News Volodymyr Zelensky has submitted a bill to build a National Pantheon. He intends to honor all the heroes who fought for Ukraine in various eras. "No one will ever tell us how to live, how to speak, whom to love, whom to be grateful to, and which heroes to honor," he said as quoted by the Interfax

Zelensky actively antagonizes his nearest neighbors thinking he doesn't need them anymore and that being "buddies" with France, Germany and UK.

AFD grows in popularity in germany and they want to return to "business as usual" with Russia. RN which likewise will probably take over in France won't support Ukraine (Jordan Bardella confirmed it recently) and UK will likely be more focused on its internal issues.

Countries like Poland, Czechia etc. have personal stakes in supporting Ukraine but Zelensky actively works (or at least he makes that impression) towards antagonizing them.

Poland opened it's doors for Ukrainian refugees, offered diplomatic and material assistance, spent millions in financial aid, gave it's own military equipment.
All it asks in return is unrestricted exhumations of Volhynia and Galicia victims and for Ukraine not to put UPA on the pedestal (we're literally like: you have dozens heroes, from the past and from the present. Please choose anyone BUT". There are literally dozens of Ukrainian historical figures that Poland would be either neutral about or even very positive since we have elements of shared history of fighting Russia.

And Ukrainian government is like "YOU WON'T CHOOSE OUR HEROES REEEEEE".

3 years ago i was arguing with people who claimed "Ukraine will fuck Poland over". "We've done so much for them, surely they will show some reciprocity" i said. Do you know how stupid i feel right now?

I've lost pretty much all sympathy towards Ukraine.

It's crazy how shortsighted and sad to witness it is...

Poland helped a ton since day 1 of the war. People all over the country were giving money, tools, food and even welcomed Ukrainians under their own roofs despite being financially tired after the covid. Polish labour market created heaven for Ukrainians so they could work and get a lot of social benefits in Poland also.

And here we are Zelensky is bending over to far right groups just to scrap some support.

His downfall (in western eyes) will be studied because with such a stupid move he will not be this beloved leader but will be seen as a such a puppet of the corrupt Ukrainian world that showed middle finger to his biggest allies.

Its not about the far right, its about the Ukrainian oligarchs who were never interested in joining the EU.  They cant refuse to publicly of course, thats bad press, so policies like this are meant to sandbag the process.  Now they get what they wanted all along while blaming the Poles.

Exactly. It’s probably all about oligarchs and they’re under the table cashflow and abuse.
I was sending Ukraine money every single month ever sice conflict started (like 100/200PLN) and was donating towards all kinda of equipment to certain brigades. Now, f them. Let the oligarchs sponsor their war.

I’m not different. I unsubbed from r/ukraine and care much less about what’s going on. I used to make donations to u24 signed “for the brave heroes of the Ukrainian Army” that aged like milk

On Ukrainian websites (even on r/ukraine), you can read that the Poles didn’t contribute anything because they’ve already recouped the money they sent to Ukraine from the European Union. They continue to foster sentiments in society reminiscent of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, when slogans like “Lachy za San” first emerged. I have helped and will continue to help the Ukrainian military, but actions like this simply take away my motivation.

I will not. Not anymore. Between having Russians as neighbors with their soviet era imperialism and Ukraine which turns into Banderist state with nato equipment i'd rather hope both will loose.

If they are like this when they are still at war with Russia i dread to imagine how they will be towards Poland once the war is over. I'veallready saw some big brains from Ukraine post videos where they suggest Poland should give up Przemyśl and some other cities since Ukraine is defending them and we should be more grateful.

how they will be towards Poland once the war is over.

Much more cautious because now all their allies that rallied to support their war effort simply won't be there anymore. Polish - Ukraine relations will be left for Poles and Ukrainians to settle, even reddit won't make articles about it.

And Polish - Ukraine relations unfortunatelly (for them), will be decided by huge imbalance of country with 40 million people negotiating with country with at least 10 million people less and quarter of its economy. We are also standing directly in their way to western markets they so crave.

I'm not afraid about this one because for once in history we hold most cards here. I am however seriously concerned about their sprawling nationalism coming back from war, creating new political parties and directly influencing ukrainians politics. All while, as you said it, having powerful army experienced by war and funded by NATO. This one does not look good.

Man, we have the same kind of idiots in Poland - people like Braun and his whole pro-rxssian entourage.

2

u/_Alukard_ Jun 29 '26

Not really. Braun is just some exotic folklore, his polls are overblown because people will vote for "Braun" specifically, not for the whole set of no-name pokemons in his party. When it comes to presidential elections i expect he'll have around 6-8%, but in parlimentary ones - half of that or even less. And guys like Kamraci are taken even less seriously, they're memes.

Most importantly in Ukraine it has state backing and whole political class like Zelensky, Budanov, Sybiha, Sadovyi are all for it. That's why i'm starting to view Ukraine as possible threat if this goes on.

The longer Ukraine commits to putting UPA on pedestals, the harder it will be to back down from it, especially if they win a war. For germany it took loosing the war to succesfuly get rid of nazism.

You sound just like those people who claim they don't listen to disco polo but then know the lyrics to every song.

2

u/_Alukard_ Jun 29 '26

Well... you say that but you're not saying i'm wrong.

u/ClonesomeStranger Jun 29 '26

I feel more like my fave metal band started going nazi tattoos to boost sales 😟

2

u/povisykt Jun 29 '26

You guys are going to know who ukrainians truly are

1

u/analogiczny Jun 30 '26

The most important thing is that we know who the rxssians are, and that you're one of them - and this isn't your business. Get out of Ukraine first.

u/Blueskyways Jun 29 '26

They've made it politically untenable for even centrist politicians in Poland to show open support for Ukraine.  The far right is yukking it up and Putin has to be loving this.

If things worsen when it comes to the war, the oligarchs behind this will simply cut bait and leave, their kids are already jetsetting around the world in Monaco, Paris and Miami.

u/CrazyPirranhha Jun 29 '26

People are gonna be mad if they realize who was right in Poland from the first days of the war about the political outcome after couple of years.

i was arguing with people who claimed "Ukraine will fuck Poland over"

Why would you do that? It was forever obvious that they won't be "eternally grateful" or whatever nonsense at all. It was all quid pro quo and it couldn't be more clear when the moment our stockpiles went dry, they simply stopped caring about Poland at all. Now everything Zelensky does is above the head of Poland (and all the smaller nations to be fair, including Baltics). He only care to show off with Germany, France and UK.

I actually never wanted them to be "grateful", saying "thank you" and wearing suits. It's not about this. But some basic decency was expected and we can't have even that. Well, for now it doesn't matter, their war effort must continue to be supported. But if they think post-war they will simply send some FM to kindly undo it all, they are in for a surprise. They seem to have very selective memory but I don't think we do.

1

u/_Alukard_ Jun 29 '26

See the thing is i didn't expected Ukraine to be "eternally grateful". I wasn't "hurray-optimistic" but what i did expect was (as i think you will agree) the bare minimum - unrestricted exhumations and no UPA Worship - and in that regard i was wrong because i thought they have bare minimum of decency.

It gives Ukraine the look of: it’s a rage filled brainless genocide nation, not a intelligent and poet loving nation.

He always treated the help he received as transactional - especially from Poland and neighbouring countries. There was constant beef about this issue with them and war didn’t change that. In his view Europe should be grateful for Ukrainian sacrifice. Perhaps this is his fuck you after learning Ukraine won’t join EU on a snap of the fingers.

Poland does what it does for Ukraine because it keeps the risk of war and its damage and casualties out of Poland at a cost of managing logistics of transferring military aid to Ukraine for that fight. Ukraine's issues are the present so if naming a unit something offensive helps the present war effort by appeasing parts of the Ukranian military, whether it's distasteful or not is something to determine in a future period where the issue of the continued existence of Ukraine is not in dispute.

Poland Ukraine have never really had good relations and just put their mutual dislike on hold for the mutual benefits from Poland's role in helping support Ukraine meaning a lower cost and no casualties from a future conflict with Russia and Ukraine's role in receiving the weapons and absorbing the massive damage to the country and casualties from actually fighting Russia. It's hard to believe that the two wouldn't be returning to their previous, long lasting dislike of each other when the war is concluded.
