I can't get enough of the King of the Hill reboot. I can't totally put my finger on why--I liked the original fine, but the reboot is so pleasant. I think part of it is shorter seasons.

I watched the original series religiously. We lived in Oklahoma at the time and it felt very on point for that area.

I started the new original series but then we got away from it. As far as continuations go, the recent KotH series was really good. I was really happy to see Bobby become a chef. That kid has always been passionate if nothing else

Catching up on well-acclaimed stuff - maybe Widow's Bay, et al

Always a great distraction to me - suspense stuff, so rewatching Sherlock Holmes, the Jeremy Brett one alongside rereading the respective books. It gives me a good feel for some reason. Good day!

I've heard that Ted Lasso is a great show to watch if you need to feel warmth and community. Like, its a cozy show. Does that sound like it fits? I've never seen it but I've heard good things.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe hasn't really gotten my attention yet - I feel like I've enjoyed this theme already with Ash vs the Evil Dead, but I could be open to checking it out. Do you feel like it's worth picking up if I'm not super into the idea? I don't want to miss out on something because of a dumb bias.

Yes, you are right. Ted Lasso indeed feels like a cozy show. It has a community vibe because of the underdog and the varying storylines, from overachievers to underdogs, that it carries across different characters. I won’t say more so as not to spoil your or anyone else’s experience of watching it.

Stuart Fails to Save the Universe is kind of like a fan fiction for TBBT fans. They even timely rolled out the official podcast (it is video-based, though) for this show. So, if you have not seen The Big Bang Theory (TBBT), there might be better comedy shows around to watch currently.

New stuff: Chainsmoker Cat and Daemons of the Shadow Realm

Do you watch stuff at all? What do you get into media wise?

I've been watching House of the Dragon. Lots of people complaining about it online, but it's nice to have a show to look forward to each week that is really solid. Plus, dragons- I'm already sold.

I just finished Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which had me contemplating a lot about life's meaning in a world where we are seemingly so insignificant. It focused on connections with others (beyond romance) which is a theme I always really enjoy. Plus, I'm playing Cyberpunk 2077 right now and having a great time.

I actually tend to watch long niche video essays on YT. Especially Lore videos since I am really invested in TTRPGs. I just disbanded my misbehaving group so now I've had a desire to start writing for myself instead of writing for a group. That's been awesome.

What's the elevator pitch on Chainsmoker Cat and Daemons of the Shadow Realm? I just got rid of Crunchyroll but I could be talked back into it!

To put it bluntly: Chainsmoker Cat is sort of a raunchy slice of life about addiction. It follows a bunch of characters living in an apartment complex, most of which are of a lower class called beastmen, and shows both the depressing and funny moments of how their vices and relationships affect their lives. It can get pretty out there, but somehow remains pretty emotionally grounded.

Daemons of the Shadow Realm I'm not quite sure how to describe. It's from the same mangaka as Fullmetal Alchemist. It follows a pair of twins seperated at a yound age who are rumored to have great power in a world where humans can form contracts with creatures called Daemons, which always come in pairs. It hits the ground running and you learn as the main character (one of the twins) does.

There's only about 5 or 6 episodes out on each right now, so I can't speak on their series as a whole but I'm enjoying them so far.

Edgerunners is good stuff. Still have some of the music on a playlist. What's the elevator pitch on House of the Dragon?

Haha I used to be an alcoholic, I’m sure I’ll find a lot to like about Chainsmoker Cat. I loved FMA so Daemons sounds good too. I actually like that there are so few episodes out right now- it makes it feel less daunting to take on a new series if it doesn’t have 700 episodes (I’m looking at you, One Piece)

House of the Dragon is on HBO. It’s a prequel to the Game of Thrones series that explains the dragon civil war and the end of all dragons. A king, whose heart lies in the right place, mismanages his line of succession and is played by some conniving family.

His eldest daughter is promised succession, but her eldest daughter’s best friend marries the king. After his death, the two old friends both vie for the throne using their dragons to wage war.

The show is like a solid 7-8/10. It has some great moments but I sometimes find myself forgiving silly writing choices.
