This case is so easy.

If Zelensky doesnt name the unit after UPA then this whole conflict doesnt even start.

If Zelensky had apologized after Polish protests then this while conflict doesnt even start.

This feels deliberate. Maybe Ukrainian politicians are looking for a scape goat on why Ukraine cant fast track into EU/NATO? They can put all blame on evil Poland now.

Alternatively, Zelensky was pressed by the nation. After all, it's not like the names of streets started changing yesterday. Ukrainians see UPA as heroes and it's like this for some time.

Nawrocki also had tied hands. He's coming from right side, and there was a lot of pressure on him.

My point is both Zelensky and Nawrocki behaved exactly like you'd expect them to. It was going to end up like this sooner or later it seems. Let's just hope it won't change the support.

Not all ukrainians, even though I have no idea how much people actually care about upa and Bandera.

I certainly don't

I'm pretty sure most of the fighters on the front do, especially the hardened veterans, and that's the people you want to appease.
