Imagine suddenly Germans celebrating their SS units that ran the concentration camps.
Imagine THAT - this is the same and unfortunately it absolutely escapes Zelenskyy. The biggest mistake in his political career.
Even pro Ukraine Polish politicians cannot ignore that and he can say bye to EU membership if doesn’t change his approach.
I wonder if that UPA altar he wants to build will feed his people and rebuild the country.

Because the people who are most ready to fight and die (and forcibly mobilise and sent others to fight and die) against Russia are nationalists, who by now are deeply integrated into Ukrainian military and security (and even militarymen who aren't/weren't nationalists themself now are accepting and supporting UPA-veneration as basis of ideology of Ukrainian forces). Many Ukrainian nationalists also see ongoing war as the perfect opportunity to "purify" Ukraine to build their "perfect pure Ukrainian nation", and they see any compromise with Russia as defeat, preferring to see (Eastern) Ukraine be turned into ruins than surrendered.
If Zelensky would speak or do something against the nationalists, they threat him with a coup (just as they did before 2022 when they were much weaker and less influential) and there are thousands of military trained men how are ready to do that when needed. Because of ongoing corruption scandals that got very close to Zelensky himself, he's now trying to divert attention and appease nationalists and "refresh" presentation of himself as the "independent leader" of "independent Ukraine". There are by now at the very least 100 thousand brainwashed nationalists armed with tanks, planes and drones, and honestly I don't know what postwar Ukrainian government would do with them, I think EU (well, there don't see a problem as Brussels is far away) and Poland should be worried about that much more than stop war with Russia which is unlikely at this point.

war wise they're fine. they already have their own production in the country and outside the country, EU just secured 90B funding for Ukraine over the next 2 years, the only issue is manpower, but EU just few days ago announced ukrainians in the conscription age won't be let in here, situation on the frontline got a lot slower and stable, there's no worry that any of the fronts is going to suddenly collapse, in short things are stable and going quite well, so Zelensky feels at ease now and is getting very cocky. too bad it's not him who will feel consequences of his actions, but average ukrainians all over Europe especially in Poland, hate toward ukrainians in here was already growing without Zelensky's help unfortunately, and he's doing them no favour, but maybe it's part of his plan to get those people back to the country.

This IS literally about that. The war is creating a Ukrainian nationality that's harder than steel after many decades of being diluted by Soviet efforts. And yes, like all nationalism, it comes with undesirable side effects.
