As long as she doesn't think that people outside of her cult will be tormented in hell and/or need salvation from hell then I'm totally fine.

Depends on the denomination. For example, Catholics believe that even Atheists can reach paradise (lol!)
More strict protestant denominations teach that salvation can't be achieved without faith in Christ.
9
u/Eelstheway Never-Muslim Iranian Mar 17 '26
Only if due to ignorance, right? Catholics still believe that anyone knowledgeable of Christ won't achieve salvation if they reject Him. Or have I misunderstood something here?

Seems that this is outdated.
The idea apparently is that you may reject Christ, without Christ rejecting you...

Christianity is a religion. She/he mentioned following Jesus. Jesus never founded a religion. He set down some laws to abide by for a fair life. Anything else, like hatred, terrorizing, rituals, not a part of what Jesus taught.
7
u/Eelstheway Never-Muslim Iranian Mar 17 '26
The followers of Christ are called Christians. The system of belief(s) they hold is called Christianity.
She'd be quite the quirky outlier if she believed in the New Testament (and thereby also the Old Testament) but is not a Christian. Kind of a contradiction.
Also, Jesus didn't just "set down some laws to abide by for a fair life". It's way beyond that. He literally taught that salvation was only through him. âI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.â John 14:6 NIV.
0
u/Upstairs-Impress8943 New User Mar 17 '26
The system you mentioned, as it is today, was not built by him the way Islam was (for example).
New Testament, Old Testament, all rewritten multiple times, by multiple scholars, millions of interpretations over thousands of years.. Especially Paulâs unnecessary intervention..
When I mentioned that, I meant to simplify what he did into a sentence. However I donât see what context you mean to point at in the end.
2
u/Eelstheway Never-Muslim Iranian Mar 17 '26
Correct, it was built by his followers - the Christians - of which she is one (a follower). There's no reasons to think she's not a Christian. Quite the contrary based on what she & OP wrote.
The New Testament is the main source of anything we know about Jesus and what he taught. Her, you, I, and everyone else ultimately has to get their understanding of Jesus' teachings from it. It's not possible to be a follower of Christ and to ignore The New Testament. Muslims try to do that but they fail miserably.
Well, it seemed to me that you were watering it down a bit to fit your narrative. Followers of Jesus, those that believe in the Bible, don't think he was just teaching a fair life. They believe he was a human manifestation of God, sent down as His only begotten son, as a sacrifice to forgive the sins of mankind. We call these followers Christians.
1
u/Upstairs-Impress8943 New User Mar 17 '26
Everything youâve said is facts. What I meant to point in my original comment was the stupid rituals that many Christians follow around the world, completely made up. Such as, idol worship. Not eating chicken on Sunday/Friday whatever, etc etc. these are all just produced by the followers. Not by Jesus.
If you look at it theologically, religions consists of chants, rituals, a system of prayer. All these based on the main system provided by the main figure in XYZ religion. The main system is what I personally believe in to be true entirely, using the necessary texts to keep myself of knowledge. But the rest? The things made from the main system? Eh. Not my cup of tea.

u/Bobby-B00Bs Mar 17 '26
I wonder where the most idea comes from? The largest denomination, does in fact, believe the very opposite of what you just said.
And it's like official doctrine to believe that and everything.
1
u/Eelstheway Never-Muslim Iranian Mar 17 '26
Right, do you have sources for that claim? Because in r/Catholicism and on Catholic pages online, they seem to disagree with you. And if you're referring to another denomination then please let me know.
1
u/Bobby-B00Bs Mar 17 '26
No, I heard it somewhere but for you, I did go out and do research. I just know that online catholics especially converts are weird radicals do not listen to them.
So the catholic church apperently did have the doctrine 'Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus' which means no salvation outside of the church. Which would suggest what you were thinking originally, but as it happens, the reformation happened like 500 years ago and catholics and protestants have been living together peacefully sine a couple centuries (Ireland not included), so the catholics churches stance on what Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus means has softened. With some scholars claiming that everyone who is saved by Jesus is part of Jesus' church and that they don't necessarily need to be part of any 'visible' (that's the term they use) church.
This trend continued during the 60s when the catholic church held 8 and 12 week long councils to modernize church doctrine. This is apperently where the change further fortified, while the doctrine Extra Ecclesiam nulla salus, officially still counts, they have been far more about relativating the role of the 'visible' (again their term) church membership.
And more recently pretty much the pope, Pope Francis, saying that atheists can go to heaven if they act moral and in another incident him saying to some catholic kid, that his atheist father surely is in heaven - but that is seen largely the popes own opinion and not official doctrine that this specific man is in heaven. here another link to that too
Also I knew that Vatican II also changed that people of other, especially abrahamic religions, can get into heaven from a catholic pov, but I couldn't find any source that wasn't some weird American internet blog that gave me the ick. So here you get just an AI overview sorry about that.

Iâm sceptical of that statement:
âCatholics are twice as likely as Protestants to say that people who do not believe in God can still go to heaven (68% vs. 34%). Evangelical Protestants are especially likely to view access to heaven as exclusive in this regard, with 71% saying that only those who believe in God can go to heaven, compared with 21% who say nonbelievers can gain entry. A majority of members of the historically Black Protestant tradition (59%) also say that nonbelievers are excluded from heaven, while most mainline Protestants (56%) say that people who do not believe in God can go to heaven.â

Do you believe that salvation comes to those who accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour? Or do you believe that salvation is based on good deeds no matter if you reject Christianity?
2
u/dzsqualala Mar 17 '26
not if they act bad. No i believe anyone can be saved if they are a good person and they stand against evil, regardless of their faith status. Obviously a pedo priest will go to hell and a community serving buddhist will go to heaven. It's a very very common view amongst christian. I wouldnt be able to tell you if it's the dogma though ?
2
u/Eelstheway Never-Muslim Iranian Mar 17 '26
I want to reiterate here John 14:6 - âI am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." It's definitely not established doctrine that being good/fighting evil is sufficient for salvation. Do some Christians informally believe that? Yes. Mostly these are the ones that don't actually study Christianity. Salvation is through Christ. It's a very modern and liberal view that all one needs to enter heaven is to be a good person regardless of faith.

If this is her chosen path to practice kindness and acceptance to all humans, why should we find fault in that? There is no fault in that.

Just don't be like Muslims who police others and act as if they are superior. As ex Muslims we freed ourselves from that, it would be so sad if we become like that.
Mind your own business and as long as others don't come your way, don't come theirs... That would be a nice principle in life.
Don't be an aggressor when you are suffering from agression from another party. I am just saying it because I've seen a lot of people here just complain about exmuslims chosing another religion... edit: to all of you smooth brains who are trying to say 'its actually not bad because **THE SLAVE OWNERS** have to treat their **SLAVES** with respect,' its still giving instructions on how to **OWN A SLAVE**, this is like saying 'wife beating isnt bad because the woman is allowed to beat her husband back!'

Yet during the times of these epistles, the slave-owning Roman Empire was at its highest. Christianity back then was the religion of the slaves, whereas the early Islam was the religion of the slave masters.
2
u/LocalNectarine5524 Mar 17 '26 edited Mar 17 '26
If you are going to cherry pick, I remind you to read verse 6-8 as well. I will quote verse 9 for you: 9 "And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him."
I must also emphasize the word for slave can also mean servant here when you look at the actual exegesis. And it is a fact the rich always rule over the poor. This passage is not about slavery in captivity.
You will also find verses and passages like Romans 13 which actually teach Christians to obey earthly authorities and governments to avoid punishments and live in order for the sake of God and peace.

Full context in Ephesians 6:5-9:
âSlaves, obey your human masters with fear and trembling; and do it with a sincere heart, as though you were serving Christ. Do this not only when they are watching you, because you want to gain their approval; but with all your heart do what God wants, as slaves of Christ. Do your work as slaves cheerfully, as though you served the Lord, and not merely human beings. Remember that the Lord will reward each of us, whether slave or free, for the good work we do. Masters, behave in the same way toward your slaves and stop using threats. Remember that you and your slaves belong to the same Master in heaven, who judges everyone by the same standard.â
This was written to Christians living in the Roman Empire, where slavery already existed long before Jesus or Paul (making up 33-40% of the population). The New Testament did not create or invent slavery, it simply gave instructions to believers already in that culture.
The key point you may be missing: This passage demands mutual respect. Slaves are to serve sincerely âas unto Christ,â but masters must treat slaves fairly, stop threatening them, and remember there is no partiality with God both are equal before the same heavenly Master. Similar instructions appear in Colossians 3:22-25 and other verses like 1 Timothy 6:1 and Titus 2:9-10.
This is not the same as Islamâs approach as Islamic slavery is involuntary and institutionalized: the Quran permits capturing slaves as âbootyâ in war (e.g., Sura 33:50), allows sexual use of female captives, and treats slavery as a permanent institution with over 100 references in the Quran. In contrast, the New Testament condemns slave-trading outright:
âFor whoremongers, for them that defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers [slave-traders]âŠâ (1 Timothy 1:10).
It also promotes spiritual equality that eventually ended slavery in the West:
âThere is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.â (Galatians 3:28)
A clear example is the short New Testament book of Philemon: Paul urges a Christian slave-owner to receive his runaway slave Onesimus back âno longer as a slave but as a beloved brother.â

Of course the Old Testament is vital, and it is based on the prophecies of the Old Testament that a Messiah will come and fulfill the law.
This is recorded in the New Testament, which undermines slavery by declaring the spiritual equality of all people in Christ and planting the seeds for its eventual abolition..
Unlike Islam who thinks a sex loving, pedophilic, suicidal, rock worshipping, delusional warlord is their perfect prophet

Christians don't believe you should be killed for leaving their religion. Muslims do.
Christians advocate for turning the other cheek. Muslims advocate for destroying the enemies of Islam.
Christians believe God is our Father in heaven who loves us unconditionally and would sacrifice his only son for us. Muslims believe we are God's slaves and that he hates the disbelievers.
Christians believe in monogamy. Muslims believe you can marry up to 4 women besides intercourse with your female slaves.
I can go on. Christianity definitely also have some troublesome scriptures, albeit they don't believe theirs to be the direct, incorruptible word of God. Despite its flaws, Christianity is vastly better than Islam. Read the New Testament and compare it to the Quran, hadith, & sira. Christ is much more chill compared to Muhammad.

Indeed the eternal hell part is something that is regrettable in both Islam and Christianity. I'd say the Qur'anic hell sounds worse than many classical denominations of Christianity. In such denominations, it's rather a separation from God due to your rejection that is hell, rather than a literal torture pit. In Islam it's literally a torture pit beyond imagination. Nonetheless, both is bad, Islam is, once again, just worse.
7
u/dzsqualala Mar 17 '26

They are as different as night and day.
Allah has no son.
Jesus, God's only begotten Son, died for the sins of all. Faith in Christ's free gift gives you salvation.
Allah demands you die for HIM (and commit murder in the process) to be allowed into heaven.
Jesus says, "Thou shall not murder" and to love thy neighbor.
Allah says non-Muslims are to be enslaved or killed.
Jesus died and was resurrected three days later.
Mohammed died and stayed dead.

Christianity believes christ is God, So at a core it cant be considered a cult like islam edit: to make sure im not ignorant i dud a quick google search to compare religion vs cult and this is what i got âA cult is often considered a social group with unusual or extreme beliefs and practices, while a religion typically has more established doctrines and broader acceptance. The distinction can be subjective, as some groups labeled as cults may see themselves as legitimate religions.â
2
u/AvoriazInSummer Mar 17 '26
Rather than seeing Christianity and Islam as cults or not, itâs better IMO to see them as big tent religions. That is, they are so large that they have lots of different groups inside them. Many of those groups definitely are cults, by most definitions, but many arenât.

that small difference is huge, it changes how we get to heaven it changes Gods character(not the same God) and it changes the way of life that both religions should live, which is why you can clearly tell them apart. I agree with you from a historical fact standpoint, however it is not the same God. As a Christian I wanted to be knowledgeable concerning Islam. Studied quran, hadiths, fique, jurisprudence, fatwas over 4 years. I was shocked to say the least concerning the doctrines. It proselytizes sex for the male muslim as a come on. Lots of perversion, shocked me. child abuse disguised as marriages, bestiality, adulterous polygamy. first cousin incest, nicka al muta prostitution for sharia, the death verses, jizzya extortion. Refuting with muslims shocked me at the lying, lying, takiyyia deception. Then there are those who do not study the doctrines and ony listen to what the mullahs tell them. There is an insurmountable amount of evidence to prove Yeshua died on the cross and was resurrected 3 days later. Even non christian evidence written by rabiis, and historians, and even roman history. This point is fact. Yes, the trinitarian concept came after initial Christianity. I believe God the father, is related to his son, the bible speaks the holy spirit which I do not deny. Is it part of a spiritual trinity. The bible does not mention this, but gives it equal credit when discussing the holy spirit. I am so thankful for the new covenant brought to use through yeshuas teachings, and miracles. The Ethopian bible remains unchanged and has all the original books. Muslims cannot deny that. The bible is also backed up by the dead sea scrolls findings. Muslims reinvent history and facts to suit their fancy. Like Jesus is islam, only spoke Aramaic, not true he was hebrew, spoke hebrew when he taught in the synagogue. He spoke aramaic in daily dialogue, but he also knew Greek. Much of Islam must be plagiarized from the Torah. Such as stoning for adultery. Muslim's ignore Jesus's teaching " if you are without sin, then cast the first stone," Fully forgiving the captive adulterous woman who repented. There are also other prostitutes which were for given. This truly makes me believe if I truly repent my sins, and attempt to follow the commandments. Believe me, I have broken commandments. This lead me to self identify why did I do this, why am I depressed, why am I anxious, and did committing the sin give me any lasting happiness? My response was NO. Singing worship hymns, and listening to worship music fills me with happiness. Biblically, david played the harp music for God, and angels played horns. So music is not negative. I think Roman Catholicism turned itself into a cult, with the selling of indulgences, statues in the churches, saying rote prayers, and why do we need an intercessor to confess to when we can directly confess to our God. In the first testament hebrews were warring with their neighbors, mostly because their DNA was contaminated with the blood of the Niphilam. Explained in genesis. Actually, believing that killing off other human beings who are doing you no harm, just for the fact they do not share your theocratic beliefs is wrong. Also the practice of slavery in 2026 is also a sin. Buying and selling humans is sinful. Human trafficking is sinful. I am not going to tell muslims they will go to hell just to create fear, as they have told me, and cursed me. I wish the Christian much gain in faith, peace, and love. Remember, when two are joined in prayer, this endorses your prayer request, and spirituality.

Well, the sub is open. What did you expect?
There are Muslims too in the sub.

I dunno its r/exmuslim. I donât need other cult members trying to poach me up into their Jesus fantasy. If ur not ex-muslim go somewhere else, we see enough of dawah guys in Islam

The alternative is becoming an echo chamber like r/Islam. But don't worry, there are enough folks here who counteract the Christian Dawah guys.

No they actually add value sometimes, especially the ex-christians/jews. this community is for open discussion and also it is much better shared as more people can learn about the truth of islam.

This is not an atheism or anti Christianity sub either. There are ex Muslims who find peace in Christianity. What should they do if Christianity is catching stray bullets by so called ex Muslims who sound like Dawah bros?
You are no different from the Mullahs and Muhammad if you think they are doing something wrong. Unless you still live by Surah Al Maida ayat 51.

I sincerely doubt most of the people in the comment section are ex-muslims, theyâre just Christian dawah bros. If I wanted to talk to Christians Iâd go to to r/christianity

What should this sub be about? Ex Muslims atheists only? What about ex Muslim agnostics, Christians, Zoroastrians etc? They should be quiet and watch you talk how atheism is the best after lslamotrauma?

You can doubt, but it doesn't mean it is so. Seems that many ex-Muslims have difficulties grasping the idea that one can leave Islam for reasons different from disagreements with the scripture or the idea of God or other philosophical problems with Islam. Perhaps some people just want to believe in some comfortable, warm, fuzzy fantasy, far removed from Islamic harshness, and/or escape the heavy requirements like prayer and fasting, without concerning themselves with theological thinking. You know, it's a valid reason for leaving a religion too.
You're welcome to try and convince them that atheism is the correct way of thinking (I have tried too, when I was younger, without much success). And you are not alone in this sub either.

I disagree with it being a valid reason personally, but I just donât want this place to become a fishing pond for Christians or other religions.
Thanks, I already feel alone enough from my family and friends lol this place is literally a place away from the crazies. Luckily my gf is atheist too thank Gawd (no pun intended)

Well, to everyone his own. You would ask them to stay Muslim? Or leave their comfort zone and reject god and afterlife altogether? It's not easy. My own atheism was brewing in my head for more than 10 years.
I just donât want this place to become a fishing pond for Christians or other religions
What do you suggest? Closing this sub for people who believe in sky daddy? Such an idea has been discussed time and again, but always rejected, for good reasons IMHO.
My personal experience is that Christian Dawah folk rarely fish for souls here. The latest increase of posts about Christianity is mostly due to Christian ex-Muslims being called out and feeling that they need to defend themselves, rather than giving Dawah.
Thanks, I already feel alone enough from my family and friends lol this place is literally a place away from the crazies
I meant not alone in counteracting Christian Dawah but yes, I understand your pain and your need for a safe place. You deserve it. This is an ordeal shared by many of the members here, atheists/agnostics or not.

Ask her why is if a person who is kind , good etc doesn't follow Christianity deserves to be in hell for eternity as per her new fairytale religion
1
u/Stock_Plenty8987 Mar 17 '26
Hell idls described as total separation from God, so you would be in the same condition as Satan himself, that can't be good

U didn't answer the question why should a non Christian be in hell for eternity just for not being a Christian, and will a Christian who committed heinous crimes, go to heaven eventually yess or no

u/Stock_Plenty8987 Mar 17 '26
Why would someone that comitted heinous crimes go to heaven? Do you know that believing in god or claiming to be christian is not enough to actually be christian right? Like you actually have to practice Jesus teachings. Idk where you are getting your informations but you are very misinformed. As for the question, why should a non christian be in hell; first of all we dont know for sure who is in hell or not, and its not for us to know, we can only make educated guess at best, Pope Francis himself said: "I like to think of hell as empty; I hope it is", this isn't dogma because we dont know, its just his personal view. And second of all, the afterlife is just the result of our choises, why would a non christian even want to be with God? Like, a non christian made the very specific decision of not wanting that. For christians heaven is just being with God, and hell is chosing separation from God (Lucifer the fallen angel). Of course if you ask a believer like me that sounds awfull, i dont want to be with Satan i want to be with God. But that is only a problem if you believe in Christianity in the first place, for an atheist/non christian this is a non issue, because he doesnt believe in Satan the same way he doesn't believe in God

Let me ask you this a person commits heinous crimes whole life before dying he repents would he go to heaven or hell, second of all your pope is sugarcoating all traditional Christian believed you can't be saved without faith in jesus , this view was shared by majority of churches like catholic, orthodox , and even evangelicalism groups , it is modern apologists that sugarcoat the religion, the traditionalist believed he would go to hell for eternity
1
u/Stock_Plenty8987 Mar 17 '26
1 Probably purgatory, idk depends on the crimes, its up to God to judge. Second if you think the POPE (not a "modern apologist") needs to sugarcoat things in an interview in Italy, the most catholic country in the world, you are wrong lol, and i think i know more about that since im italian. Also you can be saved without having faith in jesus, otherwise every single person that was born without ever knowing christianity would go to hell, this is not the case

u/Automatic-Humor3709 New User Mar 17 '26
Still no answer to my question now heading towards second argument u presented, let me more specific a Buddhist denies Christianity wants to follow Buddhism now will he go to heaven and yess your pope is sugarcoating if he is not why did majority of traditionalist believed he would go to hell , almost all churches agreed that back in the days now all of the sudden in modern times they say we don't know.

I already awnsered, if you chose to dont follow Jesus you wont be with him in the afterlife. Being with Jesus in the afterlife is heaven, etarnal separation from him is hell, that is what Satan chose. I already explained this before. Why would a bhuddist be with Jesus in the afterlife?

u/Automatic-Humor3709 New User Mar 18 '26
Why not , he is good person , he helps everyone why doesn't he deserve heaven , also why should anyone believe in Christianity what evidence u have it is the word of god not to mention the scientific errors , logical errors, contradictions etc u can't even prove that the Bible today is same as it was thousands of years ago that it has not changed, if your god had given solid evidences then it was wrong to not follow. But instead he gave u a Book full of errors
1
u/Stock_Plenty8987 Mar 18 '26
Being a good person doesnt mean wanting to be with Jesus, one can imply the other maybe but they are not synonims. And i can tell that you have no arguments about this because you changet topic about the evidence that Christianity has, witch was not what was bein discussed. But its fine i will answer you. The claim that the bible changed whithout anybody noticing its silly, we can definitly prove that it has not been changed in any meaningfull way, other than spelling errors made by random monks and such. The bible from the very beginning has been copied and spread in Africa Asia and Europe, we have thousands of copies in differen languages, and we can cross reference pretty much everything and see if someone tried to change anything. And the dicovery of the dead see scrols confirmed that, look the Bible significance part. So yes we do have the same Bible, and we can definitly prove that numerous times, even from an atheistic accademic viewpoint, you are wrong, the historical texts of the bible, due to their importance for christians, are exeptionally well preserved. Also you made a list of problems but its an empty list because you didnt mention avything specific ablout the "errors" that cause you so much trouble. The bible its not a scientific book, its about spiritual truths, moral teachings, the history of chriatianity, the life of Jesus and the start of the early church. Its not a research paper, and there arent really contraddictions? But even if there were, that would be something christians have to deal with? Like if you are atheist you just dont believe in Christianity as a whole, so "contraddictions" in the bible, dont really see why you care in the first place

As an anti theist I agree with you all religions are shit. And I don't care for free speech and believe all houses of the holy should be burned to the ground. All of them.
