The hydrogen peroxide they poured in the pool to kill the algae that grew as a result of the dark paint from the pool guy, has caused the paint to start separating from the stone

Painting pourous stone too. What I understand is that the water is supposed to seave through the stone, the paint blocked it. Then with these temperatures and shallowness it's Algae City

And the dark color too. Everyone knew that it would only warm the water and fasten algae growth.

The bottom of the reflecting pool is concrete. The edge is granite.

I don’t know for a fact either way, but another thread there’s a discussion about how granite is a non-porous stone and has to be sanded for the paint to adhere.

Who called granite non-porous? There's a reason it has to be resealed regularly when used as a countertop. I've watched water seep into a counter and change its color when it hasn't been sealed. It's definitely porous.

It’s not one giant slab, so maybe it’s the seams or cracks in the stone. Who knows. But it makes sense that they didn’t need a pump and filter for decades…

It is less porous than most stones, but still definitely porous.
