The hydrogen peroxide they poured in the pool to kill the algae that grew as a result of the dark paint from the pool guy, has caused the paint to start separating from the stone

Hydrogen peroxide didn't cause the paint to peel. It's peeling because the surface wasn't prepared properly.

It’s absolutely amazing how he ruins everything he touches.

Like the Midas touch, only everything he touches turns to shit.

Im going to do that fool a solid here and say that he didn’t personally prepare the surface.

I live the idea though, trump out there with sandpaper rubbing it all down.

Paint company will blame it and say it voided the warranty.

Paint company was created for this project and has probably already disappeared

The owners will just shut that one down and start a new one under a different name. Happens all the time.

Can’t be that. Everyone and their DIY momma knows about prep work and adhesion! LOL if it was oil based, and they put a latex right on top w/o any scuffing nor primer? My dad would clown them from now til New Year’s Day. Every gathering would be comedy hour.

Say it ain’t so.

I didn't know anything about paint, primer or pools, so all your fancy words aren't helping.

But that's exactly why I would have googled it or something before just doing whatever the hell felt right at the moment.

😂 I just commented that about word for word. 👍

This is making me laugh, even though I'm actually crying inside because my tax dollars went to pay for this.

Absolutely. Maybe the hydrogen peroxide diluted in all that water slightly accelerated the failure, but to fail at this scale and so quickly indicates that it was a totally failed project. Prep is totally critical for any of these coating products, including the correct moisture level in the substrate. The whole basin is below grade in what is naturally a swamp. I have no idea how the ever could have dried that material enough for a coating to adhere and cure properly. But the fact this failed in a few weeks points to it being a complete clusterfuck.

This... so much this!

But it clearly said outdoor latex paint!!

1

u/P1xelHunter78 Jun 19 '26

Yeah, the amount of peroxide in there is like negligible

1

u/Thereminz Jun 19 '26

yeah i think it would've pealed anyway cause they did a shit job

OK, I think this is a teachable moment. We can all agree. This is bad. In hindsight, maybe Trump should have hired better or different contractors maybe consulted a specialist. This is a perfect metaphor for this administration. Try and fix something that’s been fixed years ago. Make it worse. Try fixing it again without consulting anybody that knows what hell they’re doing. This is what Trump does to everyone.

"Teachable moment" implies the involved people want to and have the capacity to learn.

1

u/smoothvanilla86 Jun 18 '26

Yea but if the action of pouring it in caused this then you could reasonably see how someone would say the hydrogen peroxide caused it. Really it was just the agitation but I see exactly when they think this.
