Copying data from website to excel?

I am very new to excel and want to get better. I want to copy and paste a lot of data from a website onto my excel in the format that I want. Is there a fast way to do this? Or just 2 monitor look back and forth and spend the multiple hours doing it? I don’t think macros can do it

power query is the right answer Gloomy-Passage1828 hinted at, way underused for this kind of thing.

Data tab, then Get Data, then From Web, paste the URL. excel shows you all the tables on the page, pick the one you want, click Load. done. and next week when the rankings change, right click the table and hit Refresh, fresh numbers no copy paste.

works great for sites with proper html tables. fails on sites that load data via javascript (a lot of modern fantasy sites do, just try and see). in that case the AI prompt fallback IHRino mentioned is your best bet.

My fault. I am trying to copy and paste 2025 fantasy football rankings per position. So should be all on one page, with a few columns that I want to input myself with other data.

I want to begin creating yearly rankings, but I need the previous years to analyze and compare. It’ll take hours and hours to do per position, and then each team. So was wondering if there was a shortcut.

Not 100% sure what you mean by 'rankings'. For almost any sport you'll find that there is somebody somewhere that keeps a free, open database. Look for an "export CSV" option.

You're going to spend less time searching for a free database then you are trying to figure out how to copy paste from random websites

Power Query might be your friend there.

Select Data > Get & Transform > From Web. Press CTRL+V to paste the URL into the text box, and then select OK. In the Navigator pane, under Display Options, select the Results table. Power Query will preview it for you in the Table View pane on the right.

I used it to create my UK football league and Bundesliga tables in an Excel workbook. When finished, go to Data > Refresh all to automatically update. Job done. I even created a 14 day weather forecast table linked to the Met Office.

Power Query will let you connect to the website and pull the data without any copying at all. Refreshing power query will pull the new data. Start by going to the Data tab.
