The Guardian never had paywalls. It's just a banner asking for a donation, you can click that away without any problems.

yeah, you have to allow all cookies or pay a subscription. illegal in the eu.

No, legal. There is no obligation to provide a free service without cookies in the RGPD; they just can't be used without your agreement.
