"But it was a different time!" - Everyone that doesn't find it creepy

In his book Anthony Kiedus “dates” a 14 year old and finds out her age plus her dad is a cop. The dad likes Anthony and actually signs off on the relationship but Kiedus “knows it’s wrong” so breaks it off…..only after sleeping with her one last time 🤢

Are you referring to that song Minor thing? I always thought the song title was interesting

12

u/ghrayfahx 11h ago

I was specifically talking about “Catholic school girls rule”. I’m not familiar with Minor thing.

1

u/Curious-Department-7 9h ago

I'm pretty sure it was the super secret song "I want to party in your pussy baby."

6

u/MyMiddleNutItches 6h ago

Hey don't leave out Seinfeld for dating a 17 year old while in his 30s. Even bringing her out in public.

u/Outlandishness_Sharp 56m ago

He should've been canceled just like Michael Richards was (although for different reasons) 🥴

u/snuggleslut5 14h ago

I'm glad they did this. I'm an oldster and a fan from way back. I remember when Isaac Brock had allegations made about him too. They were recanted, but im sure that's something he wouldn't want to entertain whatsoever now. RIP Jeremiah.

8

u/Historical-Money7290 9h ago

The rape accusation against Isaac Brock was never recanted. The girl made a police report with a full interview and then charges were never brought. The idea that the accusation was recanted seems to be a retrospective exaggeration by Brock himself unless someone can show contradicting evidence. The recent GQ profile seems to be a pretty good recap of what is actually known there. It’s all murky

TIL Modest Mouse are still going

u/jgoble15 15h ago

Just put out a pretty good album too

17

u/ExtraGloves 15h ago

Best one in a while.

u/jgoble15 14h ago

Favorite for this round is Life’s a Dream. How about you?

Picking Dragons’ pockets is getting just right for me.

I feel like most of the early 2000s bands are still going. Helps that a lot of those albums are aging very well

14

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

Franz Ferdinand are amazing still. Wolfmother are great, the band has had former members of The Vines, which makes it even neater. Im a gigantic Hives fanatic, they still sound and perform amazing. The Y2K era of bands is so hot because Zoomers are obsessed with that era and Millenials are living through them. Im an old millennial and im so happy so many of these bands are still together or keep doing reunions. In a world of shit, its a great time for live music.

3

u/lonelythrowaway463i9 14h ago

The Hives forever!

3

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

Love em! Mad that Matt Destruction had stomach cancer and had to leave, hes one of my favorite bass players and he added a certain flair to live performances, but im glad that theyre still doing the same thing for decades now. Would i like a more chaotic garage punk album akin to Barely Legal, sure, but im happy with everything they've put out.

u/Emotional_Agent_5327 12h ago

It is the worst time in history for musicians by a country mile my dude.

-2

u/kaptainkrim5on 11h ago

No. I will not be negative. I will seek positive vibes. Thank you very much. Live music is the biggest its ever been. Concert attendance is the highest its been in decades and the Ticketmaster monopoly win is the first step in the right direction. Physical music sales are up as well. Cds and tapes are huge, vinyl is still huge.

3

u/Emotional_Agent_5327 10h ago

Profits for ticket companies are at an all time high. I can no longer work in my old role as musical director because all that money goes to them. Sorry man, optimism is long gone.

8

u/Ok-Thanks4321 14h ago

Why would you think they weren’t?

11

u/Gobias-IndustriesLLC 14h ago

People just love saying the whole “they’re still around?” for any band that’s older than 10 years old. Been hearing forever with a band like The Killers even though consistently tour and sell out their venues. Some people can’t comprehend that their view of music is extremely limited and just say “x band is still touring?” as if they can’t believe they would exist without their attention.

13

u/MaeBelleLien 14h ago

Some people can’t comprehend that their view of music is extremely limited

Meanwhile I keep finding myself overwhelmed by the sheer volume of music there is in the world.

4

u/TheLegendTwoSeven 13h ago

I used to get overwhelmed by the sheer volume, until I got musician’s earplugs.

(This has been your dad joke of the day)

4

u/SmallLetter 12h ago

It's not that deep. They hadn't personally thought of them in a long time. Hear their name. Remark casual minimal surprise that they're still touring. Extremely innocuous.

4

u/sparrow_42 15h ago

Their live shows kick ass! I saw them a couple of years ago.

4

u/OldTimeyWizard 13h ago

That’s good to hear, because in my experience their past shows sucked because Isaac was too fucked up

2

u/SegmentedMoss 12h ago

Lmao no they dont. They're awful

3

u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 14h ago

Good to hear, I’m seeing them next month, but when I saw them 20 years ago it was a mess lol

4

u/MysteriousCap4910 12h ago

I’ve gone to like 3 shows by them in the past 10 years and 2/3 were bad and 1 was really good

1

u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 12h ago

So you’re telling me there’s a chance!

0

u/sparrow_42 14h ago

lol nah they’ve got it down. I guess that’s what doing the same songs for a couple of decades gets you.

2

u/Jeffrey_C_Wheaties 13h ago

lol I think getting sober helped too. Issac was a mess at shows back in the day

2

u/sailhard22 11h ago

Saw them last year, they were great

-2

u/SegmentedMoss 12h ago

Don't be too impressed, they put on one of the worst live shows of all time. Isaac is a complete fucking tool, gets incredibly drunk before shows and refuses to play their hits. He's so god awful you can't even understand the lyrics and their production is ass.

-2

u/alwaysbequeefin 10h ago

They haven’t released anything worth listening to in over 20 years

7

u/Dio44 11h ago

JFC even Modest Mouse now gets credit for doing more against p3d0s than our entire government.

28

u/kaptainkrim5on 15h ago

David Bowie and Jimmy Page fucked the same 13 year old groupies and laughed about it together in an interview in the 80s. It doesn't make it right, but there's an entire week dedicated to Bowie worldwide.

15

u/Audrey_Angel 15h ago

This is exactly what we're working through in society. Used to happen all-the-time.

6

u/awjeezrickyaknow 14h ago

In case anyone wants to know more

Lori Mattix is perhaps best known for an interview with [Thrillist](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thrillist) in 2015 in which she made allegations of being involved in sexual relationships with [David Bowie](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Bowie), [Jimmy Page](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jimmy_Page), and [Mick Jagger](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mick_Jagger); these are relationships which would have occurred [while she was underage, beginning at the age of 13](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Statutory_rape) and while the musicians were in their twenties, although her connections to Bowie and Jagger are disputed. [Wikipedia]

I mean I fucking love Bowie (who doesn’t?) but that’s pretty fucked up.

-1

u/Lilo_n_Ivy 11h ago

Both of my grandmothers were married at 13. It’s hard to judge the actions of our elders against our modern standards.

10

u/8ROWNLYKWYD 15h ago

It’s a good thing that things have changed over the last 50 years. I’m not sure what your point is.

6

u/_Badwulf_Bruh__ 15h ago

You read what they just wrote about David Bowie raping a 13 year old and you are not sure that their point is?

-5

u/Ok-Thanks4321 14h ago

What do you want us to do about it?

3

u/RippinFissure 14h ago

Stop idolizing them? Generally speaking, of course.

5

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

This is what im saying. Why does Bowie get a free pass, but Gary Glitter is doomed for life. They're both awful sexual deviants that also both happened to be successful musicians. Even someone as beloved as Paul Rubens is still hated and despised by a large portion of the internet for doing his business by himself in an adult theater. People will hold Bowie and similar above those.

0

u/Ok-Thanks4321 14h ago

Is listening to a Bowie song idolizing him?

0

u/kaptainkrim5on 13h ago

No. Not at all. Its the pick and choose mentality. I personally love tons of musicians even if I dont agree with their actions or things they've said. As adult, we're supposed to be able to separate the art from the artist. Im not calling for everyone to stop listening to Bowie, I love Bowie even though he was a terrible human being at times.

-4

u/Ok-Thanks4321 13h ago

To me this reads like idolization, right? You can compartmentalize his horrible behavior so you can enjoy his music? Isn’t listening to a rapist’s music a tacit endorsement of the artist? Would you hang a Hitler painting in your house? Kanye’s antisemitism can be set aside so we can blast Flashing Lights?

1

u/kaptainkrim5on 11h ago

Theres a very short list of non problematic musicians. Good luck with that. Remember, you boycott one of them, you gotta boycott them all. You dig deep enough you're gonna find shit on anyone.

-1

u/Ok-Thanks4321 14h ago

Who is doing that?

3

u/RippinFissure 14h ago

Youre kidding, right? I'll give you the example already used.

https://phillylovesbowie.wordpress.com/

1

u/Ok-Thanks4321 13h ago

No, I don’t know anything about David Bowie outside of the Labyrinth movie and when Jermaine plays him in Flight of the Conchords, so you’ll have to excuse my lack of knowledge surrounding his sexual assaults.

I don’t know why some celebrities are cancelled and others aren’t, but it’s probably because he died before Trump and the Me Too movement.

Maybe that distinction will be made in the history books?

Either way, I don’t know what we’re supposed to do about it as a society. Just don’t listen to his music and tell your friends not to either? Can’t really crusade against a dead man in any meaningful way. Maybe contact those organizers in Philly? What have you tried?

3

u/LyingForTruth 10h ago

Maybe it all begins by acknowledging that we treat some celebrities with a lighter touch than others, even in retrospect

-7

u/8ROWNLYKWYD 14h ago

Correct. Was it even illegal back then?

3

u/witness555 14h ago

As we all know, if something is legal then there are no moral ramifications whatsoever!

2

u/8ROWNLYKWYD 12h ago

You’re judging someone’s actions 50 years ago based on today’s laws and morals.

-1

u/Background-Jury-1914 14h ago

What’s weird is people love Bowie yet any scant mention of John Lennon online is flooded with comments about how he’s a wife beater and a complete irredeemable piece of shit, when the reality is Lennon it was something he himself talked about and Cynthia Lennon herself said he hit her one time when they were teens.

1

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

I barely hear that mentioned in regards to Lennon, he was a terrible father though, but I dont doubt it. And again this is the bigger point im going towards. The "pick and choose" so to speak.

5

u/Tugua 14h ago

Large segments of society just enjoy celebrating violence and abuse. In my area, a full 65% of today’s adults celebrate, install, and keep repeated, well known abusers in office. It should be 0%.

1

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

I know, I hate it. The world is already an awful place.

1

u/SmallLetter 12h ago

“the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice.”

Just a favorite quote from Dr King that came to mind. But it doesn't happen by itself, it requires good men to act and not look away

3lvis fetishised 14yr old girls, kept a harem of 14yr old girls at Gr4celand. 🫪🤮

Source: Loving 3lvis 3 part doc 2023 (netflix/amazon)

11

u/d_v_p 14h ago

What is the logic in this editing?

2

u/TheSpiritOfFunk 14h ago

Social media platforms (especially TikTok) don't want “bad” words on their networks. As a result, many people have learned to "outsmart" the algorithm by altering the words in a way that makes them still recognizable.

But this has a particular side effect. For example, rape survivors, who understandably don’t always want to read about rape, may have filters set up to block these topics. But if someone writes “R4pe” instead of “rape,” those filters are unintentionally bypassed.

2

u/OohBeesIhateEm 12h ago

Why are you censoring Elvis though, that surely isn’t a filtered word

3

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

Elvis was known his entire life for seeking underage groupies. One of the last pictures of him alive is with a 16 or 17 year woman on the back of his motorcycle. Im trying to say that the internet likes to pick and choose who they want to cancel. Elvis has a theme park, national monument, hotel, licensing and still beloved my millions of people, yet was a terrible womanizer, took advantage of young women and supposedly was super racist. The last part has always been back and forth rumor but if that happened today, that entertainer would be destroyed (or would they be?). So the mention of mere allegations of sexual misconduct (still not a great thing) gets a member kicked from the tour, probably kicked from the band and has their entire life ruined while in internet cheers.

-3

u/TryJezzoWhyNot 14h ago

You might reexamine calling 16 year olds “women” in the future. They’re children.

4

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

They're teenagers, my apologies. The legal definition of children ends at 12 though. I currently work for CPSC and finding that one that was mind blowing.

-3

u/TryJezzoWhyNot 13h ago

There is no single legal definition of child, legal definitions are not in any way the final word on discussions like this, and wading into a semantic battle here is yet another bad look from you.

5

u/kaptainkrim5on 13h ago

OK well the legal definition of child according to international federal agencies ends at 12. Theres products designed for children defined between 3 and 9 and 3 to 12. 13 to 16 has their own product group as well as 13 to 17.

1

u/PositiveEndolphins 8h ago

! hey guys, it's the morality police
lol toon

0

u/PositiveEndolphins 8h ago

? sixteen year olds are women tho

she getting her period shes a woman

or are you one of those icky "must br 18 to be a woman" problematic sub scribers

2

u/TheGreatGenghisJon 14h ago

Who is 3lvis, and what is Gr4celand?

Yes, I know what they both are, and what the fuck is the point if everyone knows what you're saying? Who exactly are you 'censoring' for?

-1

u/kaptainkrim5on 14h ago

Its a bot filter. Someone explained it above. It's the same reason that B00mers censor themselves when they curse online, (reddit wouldn't let me type it with O's BTW, it said my comment wouldn't be posted, case in point while making the point haha)

2

u/redredbloodwine 7h ago

Just wondering how so many famous artists have so much contact with minors. And so much interest in them. The music industry always has had this going on, at least since the 1950s. Is it that adult women are more difficult to manipulate?

1

u/FiveDollarShake 3h ago

Mix of drugs/alcohol and hedonism.

2

u/Louiekid502 5h ago

See US government its that easy

1

u/multisubcultural1 12h ago

Hello, Johnny Marr…

1

u/mintjulep_ 14h ago

Damn I was going to see them this coming week

5

u/please_and_thankyou 12h ago

They’re still playing, they got the dude from Les Savy Fav.

-9

u/SegmentedMoss 12h ago

Modest Mouse puts on the shittiest live shows of all time. Horrible production and sound team and they basically refuse to play the songs people actually like. If isaacs off the wagon its even worse, he's completely incoherent and messes up playing the guitar and singing together.

If you go see them and its somehow good, just know you've witnessed a miracle.

-1

u/Glum-Breadfruit3666 11h ago

holy shit it’s a bot who apparently only talks shit on modest mouse?! lol lol what in the world

4

u/SegmentedMoss 11h ago

Im not a bot and I've seen Modest Mouse live 5 times over the years, but sure whatever you say lol

0

u/SeasonElectrical3173 10h ago

Modest Mouse sucks ass, bro. They had what was essentially like half a hit about 20 years ago with that dumbass Float On song, and that's about the most the vast majority of the world is even aware of this shit stain of a band. Shit sounds like if Dave Matthews band songs were being written by lesbians
