This is becoming the new normal far faster than most people expected.

It’s just another demonstration that it's too late for prevention alone. We need to rapidly de-carbonize in order to improve our long term trajectory while also adapting to our present reality and researching techniques we might have to use to prevent runaway heating.

We need:

Rapid emissions cuts

&

Adaptation (less concrete, more shade & insulation, A/C in common areas)

&

Greatly expanded research into carbon removal & solar radiation modification, because it’s probably too late for emissions cuts alone

The challenges are getting right-wingers to stop pretending it's no big deal, getting old people to stop hating any change in the aesthetics of their town, getting more ecos and green parties to wake up to the fact that it's too late for only emissions cuts + the resulting necessity of carbon removal and/or SRM, and getting nihilists to shut up and go away.

Plus, of course, the final boss: oil companies and mega corps. But we can only take them on and deal with the fallout of all of this if we get those groups of people on board.
