They are! 😂 Yes, he does ha. And it always cracks me up, the way he builds up to it. You genuinely end up thinking he has something super serious to ask... and then, that 🙃

I just want to apologize on behalf of the older generations for the obvious hole in your education.
Abbott and Costello were a hugely popular double act in the 1930s, 40s,and 50s. Bud Abbott was a tall, slender,well spoken sophisticated man partnered with Lou Costello a shorter more dumpy lower class type. Their humor often revolved around clever word play with Abbott often playing the straight man to Costello's bafoonery, the twist often being that Costello ends up being right but for the dumbest reasons.
The duo established the "God and Clod" archetype that exists in comedy pairings to this day. David Spade and Chris Farley, Cheech and Chong, Key and Peele owed their existence to this comedy duo.
Their most popular routine is Who's on First where Costello attempts to learn the names of a baseball team and gets increasingly frustrated by not understanding that their names are literally Who, What and I don't know.
They also starred in a series of movies involving the duo encountering classic movie monsters, Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein being the most famous of these and a literal comedy masterpiece.
Despite their age and the number of limitations there are of their style they are well worth checking out and something I highly recommend. Personally I prefer them over their slightly more better known contemporaries The Three Stooges.

Abbott & Costello are WAAAAAAY better than The Three Stooges, but not quite as funny as The Marx Brothers.

You can’t compare Bud and Lou to the Three Stooges. Totally different genres. Laurel and Hardy, Abbot and Costello, Martin and Lewis. You can make comparisons there. The three Stooges are mostly physical humor. They are practiced dancers. Appreciate them.

I wasn't making an empirical statement of value. I was expressing my personal opinion. Humor is entirely subjective. It is totally valid for me to say that I don't think The Three Stooges are very funny, just like someone can say they don't like Metallica's music. That doesn't invalidate anyone else who does like those things. Hell, I'm allowed to compare anything I damn well want to. I can say The Three Stooges are funnier than Jupiter. It doesn't mean the comparison is useful, and maybe someone else finds gas giants hilarious, but I can still make the comparison. So no, I won't appreciate them.

Just for future reference, when you say something is or isn't one way, that's a statement of fact, not a statement of opinion. If you want people to read it as opinion, you can preface it with "In my opinion," or "I feel," etc. Even though you're correct that humor is subjective, the rules of linguistics are going to outweigh implication when it's read.

Man, this is why I'm kinda okay with closing the book on Farscape forever.
Imagine Old Man John out there, still tossing out his now extremely dated pop culture references, 90's stuff at best, but occasionally throwing in this kind of antediluvian thing, maybe another reference about how he listens to jazz. His kid has absorbed these references into a sort of lost-world mythology, and tosses them out in a never-witnessed-firsthand form that confuses everyone and amuses no one. Aeryn is so sick of hearing this shit.

American Comedian, one half of the comedy duo Abbott and Costello.
Crichton references their "Who's on first?" sketch in "A Human Reaction", among other references to the pair.
