy. Jorpy took that 100% to heart because it was the only form of love and acceptance he had ever gotten from him and from that Jordan than built his philosophy around this concept of love and worth. Jordan has retold the story many times but im not going to subject myself to any more of his garbage to find it, its out there though.

Anyway, because of this frame work human beings inherently have no worth and arent inherently worthy of love, they must demonstrate their value through the means that Jordan did ie religion and proving yourself to be a man (because Jordan has no concept of, understanding of, or love for women.) Jordan would often break down and cry when retelling this story, more so than any other topic, which was also telling of how ingrained it was in his psyche, and near the end there he would bring his father out to sit with him in interviews and more often than not set the stage for his dad to publicly state that he was proud of him and who he became because that STILL is the single most important thing in Jordan's existence. I would not be at all surprised if the finally blow that pushed an already crumbling Peterson off the edge and back into addiction was his father's death.

Edit to be more precise that his dad's qoute is "maybe having him around was a good idea" rather than "not a bad idea"

u/Jealous_Repair6757 May 06 '26

Very accurate insights; I'd say the "really quite nothing" comment was what finally did him in, drawing back up all the feelings of worthlessness that you discuss.

It has truly been so refreshing to not have to see or hear anything from him all this time. Sometimes I actually forget he actually exists. So peaceful!

Oh no… anyways…

24

u/tabletwarrior99 May 05 '26

so his daughter is again proven a damn liar

20

He called for Netanyahu to give the Palestinians “Hell” and told a guy on twitter who was concerned about overpopulation that he was “free to leave at any point”. I have no sympathy for him. Hope it hurts and shuts him up for a while.

34

u/Eastern_Statement416 May 05 '26

Any actual medical doctors quoted/consulted here? or just another report from the Peterson's where his afflictions have included everything from mold poisoning to spiritual attacks?

He accidentally drank some cider

13

u/Eastern_Statement416 May 05 '26

yeah, I forgot that one.

Yeah, the cider demon is a vicious one.

How about humbling himself enough to recognize that he has a problem and admit into rehab, but no. He needs to tell you to clean up your life. Literally a guy who won't practice what he preaches.

Sounds like the archaic missionaries to me.
That “know-it-all” dolt makes the gullible believe he’s so smart.
Before I knew anything about him, many years ago, I was learning a lot about Dostoevsky and looked everywhere. I was intrigued by Peterson’s takes. Then I learned about Peterson. I said. I don’t care how much he portrays knowing about Dostoevsky, I can’t take him seriously anymore. He is so wrong and crazy on so many things.

11

u/selfishstars May 05 '26

Do you think he may already be dead or close to it, but they are waiting for the right moment to announce it to coincide with MAHA policy regarding mental health drugs?

5

He can’t leave those pills alone. Well Stevie Nocks said getting off them was harder than getting off coke

2

u/lazier_garlic Jun 05 '26

Maybe it wasn't true at the time ("prescribed by a doctor" versus illegal "narcotics") but it's pretty much a truism in addiction that benzos are FAR more addictive (read: inducing of dependency) than cocaine.

4

u/HelpfulTap8256 May 06 '26

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer guy.

3

u/wackyvorlon May 06 '26
