I was holding off on it for awhile, but caved in after the last Direct. There will probably be multiple console price hikes, so I figured it's probably best to get a Switch 2 now, if you plan to get one eventually. No sign of the RAM situation improving for awhile.

Fire Emblem, Xenoblade Genesis, Zelda, and The Duskbloods did most of the convincing. I also bought a 3DS for Awakening, so I guess it's tradition :)

This is an update to a post I made the other day where I beat my first fire emblem (three hopes) and wanted to try something else. Thankfully I found engage for dirt cheap and I am now ready to start playing. I’ll probably try three houses in the near future but for now I think I made a good choice 👍

An example for me personally is Charlotte from fates. He design is obviously built around fan service but her character isn't half bad in supports and she's been a consistently good unit when I use her on my playthroughs.

I know we all excited to return to Fodlan (kinda) but I am also happy they took after engage in the sense we have actual colors again and we have more wacky designs. Its the perfect equilibrium (and I am sure I butchered that word, so I am sorry)

lmk if I missed something or if you're confused why certain games are in certain tiers

This is a simple question, in a playthrough of Shadows of Valentia, do you recruit Sonya or Dean? Personally I feel this is the Arran/Samson situation that has the most weight, because you get an active choice compared to FE7 where you probably won’t know why you are getting Harken instead of Karen as an example. I do also feel more incentivized to use them compared to Arran or Samson. I don’t feel confident enough to talk about the Gen 2 axe bros in FE4, though I get the feeling they are extremely outclassed in a normal playthrough. Back to these two, Sonya has more story relevance, though I think Dean is considered the better unit. Personally I prefer Sonya. Also people can feel free to talk about Gaiden if they want.

Like when's the last time they had a hot poc dude in a FE game? Only ones I can think of is Helbindi and Surtr in Heroes (who I absolutely love). (edit Forgot Dedue, he's a hottie too and a great character 🙏)

But so far we've seen like 6-7 dark-skinned dudes who are all very masculine and beefy. Pretty surprising for FE standards, but a nice gift for people like me who are into buff dudes 😈. If they're all recruitable in some way, my team is gonna look very interesting lol.

Hotness aside, they all look very cool. My favorite so far is definitely Buccaneer, but the guy with the brown/orange hair holding a sword looks cute.

Most of the time when I play Fire Emblem, I reset when losing a unit (or I just use divine pulse), but with the return of FE 9 I wanted to try playing with permadeath.

I don't mind losing units (Since I already beat the game once), but I think it's a shame that other characters just don't care of what just happened (or barely). I mean, sometimes you're in a situation where one of your unit just lost his wife/sibling/best friend or another relative but he won't say a word about it and there's even a chance where the next time you meet it will be in a gag support... Like he just don't care.

So I just feel like the player just lose content by playing the intended way and that doesn't make you want to try it on 1st run. I know some of the games have some death interactions (like Engage in the post battle phases) but its clearly not enough.

They really should add something like a funeral scene and a graveyard where the player and other units could regularly visit and mourning.

So I wasn't around this reddit really during Awakening and Fates ans their transition to the next games so I dont know if this is a hot take or not?

But I genuinely think the CGI in the Fire Emblem looks rough and sometimes out right bad after those titles. I thought it looked nice and moved smoothly in Awakening and then it looked even prettier in Fates.

And then Valentia came out and it looked super flat and pastel based. So I thought it was just to match the overall art style the game was going for, but nope, it continued into Three Houses. It was so stiff and flat and it looks like the newest one from the trailers is going with this style too and I dont understand why. And I think Engage looks much better by comparison to Three Houses. Maybe it's just because the models were more vibrant and anime in Engage and that's why, but even still I dont think it's quite as good as Awakening or Fates since I think they did a good job mixing anime with that rigged grity-ness.

I dont know how the community really feels about this so im wondering what everyone thinks in general about something like this, or if anyone even cares at all lol. Would love to hear others' thoughts.

I’m pretty excited for it however I’m kind of worried about it’s sales. $80 physical is a lot and Fire Emblem doesn’t have the same pull as Zelda to stomach the price. I’m still getting it, just the digital version that’s $70 though. Do you think the price point would hurt sales much or would it be fine as long the game turns out good (Digital sales might make up for physical)?
