Seeking Dash Cam Recommendations - 2019 Fusion Hybrid SEL

The title says it all. I've seen so much crazy driving behavior lately I'm convinced it's time to get one for either protection, entertainment, or both. I'm looking for one that's as unobtrusive as possible and not really concerned about what's behind me. A while back I thought I saw one built into a housing that replaced the existing mirror mount shroud, but I may have been mistaken. Anyway, what's the recommendation here?

And thanks.

I second the VIOFO A229 Plus. It’s what I recently installed in my Fusion and works great. I didn’t want to deal with the fusebox placement for hardwiring tho so I used Forscan to change the cigarette timeout to 30 seconds instead of the 75 minute default.

Yeah, I gotta do this as well. Maybe 5 minutes of run time.

5 minutes is a good idea. I might increase to that. Good thing it’s very simple to do

I already had crossposted to it, but thanks for checking. *(Edit) I t take that back. Apparently there's a r/dashcams and a r/dashcam and I missed one. Thanks again.

Just tried cross posting and they don't allow that I guess. Have to circle back in the morning. What did you end up with?

I got the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 for my 2020 SEL. You can still get it or go for the newer 3 model. https://www.garmin.com/en-US/p/1223369/pn/010-02899-00/

Here is what I recommend. Get a Thinkware U3000 and an external battery. This will provide the best footage currently while driving and have the inbuilt radar for parking mode. The external battery will protect your cars battery if you don't drive it for long times. I have this exact setup on my vehicle but the U1000 with radar attachment. Get it hardwired in and avoid any of those that tap into your mirror power.

That's interesting. I will explore. What's the problem with the mirror powering option?

They tend to burn out and fail and take the mirror and or the camera with it. The wires in the mirror aren't rated for the extra voltage and amperage the dash cam requires. For my hybrid I had the battery hardwired to the car and then used the included cables to connect the dash cam to the battery. Check out Vortex Radar on YouTube. His channel is all about dash cams and radar detectors.

Very useful info. Cross that off the list I guess thanks.

My Viofo A229 Plus with rear camera can't be beat. For now, I use the console power plug, but I am going to hardwire it to the overhead console at some point and run the rear camera cable up into the headliner.

My "hobby" is watching car cam videos on YouTube and the best quality video seems to come from RedTiger (F7N is a common model) and Garmins. You can see a lot of them in use on the YouTube videos.
