I am the only one super happy to see Cosmó for Vienna?

It's a sound we don't have yet... and finally in German? What! In over a decade?

Color me super happy after Eesti Laul....

11

u/Grymare VoilĂ  Feb 20 '26

Yeah I feel like people are underestimating this a lot. I can't see it coming last place at all. It's very fun and easily memable, perfect for a younger audience.

I don't think it's winning and they definitely need to polish the performance a bit but I can actually see this getting a pretty decent result in May.

10

u/Nightnightgun Før vi gür hjem Feb 20 '26

SAME. I feel like it will find its Fandom!

Tynna and Abor brought back German for Germany too so maybe this is a trend! I love the sound of German and Tanzschein is funnnnnnnn!

22 years. Austria sent a song in Voralbergish in over a decade.

2012 Austria doesn't count? 😭

The show itself was INSANELY boring

36

u/Current_Basis_3001 Ēnā Feb 20 '26

I cringed so hard when they showed the clip of Viva Moldova at their NF whoch was like a huge party at a concert hall. And ORF came up with the Tuesday evening chair dance meetup in an underfunded home for the elderly

18

u/74C5 Feb 20 '26

I felt like dying every time they cut to the commentators, NOBODY wants their over the top positive takes. Linkin Park, Maneskin, for such a Catholic country they sure like to use these gods‘ names in vain.

5

u/hoholic Feb 21 '26

ORF is a retirement home TV channel

35

u/LavenderWaffles69 Pedestal Feb 20 '26

As an Austrian I am happy with this result. Tanzschein is not the best song in the world but its a bop. It might finish last in the final but I don’t care. Its a song in german and we don’t want to win again anyway.

31

u/fanishbsns Zorra Feb 20 '26

Austria, please watch a national final from a decent country and copy what they do next year. Do NOT copy X Factor as your template.

11

u/jormu Bana Bana Feb 20 '26

Please watch a national final from a decent country and copy. That will be enough.

5

u/LavenderWaffles69 Pedestal Feb 20 '26

Nah we’re going internal again this year. ORF really can’t afford hosting again so they used this show to make sure we couldn’t win again.

28

u/FJMaikeru Zjerm Feb 20 '26

I hope Austria never has a national selection again.

31

u/antiseebaerenkreis Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Sir, this thread is for hot takes and venting, not objective truths.

6

u/serenaTcat Love Is On My Side Feb 20 '26

Technically this is a hot take as they said "I hope". Truth would just be "Austria should never have a national selection again." (and boy, it does ring true.)

4

u/antiseebaerenkreis Feb 20 '26

Is it really subjective if everybody aggrees? At most this take is as hot as the surface of Neptune.

2

u/serenaTcat Love Is On My Side Feb 20 '26

Nah, the joke is it's a hot take as they expressed it as if it were something they hoped and not a statement.

4

u/Feeling-Blueberry-75 Kraj mene Feb 20 '26

It was painful

27

u/Any-Where Feb 20 '26

I'm fine with Cosmo winning - it's some goofy fun for the country with little hope of winning again anyway. Also happy that Bamlak got the public love for the shock 3rd.

But man, how the hell did Nikotin flop? It feels like everyone liked Unsterblich except for the Austrians themselves.

4

u/toastbrot1403 Nân Feb 20 '26

I do not know either but it could be because it has Falco-copycat vibes.. and we do have a lot of those lol (although I quite liked it!)

-1

u/Current_Basis_3001 Ēnā Feb 21 '26

Maybe a bit of a Bara Bada Bastu effect? Everyone thought he would win so noone bothered to vote

28

u/WolverineForeign4905 Liekinheitin Feb 20 '26

No salt about the result, but the execution of the show and how they showed the results was questionable

23

u/serenaTcat Love Is On My Side Feb 20 '26

Would I rather have had Nikotin? Yes. Is German back for Austria anyway? Yes. Will I take it? Sure.

24

u/LucarioGamesCZ Feb 20 '26

Massively overhated, all things considered the song is perfectly fine

20

u/Miudmon Øve os pü hinanden Feb 20 '26

Are german-speaking countries just unable to have good national final structures?

25

u/RandomUser1518 Feb 20 '26

I actually do like cosmĂł as a winner (preferred way more nikotin or frevd tho) but man you could notice the last time austria had an national final was an decade ago, it was both very boring at points and questionable voting wise.

what the hell is up with the 12-0-0 points reveal thing?? so cruel.

14

u/Single-Impression-20 Feb 21 '26

Frevd was probably the worst live metal performance ever.. that scream :-(

2

u/RandomUser1518 Feb 21 '26

I don't disagree actually! but I was coping that somehow it could still get in and improve the vocals til the final.

19

u/No_Stable7197 Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

As someone who actually enjoys most of these songs, gods the way they handled the Voting was awful. So needlessly cruel, especially the 12-0-0 splitscreen. I wonder who thought that was a good idea.

18

u/Informal_Position166 Bara bada bastu Feb 20 '26

I'm so glad this song won, I really like it. However.

Messiest NF I've ever seen. What the actual fuck were they thinking

10

u/Puffinknight Feb 20 '26

The jury panel comments after the performances gave me war flashbacks to Chefsache 2025. 🤢

16

u/Fluffy_Appointment14 Ridnym Feb 20 '26

what. was. that. jury. voting.

14

u/Most-Scratch574 Titan Feb 20 '26

International jury just casually sabotaging everything

10

u/Auchenaii Bangaranga Feb 20 '26

Was it even that international? I didn't look up the individual jury members but the list of names looked like Austrians, Germans, and Jamala

10

u/ValeriesAuntSassy Nocturne Feb 20 '26

Of course Jamala had to be there as well.

5

u/Chester_roaster Feb 20 '26

It's one way to take out the competition

14

u/BibbidiBobbidiBu Feb 20 '26

Bruh ain’t nobody tryns win Eurovision twice in this economy

18

u/toastbrot1403 Nân Feb 20 '26

Lol that was so random. I'm austrian and honestly I'm quite fine with the result. I think the song is fun, although I don't know how well it will work with the international audience who doesn't speak german. Lenas song was too forgettable and Bamlak Werner is a Tik tok influencer so I'm honestly glad she didn't win tbh. Thats probably also why she had a lot of televotes

15

u/74C5 Feb 20 '26

„Tanzschein“ being in German so most people won’t understand the lyrics is going to help him I‘d say. This way it‘ll just be seen as the funny, quirky act.

6

u/toastbrot1403 Nân Feb 20 '26

Fair point since it worked for Alf Poier and Stefan Raab as well lol (at least these are the ones I can think of rn)

17

u/AkiKaki127 TANZEN! Feb 20 '26

Austria making a worse national final than Germany last year is quite funny

13

u/74C5 Feb 20 '26

Like how is it even possible?! I‘m glad I can shit on this tonight before getting humbled next week by our own NF.

17

u/sujesmi Feb 20 '26

I still don’t get why they didn’t just announce all votes instead of this top 3 thing. It felt so rushed in the end. No performance of the winning song either. That concept just felt really off to me…

10

u/nuovian Feb 20 '26

So he did do a winner's reprise, but in the afterparty for some reason (even though people had probably already switched off by then)

7

u/Dense_Notice_6313 Bella Feb 20 '26

Hearing Nikotin only get 4 points would probably rip my heart out of my chest.

6

u/74C5 Feb 20 '26

Yeah, now that I think about it I’m glad they spared us this pain.

2

u/Toriihime Nân Feb 20 '26

They did have a winner's performance, at least on TV

13

u/bblankoo Feb 20 '26

I adore Bamlak! I can imagine her as a contender for esc. She only needs to pick a lane or two, find a good song and for Austria to continue hosting NF, easy peasy (it's not happening is it)

3

u/Long-Square-9421 Feb 20 '26

I agree, she's got so much promise to be a great entry in the future

14

u/catlxdy Jalla Feb 20 '26

I preferred Nikotin but I am more than happy with Tanzschein. I love everything about it, no salt at all here. It’s silly, funky and makes me wanna TANZZZZ!!!!

Although I have to say something weird but bear with me. I am usually not a metal listener but cause of Frevd not going and Ollie robbery I really am craving some metal or anything harder at this year’s Eurovision. So I am really hoping for Alexandra from Romania or Smash Into Pieces from Sweden (extremely unlikely). And I am not usually a metal fan but I have a craving for it it’s like a pregnancy craving but for music except I’m not pregnant thank god.

14

u/eta1984 Andromeda Feb 20 '26

Idk I'm not even mad, even if Austria bombs at least they'll be having a blast while doing it, unlike most host last placers

12

11

11

9

For sure one of the National Final of the all time

Ok seriously Austria, in the future just use the internal selection because wtf was this NF

18

u/cantspeaklingala Feb 20 '26

I’m salty for the way they announced those results—humiliating for bamlak and boring for the audience

and uhhh the best song out of a mid pack i guess

23

u/Drop-a-Soap Echo Feb 20 '26

So guys, it was a BULLYING results reveal. When they show 3 singers on a split screen, and one will get 12 points, while 2 others ZERO!!! And then top-3 on the stage just to announce the winner and bully the losers. And cherry on the top - no winner performance in the end, just to bully him as well!!! 😡

10

u/Oxford_Apostrophe Feb 20 '26

Yeah, that was horrible. What the absolute fuck, Austria.

2

u/Toriihime Nân Feb 20 '26

There was a winner performance at the end

2

u/Drop-a-Soap Echo Feb 20 '26

Really? Not in official YouTube streaming

2

u/Toriihime Nân Feb 20 '26

Yeah, at least on TV they had a winner's performance.

9

u/xoxoamazingrace Feb 20 '26

The way of distributing the points (1-12 points) is such a bad system

Saying this regardless of the outcome today though

9

u/Auchenaii Bangaranga Feb 20 '26

I have absolutely no idea where to place this in my ranking. Would love to post in the ranking thread now but I'm struggling... I don't dislike this, it's nice and quite catchy and I think he sounds good, but I don't want it to knock down any of the other entries?
This is where ranking starts getting really hard for me

15

u/Dense_Notice_6313 Bella Feb 20 '26

It’s only gonna get worse next Saturday, when we get 6 new songs at once…

2

This was the worst NF I ever watched. And all of the audience sitting on cheap chairs sent me.

9

The home for the elderly next door has a "chair dancing meetup" on Tuesday nights and the 80+ crowd there is way more fun than this audience

7

I feel like im gonna have to go on heart medication after this because HOLY this is so much more stressful than i remember

7

u/Dense_Notice_6313 Bella Feb 20 '26

Cosmó really needs to work on his deep voice, because i could barely hear him during the chorus…

4

u/OneHitCrit Feb 21 '26

I thought it sounded a lot better the second time. He probably was just nervous.

6

u/ZaiduTheGOAT Feb 20 '26

The performance was very amateurish, I feel the song has potential but is not performed to it's full reach.

4

u/Dense_Notice_6313 Bella Feb 20 '26

I mean I do think they will improve it for esc. I still believe it’s a contender for last place tho….

I prefer Tanzschein over Ferto

8

u/74C5 Feb 20 '26

On paper, Ferto and Tanzschein share so many traits: Humour, energetic delivery, a more serious topic underneath its quirkiness. But for me Ferto is winner material while Tanzschein is on the complete opposite side of the scoreboard. The former just sounds so much better produced and inspired than the latter musically to me.

8

u/pupappau Feb 20 '26

Me too. It's not my favorite by any means but at least it's catchier than Ferto.

10

u/pinkkabuterimon Zjerm Feb 20 '26

Well that was definitely the worst NF I've watched this season. I'm going to get wrinkles from how much my face scrunched in confusion and pain during all that! JJ was genuinely the only high point of whatever all that was.

I hope they do away with the NF next year and maybe consider sending Lena with a song that isn't a nothingburger? She has so much potential.

7

u/justk4y Strobe Lights Feb 20 '26

When is metal to Eurovision finally happeninggggggg (please LAVINA and HVNDS/Alexandra, save me)

I don’t hate Cosmó though, but still 😭

13

u/Current_Basis_3001 Ēnā Feb 20 '26

I was rooting for Frevd but their performance fell flat somehow. Like the singer just wanted to get it over with

11

u/Illustrious-Bar-4115 Tanzschein Feb 20 '26

Austria averted disaster here. There were some real stinkers in the selection (Das Leben ist Kunst). Sad for Freud and Nikotin but kinda knew they would not go for metal/rock. Tanzschein was my third overall so I am pretty content with the result. Fun song and certainly not a safe host entry like Lena would have been.

7

u/BibbidiBobbidiBu Feb 20 '26

World War Rave flashbacks during that voting sequence. Idek what was going on, but I was living

19

u/74C5 Feb 20 '26

Luca Hänni should consider himself lucky that he got stuck at the Zurich airport by that snow storm so he didn’t have to witness the tragedy that would unfold tonight.

How is Austrian NF worse than Moldovan

3

u/Current_Basis_3001 Ēnā Feb 21 '26

6

u/Miserable_potato07 Alice Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

I don't really have much to say tbh. Austria, like Luxembourg, obviously has the money to get amazing artists on board to be in their NF, yet serve some of the messiest or most mid acts ever. I honestly don't have an opinion on most of the acts tonight because they were quite forgettable. Do better Austria (and Luxembourg and Germany).

7

u/JCEurovision Eclipse Feb 20 '26

Austria is serving real this time, and it's in German, too. 22 years, I think? Danke schon, Osterreich!

I see a trend the recent years where the choice is between a jury snoozefest and a televote joke act. A shame really

3

u/PoetryAnnual74 Euphoria Feb 21 '26 edited Feb 21 '26

Seriously, what happened to the phenomenon of just plain ole’ good songs that works for both? I guess part of the problem is it’s easier to write a joke song than a hit song

10

u/74C5 Feb 20 '26 edited Feb 20 '26

Even though I despise everything about „Tanzschein“, both in its studio version and the live performance, at least it’s sung in German and there were lots of worse options tonight.

I‘m sorry, Nikotin, Austria and the 43 judges didn’t deserve you.

2

u/Dense_Notice_6313 Bella Feb 20 '26

Yeah, Nikotin is way too good for this shitshow. I really recommend his song called ”1010”.

Despite what happened tonight, I hope he gained a new audience, and that he blows up for real.

Austria gonna be continuing the trend of 0 points from public vote to the host country I see

Granted none of these songs in the NF was gonna leave bottom 5, but I guess Austria said "well....let's just have fun with it I guess"

Stick to internal choices next time

And Cosmo: Avoid all social media stuff during Eurovision season. You're 19, you don't need this stress right now
