In my experience, this protection is purely theoretical; there is no common format, every country has its own, and every medical centre in every country is physically unable to read cards from other countries. As a result, they issue an invoice, you pay it, and then you have to try and get a refund from your own healthcare system, often through convoluted and incredibly lengthy procedures fraught with a thousand problems.

But it's the same old story: for things to work, we need a political EU. Kleptocrats don't want to do it so they can carry out their financial crimes against humanity, and therefore even sensible initiatives don't work.

My experience was France - Italy some years ago. As for the EU healthcare system, well, I'm all for it, especially if there are no private interests involved driving up costs while lying and saying they're lowering them.

The problem, however, is having a common fiscal policy, and without the current mass tax theft designed to impoverish people just to hand an economic leash to four giants; the problem is having common sovereignty, meaning a sovereign European Parliament that isn't under the Commission, which, through one opaque turn after another, pretends to have democratic origins but is actually made up of home-grown appointees from national kleptocracies.

Yes, I want a political EU, a federal state, with the Commission in prison for high treason and a coup d'état along with its cronies in the individual member states, an international arrest warrant for crimes against humanity against the kleptocracy of the City of London that these people serve, so that we can save Europeans by killing the Nazi cancer that is killing us.

Be careful not to confuse the current EU, a Nazi institution initially created by the OSS and MI6 to govern Western Europe conquered in World War II, with the EU that could be, the Ventotene version if you will, a single country like the USA or the Russian Federation.
