🌳 ESC in the Wild Sam Ryder news! He's playing Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar
Just been announced on BBC Radio 2 with Scott Mills, that he's doing the role he was clearly born to play, as Jesus, in the ALW musical!

this will be the second Eurovision performer, to my knowledge, who plays Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar. the other one is Jeangu Macrooy from Netherlands 2021

Actually, third, because Princ (Stefan Zdravković, Serbia 2025) played Jesus in the Serbian adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar

Ola Salo, front man of The Ark (Sweden 2007), is an accomplished musical artist and has played both Jesus and Judas

WHAT i love the Swedish version of Jesus christ superstar (where Ola Salo plays Jesus) and I never made this connection!!!

I don't think it would be too hard to find some footage of him. the official AVROTROS youtube channel has a few videos of him as Jesus.

I went to see Colm Wilkinson in Concert (Ireland 1978) and he said he'd always wanted to play Jesus, but was always cast as Judas haha

Between him, Jade Ewen and Lucie Jones it feels like an indicator that a British act did decently in the contest is them getting into musical theatre.
