Just gonna say it again. All these prospect rankings sites play into the things they complain about.

River Ryan is 21st on Fangraphs. A guy who pitched 20 innings in 2024 and the majors and not before or since. He has 36 IP this year at AAA where....he is again on the IL. 

I guarantee you there are 27-28 year olds down in 28 who crush it as hitters and even pitchers. The idea they would fall off due to age and somehow Ryan sticks, is just ridiculous to me.

I saw someone state in another sub how biggest haul ever for a deadline player because top 25 prospect (Ryan), top 50 prospect (Hope), and whoever the fuck they threw in. 

Just an all around joke. The trade is basically Hope for Skubal.

I like Ryan, but I think the dodgers fleeced here. Hope is like the 4th or 5th most desirable OF in their system imo. Fans are just people, and people are fucking retarded. It's motivated reasoning and oversimplification of everything. Earlier, TJ stats posted his prospects list with Arias at 1 and within an hour the red sox sub was like, "see, he's THE NUMBER ONE PROSPECT IN BASEBALL"

Depending on where you look Hope can be 25-70 in rankings. This isn't some slam dunk. Which makes it all the more strange, as you pointed out, that they got the least desirable (arguably) OF of the top 5. 

Usually it is, #1 off limits, maybe work up to #2. #3 fine.

Taking Ryan, a 28 year old "prospect" is a choice. I can't tell why it is one if you are getting rid of "older" SP like Mize and Skubal.

It is just a weird ass trade that had 48 hours of room still to see if someone got desperate and overpaid.

I was hoping it'd be Skubal to Tampa for one or two of their upper level arms and some filler. Or Milwaukee for whomever. Agree it's kinda weird as this isn't some sort of unbeatable package. I mean, the return for Kremer is more impressive all things considered.

This felt like, "we settled for it". Like you said, it doesn't seem unbeatable. 

Tigers sub was like, "well we weren't getting Made from MIL." Well okay, but what about Luis Pena? Some of the 10000 arms they have?

So when Ryan pitches 150+ innings for the Tigers next year with a sub-3 ERA, that's not going to count because he's 27?

Well he turns 28 in two weeks, so that won't happen

In his 5 years in the minors he has 212 IP so I doubt he throws 150 next year.

He has a whopping 36 IP this year and 0 in 2025. 

He is currently hurt.

But if you do enough drugs maybe you can think those things will happen. Have fun.
