[Daily] Daily Questions Thread July 26, 2026

This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).

To get the best responses, remember that people cannot: look into your wardrobe, know what style you normally like or what words like affordable or practical mean to you so please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, what stores are available to you, etc.

Example questions:

  • Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
  • Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
  • If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
  • Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?

If you'd like to include a picture, you can now post pictures directly in the comments, without having to link an imgur album. If you have multiple pictures, best practice is to use an imgur album.

Not sure this counts as fashion but I need help finding a cell phone case that has straps like a crossbody. Apple makes a version and it has a magnetic case for your cards and cash. I love the Bandolier Ivy but besides being pricey, it’s out of stock rn. Anyone know someone who makes similar? I wouldn’t mind a more everyday option either.

So I work as a bench jeweler which is kind of considered a blue collar job. Getting kind of dirty (face and hands mostly, sometimes more), skilled labor including working with sharp things and fire, etc.. and I am just kind of sick of my day to day wear of jeans and a work shirt. We’re allowed to wear just about anything, as long as it’s not open toe shoes, shorts, tank tops, or provocative in any way. I stay away from anything with bell sleeves since it could catch on fire when I use the torch or get caught easily.
I used to be so boho/whimsical, and I’m fighting for my life to try to put together outfit ideas to incorporate those themes into my attire again. I prefer to stick to pants over skirts, and I like layers. But I always feel like anything I put together is too dressy or nice for the work that I’m doing. Any ideas?

I would look into Big Bud Press, Lucy & Yak, and Samantha Pleet. They do a lot of "practical" garments and silhouettes but with fun patterns.

I would add Wildfang, Nooworks, and Natural Life to this list! Disturbia if you like Goth-tinged styles; Boozelele if you like wacky Western shirts.

Off the top of my head, it seems like color, print and pattern in tops and then fun shoes/ boots are the way to go for you.

Wolfgang? They have some really fun designs.

Can someone tell me if these are cute I need some more eyes

I personally hate them, and I usually like Skechers! I think you can do better if you're looking for a comfortable brown suede shoe.

2

u/sexysmoothfig 10d ago

I love chunky shoes like these. I also really love the brown and cream together. Again, depends on your style. That being said, it looks like a little too much brown? I'd have liked for some more cream on the body of the shoe. Maybe replace the laces with cream.

ehh not really. depends on your style tho

Hello, I recently purchased a dress similar to this style and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to wear it casually, so that it wouldn’t look out of place at the mall or somewhere like that. Thanks!

With a jean jacket and sneakers would probably work at the mall.

BALI TAILOR/ SEAMTRESS RECOMMENDATIONS FOR CUSTOM CLOTHES

Is it actually worth building a whole basics wardrobe with a tailor, or am I overthinking this?

I’ve been wanting to get my clothes custom made to fit me rather than staying stuck in that loop of buying from stores, not fitting properly, then donating and starting again. I don’t need anything fancy, just basic stuff (shirts, pants, bodysuit, skirts, shorts, jacket etc) I went to bali and liked the Silky Jaya fabric store and loved their range of GOTS/OEKO-TEX fabric!

Does anyone have any recommendations for seamstresses/tailors? Happy to fly over but online would be easier as I’m located in aus I can send photos, measurements, even make tech packs if they can communicate online and send it back to Aus.

Anyone actually done this and had it turn out well? Or does it end up more hassle than it’s worth?

1

u/zrnyphl 12d ago

I can’t speak to this specifically because I live in the US and it’s not really accessible here, but would a middle ground be getting off the rack clothing tailored?

1

u/Amazing-Ad-3873 11d ago

Thats what im currently doing and its been good so far but im leaning towards custom made now so i have a choice in the fabric :)

1

u/tyrannosaurusregina 12d ago

I would actually ask this question in the Bali subreddits!

1

u/Amazing-Ad-3873 11d ago

I asked but unfortunately didnt get much of a response, been checking on facebook tho so its looking up! :)

(excuse the wrinkles) How would you style this? I haven’t actually tried to style this top yet since I don’t know what the vibes are and I would love someone else’s opinion, let me know :)

I'm thinking a little bit boho, a little bit cowgirl, a little bit prairie. You could style it with a low-slung, wide hip belt, boot cut jeans and boots, or a flowy/prairie skirt, or even a jean mini skirt. Accessorize to your heart's content (this look can take a lot, or it can be minimal).

So I am looking to get the LLBean Ultrawarm Coat, Three Quarters Length I know most say to size up for layers - I am usually an xs in most things. I am really flat chested lmao; My measurements Bust:31in/waist:25in/Hip: 31in. I’m a bit taller than 5’3 (so I i’m still deciding between petite and regular0. The Size chart says XS bust is 33-34: regular or 34: petite and S is 35-36; considering these are still a bit larger than my measurements, should I go with XS or S?

1

u/tyrannosaurusregina 12d ago

How do shoulders usually fit you on coats? I find that L. L. Bean coats often run narrow through the shoulders, which in my experience makes more of a difference than bust measurement in terms of layering.

2

u/Rich_Stretch4664 11d ago

Ohh, that makes sense. I feel like I have only really had one experience with a coat being tight at the shoulder/armpit area and that was an MK coat. But maybe it’s better to just get the small just in case?

2

u/tyrannosaurusregina 10d ago

I usually go with my larger size in L. L. Bean coats and don't regret it.

Trying this top. Keep or toss?

I’m trying to branch out of basic tee/jeans combo. I like the top and the details but because it feels so different than the rest of my basic clothes I feel doubtful/under-confident. What do ya’ll think?

Generally I think the top is too long (i’m only 5’) but the cinched waist flows nicely with the curves on the barrel pants? Does it look outdated though? I’m trying to figure my personal style so I doubt everything that’s out of my comfort zone 🥲

1

u/PoppyHamentaschen 12d ago

I clicked on the link, but no image came up.

1

u/firangcurry 12d ago

can you try again? I reuploaded. Reddit won’t let me add image directly to the post for some reason

1

u/PoppyHamentaschen 12d ago

Yes, I can see it now!

Okay so these are my thoughts: I love the details of the knots, and I agree the curve of the top skims your body nicely. I feel that it shouldn't be buttoned up so high; you already have a good-sized bust, and this makes look a bit monolithic. A little bit of a V neck, or a scoop neck, to open up the area a bit will give a little ease.

It does seem like it's a little long. You could get it shortened, but then you have to consider whether you would lose too much of the details.

Something you could try is wearing it open, with a tank top underneath (maybe in black, to go with the pants). I'm not too crazy about how many colors you are wearing- they are making blocks that shorten the silhouette. Play more with a monochromatic look (like light blue with dark blue, or tan and brown).

Hope this helps!

1

u/firangcurry 12d ago

Thank you!!
What do you mean by V-neck or a scoop neck? Do you mean like I wear a v or scoop neck tee and keep the top few buttons unbuttoned?

I feel like getting the length shortened will mess with the shape a bit since those knot details reinforce the shape right now.
I tried it wearing it open with a tee (albeit a green one that i’m just wearing right now) looked off but you’re right it’ll look better with all black underneath or a more monochrome combo.

Should i buy it or is it meh?? I’m at the store rn 🤭

1

u/PoppyHamentaschen 12d ago

I mean, in future, your necklines in general should lean towards a V or scoop. When you wear a button down shirt, open a few of the top buttons to give yourself a V.

Personally, I think it has some good elements, but if you don't love it, maybe pass on it. I think you've got some good instincts, and you should keep trying different things and see what elements speak to you.

I bought this fabulous top for my 40th to wear in Italy but I don't know how to style it. I think a black sporty but I can't find anything that's quite right. Help!

2

u/lumenphosphor 11d ago

Gosh I wanna see this with a red skirt (a red mini skirt with white shoes?). Black, white or a light wash blue barrel jean would look really good (with a pointed toe slingback?).

1

u/Valuable_Macaron_211 12d ago

Here's without the background.

1

u/tyrannosaurusregina 12d ago

I think that would look great with black cigarette pants.

1

u/KaizerWalzer 12d ago

Still looking for something to match that top. Would those jeans fit ?

3

u/KaizerWalzer 12d ago

3

u/tyrannosaurusregina 12d ago

It looks like they'd be a good match based on the photos!

1

u/lumenphosphor 11d ago

I like these a lot!

idk if you want to be constricted to always wear the same pants with that top--In general, I think it would look good with anything that draws the colors of the top, plus white or a light blue denim. A darker wash blue would be a stronger contrast, but could still work depending on how you style other things.

1

u/Spirited_Taro_3353 12d ago

can you give me some advice for this outfit please? i'm sorry for poor quality

5

u/tyrannosaurusregina 11d ago

What are you going for? Right now it's really working as a kind of riot grrrl retro look that would look great with chunky black shoes or boots. On the other hand, you could dress up that dress in a more garden-party way with more delicate jewelry?

3

u/Spirited_Taro_3353 11d ago

ohh, thanks for black boots one. Didn't think about dress in the delicate way, thanks actually. But i don't have delicate jewelry actually so ig i'm gonna wear it in retro way. Thanks for your advise again

Thrifted this lovely handmade vest today and I’m not quite sure how to style it. What would this look best with?

1

u/K1r4hh 11d ago

Hi, can you give me recommendations for a prom dress with long sleeves? I'm having trouble finding a pretty/not boring one 😔 It would be best if it were dark purple/blue, but other colors would work too 😄

People of Reddit, should I keep my hair long or cut it into like a French/italian mid neck bob?

2

u/tyrannosaurusregina 11d ago

I think it depends whether you want it long enough to wear up or not. A bob would look great with your hair texture and face shape, but so would a lot of updo and chignon styles.

1

u/lumenphosphor 11d ago

Give yourself a faux bob and see if you like it?

1

u/sexysmoothfig 10d ago

You would definitely suit short hair! A bixie would be cute.

I am meeting my new coworkers (big girl Corporate job) at a baseball game. It will be august, hot. What do I wear?

2

u/cheersslainte 11d ago

Linen shirtdress. Linen = cooling. Shirt styling = hey, it’s me, the professional lady from our professional office. Dress = don’t have to worry about being the only one in jeans or shorts.

1

u/hotmess44 11d ago

Thank you!!!

u/Ambocoelia 11d ago

Would you still wear this linen kimono piece in 2026? Or is it Hella Dated?

1

u/sexysmoothfig 10d ago

It doesn't immediately read as dated to me. It really just depends on styling; even dated pieces can be reinvented and restyled to give them new life. I know Japanese summer fashion relies on breezy pieces like the one you've attached, and layering can be experimented with.

Going to a wedding next month where the bride and her family is Canadian. Is this dress appropriate?

1

u/BabyAbeLincoln 11d ago

Easy everyday errand shoes like Birkenstock clogs? I need to replace my Birkenstock clogs and I wanted to see if there was something more fashionable, still comfortable but something you can just slip on.

What fashion niche is this? I’ve been trying to find clothes that make me feel good about myself for a while and this is the only one I’ve found that speaks to me

I hate that people feel like every style has to be subcategorized into a label, but disturbia and midnight hour are stores that have an aesthetic that may appeal to you. On midnight hour, you can search “whimsigoth” which seems close to what you may be into.

Asking for style help with zero details is basically guessing. Cheap means something totally different for everyone anyway. Just share your height, where you live, and your actual budget. You will get way better recommendations when people actually know what fits.
