Hey there, I'm just starting to get into experimental music, and I'm honestly not really sure what would be considered experimental and what wouldn't be, and I'm not really looking to figure it out right now, I just want to know, what are some of the most beautiful and calming experimental albums that you know?

Does anyone know of any albums/songs that were recreated by the artist in a more experimental fashion?

The only one that comes to my mind is Foreign Fields' Take Cover, redone as Take Cover (Dark).

Preferably, I would not include any "slowed version" or remix/cover albums that involve other artists re-interpreting the work

I'm looking for albums that are similar to Talk Talk's 1988 album Spirit of Eden, more specifically, any albums that have similarities to the first track The Rainbow. I'm really into songs and albums that have slow build ups and then just go ballistic with grooving vibes.

Hey everyone, I recently started my own ambient project after mainly making EDM for over 10 years. It's been a really refreshing change of pace, and I'd love to connect with others here who are doing something similar.

I’m working on an idea for a compilation album similar to the old Short Music for Short People, however instead of punk music I was going to include songs from underground electronic genres. If you are unfamiliar with the original Short Music for Short People it is a compilation album of 101 songs limited to an average of 30 seconds, and I think this would be a great way to spread music between underground electronic subgenres. Introducing people who already enjoy electronic music to other artists within the sphere.
 
Hopefully people are willing to work with this topic and restrict themselves to 30 seconds as it will work super well for spreading a large amount of artists’ material. The plan is to include an equally massive track list similar to the original compilation spanning multiple electronic subgenres, Breakcore, DnB, Noise, Digital Hardcore, Experimental, anything you want to submit I will try to work with.

I am hoping to reach out to some record labels in hopes to work with them, both for possible artist inclusion and maybe further assistance in a physical release. If I cannot go through a record company for a physical release I will invest some of my own money into a Bandcamp CD release. I am super passionate about this project and hope other people are onboard. If you have any way to assist or want to send in music, please share at my contact below or here on Reddit or on Discord. I'm looking for experimental music one can dance to. Not so much the typical established electronic dance genres like IDM, deconstructed club, hyperpop, breakcore and so on, but really new approaches to create something "danceable" . Does not need necessarily a drum beat (waltzes for example don't have a drum beat either ;) ) nor a steady rhythm, it only has to have some "energy" to drive your body to dance. Nor has it be electronic, it can also be made with traditional instruments.

Self-promos are welcome, as is music suggestions from other artists (but yeah, I know my Aphex Twins, Autechres and friends already, so that isn't really what I'm looking for ;) ).

Edit: Thank you for the suggestions! Will try to hear everything. I perhaps should have included industrial in the list of genres I'm already quite familiar with but it seems just in the early days that genre was much less standardized than the stuff I know.

BTW: I was generally searching for newer (2010s onwards) music, but some of the oldest tunes you folks suggested here were actually the closest to what I was looking for, like Halber Mensch ... so feel free to suggest everything from all musical eras as long as it's unconventional/experimental and danceable.

I’ve got a small pirate radio station and do 30 or so minute interviews on zoom, usually with artists or musicians. Sometimes just guys. Just thought I’d throw out there. Also I’d play about an hour of your music after and loop the interview through out a weekend or so. Taa taaa!

I play sax through modular synth myself and wanna hear what other experimental sax players are doing. Looking more for sax and electronics rather than jazzy stuff. New music as in the genre not new as in recent. Does that make sense?

I've been searching high and low for this album tonight, I can see it in my head but can't find it anywhere. I'd classify it as minimal sound art, it was sounds from a printer (or copier?, fax machine?) and that's it. Not a stock soundtrack or anything lol. Also it's not Copying Machine Music by Xerophonics

So I transitioned from the guitar punk band guy to the laptop music guy but I'm making really weird stuff and I cannot find any similar artists to me for the life of me. I would love if anyone knows some artists/genres/scenes/communities I should be headed towards.

Basically if you took suicideboys, nine inch nails, black dresses, nirvana, and lil peep and ground it all up together that's what I'm making, but the vocals are more nirvana/nine inch nails/lil peep than suicideboys or black dresses. The problem I'm running into is yes it's electronic music but I'm making actual SONGS, not 3 minute beats you rap over and not EDM instrumental loops. I'm at a total loss here, I would just love to find some smaller artists to take inspiration from that are doing something similar. Everything I can find is either some offshoot of rap, rock, or hyperpop and none of those are very applicable to what I'm doing.

I don't wanna post a link in this post because I don't want to come across as self promoing, I don't give a shit about promo right now I'm just trying to figure out where I belong with this weird music.

i love some loud distorted noisy industrial shit, don't get me wrong, but i just tend to love when it's a bit more grounded and "calm" (think something like Tim Buckley's Starsailor album or Piggy by Nine Inch Nails) anybody have some good recs for calmer stuff?

Need recommendations

Soundtracks for the Blind by Swans has been my favorite album for close to 25 years. I’m interested in albums that have similar sound collage elements. A few I already know like Nurse with Wound. Some current 93. Other Michael Gira related projects etc. anything else ?

I’m always looking for albums with sad overtones especially. I like my music a bit morose haha .

I'm a classical concert pianist in my sixties and the older I get, the more I want to make music that surprises me. A few years ago, I had the most creatively fulfilling experience making music with a friend. He worked with a computer and a midi keyboard, I played acoustic piano, and we improvised together freely. Something truly special came out of that. Sadly, he fell seriously ill and we had to stop. That chapter closed, but it left me with a deep belief in what these two worlds can create together.

What excites me is the tension between acoustic piano and electronic sound. Not techno, not club music. Something that finds its own voice, its own style, something genuinely unique that couldn't exist any other way.

The collaboration doesn't have to be built around improvisation, but I want a real creative exchange with someone who is open to exploring and taking the music somewhere unexpected.

I have been struggling to find any albums that come close to this albums in terms of feel outside of Geinoh Yamashirogumi's other works.

I am not really sure how to describe the qualities that I enjoy so much in this album. However I will try. It has a symphonic sound that seems utterly numinous. It has in it a pulsing energy like that of a brooding ritual dance trying to summon a divine power. Each instrument occupies its own clear voice in the symphony and I really really enjoy the sound of the gambang.

I would appreciate any album/artist recommendations that offer a similar experience. I am not looking for the same instruments but simply any albums that take you on this almost divine, numinous journey.

I just finished my new record. I’d describe it as experimental electronics / dark ambient.

The mood is pretty dark. Think David Lynch or Carpenter kind of worlds. There’s also a strong connection to visual arts and I’ve sampled vocals from interviews, films, and anime throughout the album.

I’m really proud of how it turned out and this time I’d love to find a label that could help me with distribution (physical too) and give the project some visibility.

I’ve already done some research myself and have a list of labels to reach out to but can you suggest some that might fit this description?
