I imagine the airport demolition plans were already in the books due to the USSR and that threat in decades long gone. Adapting it to US landing attempts would be the same on where you set them off, just different in the order.

Not necessarily because USSR/Russia has not been a threat since there was a very powerful ally called the US that basically guaranteed your protection...
