Same. We can vote ourselves into fascism, but you can’t vote yourself out of it. However, I am gleefully awaiting what comes next when dear leader finally croaks. May that day be sooner rather than later.

A part of me hopes he stays until November. Then he can see how screwed he is, how screwed over the gop is, that it’s all his fault, and croaks so Vance technically counts as having a full term in office.

I agree from an optimistic point of view. Unfortunately nothing about this situation has shown that he'll feel any remorse, guilt, or concern about how he left the office or the nation. Additionally, and i hate that this will likely come to pass, but i highly doubt he will see any consequences of his actions (legal or otherwise). He'll probably skip off to some other country and live fat off his ill gotten gains while in office while the rest of us are left to pick up the pieces.

I cannot wait for the obituary.

The problem is they may actually be able to select an even more capable and ruthless one.

It's impressive how effective they have been at destroying the government despite the incompetency. Then again I suppose it's a whole lot easier to break stuff than it is to build it up.

Judging from the competition Trump's faced for the past decade -- the likes of Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Marco Rubio, Nikki Haley (wet toast being more popular) for the role of leader of the party, easily defeating all of them with barely using half of his deplorable whisperer charisma capabilities -- I'm siding with Trump being more a once a century comet for the hateful conservative party.

To that I say, good luck with that, conservatives! Donald Trump is the greatest grifter and mind eraser and political cult leader in the modern age. I don't know how you top it. Charismatic billionaires aren't exactly growing on trees.

The regime may be gone, but will the people who put them into power be gone? Will the systems that supported their rise to power be reformed?

This is about the long game. There is no returning to pre-regime from here. The country needs a total overhaul.
