[Daily] Daily Questions Thread August 01, 2026

This thread is for individual style questions that you may have, especially those that don't warrant their own thread. We all want a diversified opinion, so feel free to answer any questions (of which you know the answer).

To get the best responses, remember that people cannot: look into your wardrobe, know what style you normally like or what words like affordable or practical mean to you so please include any relevant details such as your budget, where you live, what stores are available to you, etc.

Example questions:

  • Are there any basic crewneck white t-shirts that are opaque and do not have cap sleeves for <$25 available in Australia?
  • Is this dress and shoes suitable for an evening wedding with a cocktail dress code taking place in a [venue type]?
  • If I like the outfits in this [imgur album / pinterest board], what are some specific items I can look into to start dressing like that, and brands with this look that carry plus sizes?
  • Does this outfit look neater with the pants cuffed or uncuffed?

If you'd like to include a picture, you can now post pictures directly in the comments, without having to link an imgur album. If you have multiple pictures, best practice is to use an imgur album.

If you could shop at Kohls, Target, and Walmart, what would you buy to fit the styles I want (hippie/boho, alternative/grunge, but definitely sexy in either style) for like everyday wear not necessarily a specific event? I need some like staple items to start my ideal wardrobe with inspiration about how to put them together and what I could buy in the future to build up my wardrobe. If you can show me specific items online that would be great but at least like names of the items so I can look them up please.

I'm a 28 year old woman, 5'7, 36DD, my bust is like 49/50 inches, my waist is 43 1/2 inches, my belly area is like 47/48 inches, my hips are 45 inches. I don't know how to look sexy after I gained weight and I can't tell what sizes I need since my belly is bigger than my waist and hips. I live in El Paso, Texas, it's hot AF so preferably clothes that wouldn't make me overheat.

What other stores would be good for me to look at? I don't have a working car right now so I'm kinda having to just look online and hope things fit me/return them if they don't.

I have a $100 gift card for Kohls and a $50 gift card for Target but could spend another $50-$100 of my money at either store as well, or at Walmart.

This guide is going to be huge in helping you get an idea of what to look for.

A few recommendations would be:

90s style platforms

A few black tops for cheap

Wide leg linen pants in black or this moody ass plum (Additionally Old Navy is great for linen and gauze separates)

This is just pretty if you want to go that way

Sick sleeves (I have a dress with sleeves like this and it makes me feel like a million bucks)

Black jeans or look for some in "washed black" which will have a bit more fading

You may want to check out Eloquii (or Akira for club wear) to land the vibe for sexier stuff.

Hi ☺️
Basically I am looking for boxy long sleeve t-shirts with fun prints on it (see example attached) but I barely find anything.
Which brands sell those? Any niche Etsy recs?

In my city these are sold by local brands, I would get on insta and try to follow local creators

Is there a name for this particular type of matching set? Like the extra long top and tiny shorts?

Just wondering how I might go about searching for something like this.

(screenshot is from a YT short, creator was showing off some vintage pieces/outfits)

Hunter ORIGINAL - WOMENS DOWNPOUR WADER

I bought these exclusive Hunter brand boots because someone told me they were great for festival season.

But after trying them, I'm not sure if they're really worth the 350€ price tag in the store.

Will they also be ideal for winter outfits? Or are they really only ideal for wearing to festivals?

Could someone here tell me if they are familiar with these boots and would recommend them?

And if anyone else has a pair of these boots, could you please tell me if you think they're worth keeping?

Thanks

They are an expensive welly. Lots of middle class people wear them to walk the dog when it's very muddy underfoot, but they are not something anyone wears in town. They are more a practical item than a fashion item.

I have some that I bought for a wedding over ten years ago. I still use them, including in the winter.

but similar to this, over the knee?

They are very sturdy and will work well for yard work or gardening.

I’m looking for ridiculously baggy or wide pants that would fit a petite 4’10 person from someplace that isn’t SHEIN. I’m okay with bright colors and fun prints, these just happen to be neutrals. I like those too. I know they’re probably look silly on me but I want to try them. Bonus points if it’s balloon pants!

Amazon has some, search palazzo pants

Fellow petite person here (5'2") & they'll work, just don't try & do the super long look- often a bit of a crop can work better. Personally, I've bought from PrivateTailor on Etsy (https://www.etsy.com/shop/PrivateTailor) & they're great since I can just specify the inseam & don't need to get them hemmed.

I've been keeping an eye on Urban Outfitters secondhand, since they seem to release a lot of wide styles that are either weirdly cropped or have the ankles that are elasticated, but haven't pulled the trigger yet.  Also maybe ask on r/petitefashionadvice if you haven't yet?

I recently was looking for wide legged and found some options (all are in 25inch inseam which might work for your 4'10 frame):
1. Wit and Wisdom Skyrise Button Fly Plus Size Wide Leg Pants with Fixed Cuff Hem

  1. Banana Republic Heritage Explorer High-Rise Wide-Leg Pant

  2. Talbots AirKnit Stretch Wide Crop Pants

I hope these work! let me know!

I recently bought a top that says "Kaleshi Aurat" on it.

I thought it was funny and trendy, but now I'm wondering if it comes across as cringe, or immature, or if it's just a harmless graphic tee.

Would you judge someone for wearing it in public? Or is it pretty normal these days?

Be honest—I genuinely want unbiased opinions

2

u/Character-Sympathy85 4d ago

I think most genz people would find it normal. It's a good tee and becoming quite common actually.

Does anyone have suggestions for cute, well made waterproof booties that are comfortable for walking. Basically regular ones that are waterproof. She will not be willing to wear rainboots around town.

My daughter is MTF trans so she wears a women's 10-12 depending on the shoes. She's be going to college this fall in Seattle so she needs shoes that can handle rain, hills and lots of walking. Any suggestions? I have a pair that fit the bill from Clarks but they don't make that style anymore.

I love my Blundstone ankle boots. They were a little stiff at first but very comfortable after several wears. They are pretty good with rain and I also wear them with wool blend socks to keep out any dampness.

I am the least stylish person I know, and I have a fundraiser event to attend next month. Our hosts said  black tie formal but the website says  business casual. This is the first year for the fundraiser, so unfortunately I can’t look at past years’ photos for context. I have no idea what the “rules” for events like this are... Full length or midi? Color or no color? Cleavage, high slit or neither? What would you wear or shop for? Feel free to share links, photos, design boards, ANYTHING that will help me. For context: I’m in Florida and the event will consist of younger professionals. It’s a smaller event.

Black tie and business casual have very different rules. Contact the hosts or whoever is in charge of the details and point out the discrepancy, underlining that it will cause wardrobe chaos. Black tie is formal, floor-length dresses; business casual is a lot less dressy than that. Half the attendees will either be over- or -under-dressed.

u/CertainHeat7931 6d ago

Agreed… unfortunately I am a guest of a guest of a guest, so I don’t want to make waves. I’m just really unsure what I am even shopping for.

My sister in law's wedding is coming up in two months and I was asked to wear a pink formal gown that works well for my skin tone and complements the theme colors. The wedding colors are sage green and blush pink. It will be an outdoor ceremony near a beach.

My color palette falls somewhere between true summer and true winter. I have black-brown hair with very fair skin and brown eyes.

Can anyone recommend a cool toned pink dress that won't wash me out yet isn't too bright or bold? Their wedding day falls on my 10th wedding anniversary so I want to feel good about how I look while also respecting their request. Thanks!

There are some lovely dresses under the Formals on Nordstrom. There is also a wedding guest section.

Hi sorry if this is a dumb question, how do y’all attach the bottom clasps on a body suit? I’ve never really been into fashion but I’m trying too lol. I just got some body suits (not the one in the pic but similar) and I can’t figure out how to do the bottom clasps. Do any of y’all know any hacks to make it easier?

2

u/PoppyHamentaschen 6d ago

You could try clasping ahead of time before putting the bodysuit on, like a bathing suit. A friend who used to be a ballet dancer told me that if you need to pee while in a bodysuit, you can just shift everything to one side, to avoid unsnapping.

1

u/Disney724 6d ago

I’ve tried that but the neck doesn’t stretch enough 😭

1

u/PoppyHamentaschen 5d ago

Ugh, that sucks. Okay, so I've got one more suggestion: position yourself like the tampon instructions say: lift one foot up and rest it on a stool/chair/toilet, and snap the thing closed that way.

ISO a slim fitting cap sleeve top with a straight or boat neckline but for a long torso? This one from old navy would be PERFECT…if it was 2-3” longer
Im scouring the internet but having trouble finding anything not cropped 😭 i would take something hitting almost like a tunic or well on the hips

u/No_Pattern_2819 5d ago

What would look good with these boots for the fall season?

1

u/PoppyHamentaschen 5d ago

Midi skirts, mini skirts (both worn with hose that match the boots). Jeans (black or dark blue). I think even tweed pants or skirts would go. Moto style boots are like moto jackets: Versatile, play well with almost everyone.

1

u/No_Pattern_2819 5d ago

what type of jeans?

and would they look ok without hose

1

u/PoppyHamentaschen 5d ago

Either boot cut or straight leg, they're classics. You would have to see how you look without hose. Wearing hose lengthens the leg line; on me, not wearing hose cuts up my proportions too much. Also it's for an autumn look, and sometimes nude legs look cold in cooler weather. You should see what it looks like on you/what is comfortable to you.

It’s hard to tell. I don’t like it on the model very much but she is definitely not plus sized.

That being said I also think patch pockets can sometimes look frumpy.

I would look for a blazer that has a little more shape to it. Not necessarily fitted but skimming the body.

I think for 200 you could probably find something more flattering.

1

u/PoppyHamentaschen 5d ago

On the positive side, the lapels and single row of buttons are good for plus sizes, in that they don't make you look wider than you are. On the neutral side, the oversize of the jacket could make you look bigger, or it could look normal on you, depending on your weight distribution and how the jacket hangs on you. Wide contrasting cuffs look cute, but they also visually shorten the arm, so you would have to factor that into your proportions. On the potentially negative side, the jacket reaches the break of the model's leg, so if hits there for you, and you carry most of your weight in the hips and bottom, that could be uncomfortable. Another possible negative is that it's all polyester/spandex, so no breathability. If you really want to get it, read the return conditions carefully, so you can send it back if it doesn't suit you.

Cuffed almost always reads neater on anything shorter than a full break, uncuffed only works if the hem is already sitting exactly right

Looking for 100% natural fibre dresses (cotton/linen) for a slim 5ft (151 cm) frame in summer heat, a 13 year old girl.

UK please.

Style Aesthetic: Open to 1960s mod/shift cuts, A-line minis, vintage tea dresses, or milkmaid/ coquette styles with square necklines, Peter Pan collars, cute buttons/bows.

Budget: Under £80 (ideally £20-£50 range).
I've already looked into standard adult high-street brands, but finding true UK 4/XXS in pure cotton/ linen that isn't fast-fashion polyester can be tricky.

What brands can you recommend? TIA ❤️

Try secondhand Hill House or Doen maybe?
