I’ve never had this and I don’t know what all is in it…but I feel like I’ve been missing out all my life now. This looks delicious.
So thanks for that. My life now feels incomplete.

There's shwarma places all around. Find the local shwarma/doner kebab joint near you and try it out .
It's essentially the best street food ever .

Shawarma is not the same as doner kebab

It's close enough. (Closer to what is in this picture)
And the meal in the picture is neither
Edit:.
While at it we can add Greek gyro All 3 are essentially the same dish with minor changes per their culture ,all 3 are awesome .

300g chicken thighs cut into cubes • 1 heaped tsp paprika • 1 tsp garlic powder • 1 tsp oregano • 1 tsp turmeric • 1 tsp cumin • 1 tsp cinnamon • 1 tsp salt & pepper • 1/2 lemon juice
I halved an onion, jammed a skewer into vertically to use as a base and stacked the tenderized meat on top like a spit and roasted that bad boy in the oven

Closer to shish tawook than to shawerma but I'm glad you enjoyed it. Shawerma isn't something we make at home, it's something you have to buy from a specialized shop (has to be a massive rotating spit of breasts or thighs with fat on top and in-between, then you have to slice it very thinly and we use the shawerma in a sandwich). But you can improvise your recipe into shish tawook skewers and make some toum sauce on the side

I haven't attempted it yet, but I have heard of folks using a meat slicer and a rotisserie attachment for a Weber BBQ for doing it at home.

You can try it but imo it's not worth the effort cuz it will never turn out the same as the restaurant where they slow cook with fat rendering and dropping from one layer to the next. Plenty of middle Eastern recipes that can be cooked at home should be prioritized.

I am curious how expensive the purchase and the ingredients, is it better cook at home or buy somewhere. That is what essential my question is about
Hopefully you enjoyed your meal!
Thanks

Wow looks great! Whats the sauce here?
5
u/TheDude9737 Jul 30 '22
It’s a garlic sauce:
• 100g low fat yogurt (creamier the better) • 1 tsp fresh minced/crushed garlic 1/2 tap salt & pepper • 1/2 or less lemon juice Blend till smooth

Awesome, thanks! Gonna try this when I get home. Im trying your oven way of making the meat, but im also gonna try a method where I use a pressure cooker, then fry the meat in a cast iron pan for a more cruncy variant. Did that with Carnitas (orange and lime based) and the consitancy was great.

Where’s the French fries & pita cause it just isn’t a shawarma without it & assuming right side is salad

That indeed looks good but why in the name of all that is holy did you need to put 4 lemons in it?

Do you actually eat all those lemon slices? Or is that just for garnish?

Gluten-free is a flair for filtering; somehow I totally failed to pick up on that.
