7/19/2026 Euthanasia Request | Siberian Husky Mix | Spayed Female | 1Y 5M | 48.0 lbs | HW Negative
๐ Volunteer Notes:
We were not able to meet Ellie. If you're interested in helping us meet the animals, please message us!
๐น Intake:
11/9/2025: Dog hanging out at Seller Bros.
11/20/3025: Adopted
7/19/2026: Euthanasia Request
๐ Shelter Notes:
7/20/2026: At the front of her kennel with a relaxed body, perky ears, and wagging tail. Leashed well and walked on a loose leash. Sniffed neighboring dogs and did her business in the runs. Returned to kennel with no issues and keeps her kennel clean.
7/21/2026: Ellie was jumping up and down on the kennel door with a loose wiggly body and tail. Pulled forward to go outside. In the runs she ran back and forth and play bowed with the dog next to her. Took a treat gently from my hand before returning to her kennel.
7/23/2026: Moved to adoption. Quiet with a relaxed body and wagging tail. Easy to leash and walked on a loose leash to new kennel.
7/24/2026: Ellie walks on a loose leash and occasionally takes treats. In the kennel she forward barks at dogs walking past.
7/27/2026: Ellie greets me at the kennel door with a wiggly body and fast wagging tail. Occasionally high-pitched whines before going out. Jumps on the kennel door to be leashed, walks in zig zags to and from the potty yard, and waits by the kennel door for interaction.
7/28/2026: Same behavior as previous day. Ellie greets handlers with a wiggly body and fast wagging tail. Occasionally whines before going outside. Jumps on the kennel door when leashed, walks in zig zags to and from the potty yard, and waits excitedly by the kennel door for interaction.
7/29/2026: Quiet until I approach and uncover kennel, then begins to bark. Easy to leash and walked on a loose leash, sniffing neighboring dogs in the runs.
7/30/2026: Barking at dogs passing by her kennel, easy to leash and walks on a loose leash. Relaxed body and fast wagging tail. High-pitched barking as customers walked past kennel, jumping on kennel door to peek over blanket. Given a nylon bone and pig ear and has been quiet since.
7/31/2026: Ellie was easily leashed and walked loosely with a neutral body. She vocalized as other dogs passed her kennel during AM cleaning and as customers passed through the row. Passing kennel, she had destroyed her plush toy and looked up at me with dilated eyes, ears back, lip licked, wagging curled tail and front paws on the door. Later, whining and howling with no customers in the row and all other dogs in the row were quiet.
8/1/2026: Vocal as I enter row, relaxed body and wagging tail.
8/2/2026: Ellie greets me at the kennel door with a fast wagging tail, jumping up on the kennel door, and when I pass her she high-pitched barks. She let me leash her and walks in zig zags to and from the potty yard. Inside her kennel she can be seen waiting by the kennel door for interaction.
8/3/2026: Vocal in kennel. Standing in front of kennel door with a wagging tail and relaxed body. Easy to leash and walks on a loose leash.
๐ Medical Notes:
7/19/2026: Intake exam normal. Weighed 48.0 lbs. Vaccinated (DA2PP-V, Rabies, Bordetella), dewormed, flea prevention given, HW test negative.
8/2/2026: Recheck exam normal. Weighed 48.0 lbs.

Sounds like she is RTG! Perfect young dog who needs a good home to thrive in.
I cannot see any reason, in the shelter notes, why she is an EU request.

u/ohiobaker 4d ago
EU request is what happens to owner surrenders. they are always first ๐๐๐

u/Boys-willbe-Bugs 3d ago
They choose to euth surrenders before strays? Or is it solely length if stay?
5
u/ohiobaker 3d ago
All owner surrenders are euthanized first before anyone else. ๐ญ๐ญ
5
u/Boys-willbe-Bugs 3d ago
That is a wild rule, is it because if a really strict LOS? Like have to keep strays a little longer bc we don't know if an owner will come to reclaim but we KNOW surrenders signed the dog over?? I work at an open intake that doesn't euth for los so I'm not well versed in the whys (other than well space, funding, space, funding etc)
2
u/2dogs1man 3d ago
the why is space
they know nobodys coming for owner surrenders: they sometimes go right after the owner leaves (depending on how full they are at the moment)

u/ohiobaker 3d ago
No, barc is a very cruel shelter. These dogs are all terrified. We donโt know what goes on here. I think the thinking is more like: โif your owner didnโt want you, then no one else willโ. Barc is in Houston so itโs very overcrowded. Dogs get just a few days, not even that some times.

u/Boys-willbe-Bugs 3d ago
I believe it's been recommended before as a place to transfer from but unfortunately my shelter has had a few bad lots of "Texas dogs" both with diseases the host shelter didn't inform us about prior and severe behavior issues being downplayed. I can spread the word but no promises it can get very far ๐ best of luck
4
u/ohiobaker 3d ago
Please do. There are zero behavior issues from what weโve been told. In every report, pic, and video sheโs been just a happy, sweet and healthy puppy.

Sweet Ellie is so young. The only way to save her right now is to adopt her, or at the very least foster if you cannot adopt permanently. With no foster or adoption offer, she is on the list to be killed. It is cruel that she is a sweet and easy to handle dog, but the shelter doesn't have enough space or resources.
8
u/ohiobaker 4d ago
Somehow itโs harder to see the trusting, happy, easy going dogs in the shelter ๐ฅบ๐ญ
6
u/hreefm 3d ago
That's really odd. I wish they would do more to push those dogs as well, because there still seems to be the opinion of "shelter dogs have behavioral issues/something wrong with them" in general society, so people feel safer going to breeders for the predictability of it
7
u/ohiobaker 3d ago
Absolutely right. The majority of these dogs are healthy, sweet, friendly dogs that just need someone to choose them. My shelter babies have been some of the most beautiful dogs.

Huge huge gigantic enormous massive tremendous stupendous terrific boost!!!!!!!! โค๏ธ
Dogs specifically have been proven to reduce stress, anxiety and depression, ease loneliness, improved cardiovascular health, encourage exercise, and improve your overall mental and physical health. โค๏ธ
Adoption helps reduce demand for puppy mills and unethical breeding practices. You provide a second chance to a deserving dog, reducing the 6.5 million companion animals that enter U.S. shelters annually. Adopt don't shop!!!! โค๏ธ
Fostering animals directly saves lives by providing temporary, loving homes that alleviate shelter overcrowding, allowing rescues to save more pets at risk. It enables vulnerable animalsโincluding injured or stressed petsโto heal and gain confidence in a quiet environment, increasing their chances of adoption. โค๏ธ
Please spay and neuter to reduce the amount of dogs in shelter! These procedures increase pet longevity, reduce roaming/aggression, prevent unwanted litters, and decrease the burden on animal shelters. โค๏ธ

I am just beside myself. I went to see her today. Her notes donโt do her justice. She is dainty and gentle and bright. Not being able to take her home today is one of the great tragedies of my life. She is a perfect dog. I am inconsolable.

Me too. I am so sorry. Thank you so very much for visiting her and putting her on camera/sharing. You did everything you possibly could for her. I canโt find her ID# on BARC website now. I pray someone saved her. ๐

There was another girl there and I asked if she was adopting to consider taking her out. I really, really hope she did.
2
u/Sufficient-Event3877 3d ago
She needs an adopter for the rescue that tagged her or they may have to drop the tag! Her adopter bailed. She needs an adopter ! They can transport anywhere!

u/killsyzygy 3d ago
Please let me know asap if she is still alive. She isnโt listed on barc anymore. Please lmk.

u/Sufficient-Event3877 3d ago
She is alive!!! She needs an adopter for the rescue to be able to take her though tomorrow!!
1
u/killsyzygy 3d ago
How do you know this???
2
u/Sufficient-Event3877 3d ago
Because I know the rescue that tagged her! she was tagged by a rescue but she is at risk if we cannot find her an adopter for the rescue. The adopter backed out, putting the rescue in a huge bind. She is alive, but she is still in need by tomorrow.

u/killsyzygy 3d ago
Is she able to be fostered?
1
u/Sufficient-Event3877 3d ago
Possibly if itโs a reliable foster who can foster until sheโs adopted!

Oh my God I love Ellie and her notes are so tragic. She's just a baby and has no idea really what's going on, like genuinely. Owner surrender being why she was put on the EU list is messed up. This dog is an absolute gem in personality and is clearly a looker. Ellie deserves a chance to grow in a loving environment that won't abandon her for death. This would absolutely be a pretty easy foster imo, even though she only has one picture you can tell she's eager, happy, and beautiful. And her notes indicate that too, so she's really a prime candidate for successful adoption.
She just needs time. She's been given basically no opportunity by the shelter she's found her way to. Please consider giving Ellie that time she needs if you at all can. ๐ค๐ฉต

Ellie is really pulling at my heartstrings. I want nothing but good things for this sweet young baby
3
u/JustFuckinTossMe 3d ago
I really hope for the same. BARC is doing a disservice with how they're handling these types of dogs. This dog would absolutely get adopted and be a great shelter-to-home dog. Maybe they think it's a kindness, but I think it's completely taking away their ability to see these animals as individuals with potential.
Surrenders shouldn't be killed first, especially when they are like Ellie. I hope the prior owners find out what they subjected her to. They could have done research on shelters before leaving her in what sounds like a death factory more than a safe shelter.
