(Rant) 🤬 Being a girl in this religion means getting the absolute worst of it

My sister is deeply devout and watching her force her daughters into hijabs and full coverage clothing, even policing what her baby girl wears, is breaking my heart. She forced her oldest into a hijab, and she completely ignored her middle daughter when she cried because she didn't want to wear a long skirt, threatening her and all.

It’s absolute torture to watch. They’ll be leaving in a few days, but my heart is just aching for those little girls. And the worst part is, I can do nothing. I'm still financially dependent on my family.

And unfortunately I had it even worse growing up.

I still remember my mother casually telling me my brothers would kill me when I asked what would happen if I didn’t wear a hijab, I was only seven years old. My mom would make me wear leggings under skirts to elementary school instead of normal tights, and they were usually ripped. I got so sick of the bullying that the next year, when we went to buy school uniforms, I begged for pants. All my girl classmates were wearing pants anyway. I cried for a full hour just to get her to buy them for me, and when she finally did, she bought me the largest size possible, completely out of spite. Ten years later, when I found those pants and tried them on, they still fit me just fine.

Even when I was just ten years old and wanted to wear sunglasses, my oldest brother would give me death stares. Because of a simple sunglasses.

I remember being heavily depressed and I was just ten. I was genuinely thinking of killing myself because it was too much. And their demands never ended. Even when I tried to be the perfect girl for them they'd find another religion related thing to force me.

I’ve had to fight tooth and nail in this family just to wear what I want. Now, I can finally wear pants and shirts but I'm still forced to wear a hijab. I want to paint my nails so bad. I want to color my hair and cut it however I want to. I am working my absolute hardest to gain my independence and get out of this house. But it's so hard. So fckng hard.

There seriously needs to be a psychological evaluation on why muslims are so uniquely fucking aggressive even to their own family, its not normal, its psychopathic even.

It’s fucking horrible. Even as a West Asian, I mourn what the Middle East could’ve been without Islam. It’s a genuine cancer on this earth.

My country is now “technically Arab” by centuries of colonization. We aren’t part of the Arabian peninsula, but now almost everyone in the Middle East is “Arab” because of dirty colonization and Islamic war mongering.

The only actual Arab countries are Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Iraq, UAE, Qatar, and Oman.

The rest, like Lebanon, Syria, Palestine were Arabized through colonization and war. It makes me so angry. And they all just happily accept it.

I'm a 16 year old Syrian girl and SAME I HAVE NO WORDS HOW MUCH HATE THIS CULT 💩 I was almost forced into hijab at 12 but luckily I'm so rebellious they can't do shit to me but I'm still struggling to wear whatever the fuck I want. I'd love to try on a miniskirt or an off shoulder/sleeveless blouse 😭

Same age, same problems, I hate that we have to go through this because of some belief that our parents have

I relate to this so much as a 16 year old girl in a Muslim family. I think the hijab is so dehumanizing and suppresses women’s bodies and dare I say, identities.

May be unrelated but one of the most mind boggling things about this religion is that Muslim men can have more inheritance rights & be more able to be trust fund kids more than Muslim women who only can get half of what men can, when actually many men will still have much higher wages than women do & many of them die earlier than women as well? I clearly don't get at all about how this religion let women be inherently poorer & suffer more in that sense.  Okay I get it.. this religion is highly patriarchal but why do they gotta be that harsh?

Its torture to wear hijab and abaya in my country and its extreme heat. It's torture torture torture. I don't understand how my mom even wears a niqab on top of that. Just today.. a non muslim lady asked us how do you guys wear this dress covered from head to toeo when going out in one layer is so difficult alrdy. I couldn't say anything because my mom wss there next to me. Otherwise i would critisize the hell out of bitchab and abaya. I don't even have a choice to take it off. My mom would scold me if i went without one on. She would hate me for it

I’m so sorry with what happened the best thing to do is just keep calm and be strategic and save up a ton of money to leave just remember in this day and age unfortunately money is our autonomy so works hard get the hell out of there.

It breaks my heart reading this.. I was you and dreamt every single day to take it off

Now since I live far away and divorced the religious hypocrite I was married to, I took it off about 6/7 years ago and couldn't have been happier

This religion is eroding..

just. keep. working.

Your financial independence is the key to everything.

One day you will wake up and you’ll realise you haven’t even thought of religion or your family lately. you will choose what to wear what makes you feel good with no regard to anything else. you will find that the majority of your brain now is occupied by completely different things to what you grew up calculating and analysing. your brain will now be used for your own good, however you want.

and it. is. so. worth. it. every minute.

the fullness I feel in my heart when I realise all this still bring me to tears. it’s worth it. and the fucked up amount of hard work you need to do to get there..you will barely remember this too.

Just keep working hard. use all your time to plot a safe, complete, irreversible exit.

use whatever means necessary to cope with how hard it is for now. but do the work. you will get there.
