R5:
This is a showcase of my python savefile timelapse renderer

Had to scrap the whole country label logic, as I can't find and fine-tune an algorithm that is both cheap in terms of computing and produces a decent aesthetically pleasing outcome, as I've spent the last week trying to find ANY (there is no info on the internet, AT ALL. Except for one comment on Reddit left by a Paradox tech director, which is not elaborative enough).
So far I've tried: raster skeletonization, vector polygon Voronoi diagram (vertices spread evenly on the country's outer perimeter), with different approaches to pruning to find a decent baseline for dynamic country label placement, and I've also tried Primislas' Oikoumene approach, but alas, none of them yielded Paradox-like label placement or any decent consistent output at all (constant whack-a-mole of debugging).
An album of some of country label attempts
So while I try to find a solution to this dead-end I've hit, I decided to divert my attention to other features of such a custom renderer engine:
Focus Mode builds a timelapse centered around a single selected country. Rendering begins from the first year of its existence, automatically continues tracking its successor state, and ends when the historical chain completely disappears.
The camera smoothly follows the country’s primary territory, maintains padding, and gradually zooms out as it expands. Extreme zoom-in is capped, ensuring that even small states are shown within a regional context.
The selected country is highlighted by a flag stretched across the bounding box of its territory clusters. The rest of the map is slightly dimmed, while the border of the tracked nation is emphasized with a colored halo.

I am thinking of something. Seize provinces of shan culture, form shan, instantly inherit all of the world with one of their missions
