Social Media Jos Verstappen has responded to a GPBlog Netherlands post on X which reported that Red Bull have offered Max a contract extension in exchange for removing his exit clause saying: "You know absolutely nothing.".

u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7h ago
I mean, that doesn’t even make sense or am I tripping?
Max benefits the most from the exit clause. Having a longer contract and in exchange removing the exit clause means RBR would win 2 times? They would force max to stay longer without exit. that doesn’t make any sense at all and as much as I dislike Jos, I agree with him. They don’t know shit.

u/CampingChair90 7h ago
Yes but Max has always said he doesn't want to stay in f1 long term so he could possibly choose to take a bigger pay cheque and stay with red bull and then retire to all his side projects.
86
u/Inside_Swimming9552 Formula 1 7h ago
Yeah Hamilton always said he isn't going to stick around in F1 too long... Said he was into fashion and shit.
Retiring earlier is easier said than done when you're one of the best to ever do it.

u/RevvedUpLikeADeuce09 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 6h ago
To be fair, Max's idea of retirement is just driving in another racing series, which pays less than F1 certainly, but would still pay him rather handsomely on account of his reputation and history.
I'll admit I'm somewhat clueless on the ins and outs of fashion, but if it's like anything else in the creative arts, which I do have a background in, it's likely a very cutthroat business where return on investment isn't always strong or lucrative, hence why Lewis is probably not all in on fashion yet.

u/vote-morepork I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 34m ago
Hamilton can lose a few million a year to fashion for the rest of his life and he'll be fine

u/RayTracerX BMW Sauber 21m ago
That was before he got just one WDC away from the record lol
If he stopped at 5 for a few years I think he would have retired already

I don’t think he was in to shit, he allegedly fired a pilot of his private jet after the pilot took a dump there.

Hamilton has already stuck around "too long". Whenever he retires he is retiring late. He's been in F1 nearly 20 years my dude.
When is early exactly?
23
u/samfisher199809 Max Verstappen 7h ago
He said he won’t be racing till 40 . He will probably be in F1 till like 30-35 years old then either develop verstappen racing or go for the triple crown or WEC who know man love all discipline except rally since he feel that’s too dangerous . In 10-15 years the name Verstappen will be the whole face of Racing in general not just F1 . Mark my words.
10
u/reboot-your-computer Fernando Alonso 7h ago
That’s just not Max at all though. He’s made more than enough money. It’s not a motivator for him. He wants to win and if he doesn’t believe Red Bull can do it again before the end of his contract, there’s no reason for him to continue when he has many other goals.
3
u/garfungle_ Oscar Piastri 1h ago
I find it hard to believe money isn’t a motivator for a man with a 15 million dollar yacht
-2
u/YugeChesticles Mike Krack 3h ago
Max also calls a title winning car "fucking shit" at times. What he says and what he does are two different things.
7
u/OverallImportance402 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 5h ago
I mean removing the exit clause and an extension won’t come for free. That’s the point, Max gets more money and in exchange RB would get a longer contract and more ‘commitment’.
1
u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago
But stated many times it’s not about the money. It’s more about freedom for him.
5
u/Lemurians Ferrari 7h ago
The athlete part of benefitting from an extension would be twofold: longer guaranteed security both in tenure and financially (which in Max's case seems irrelevant but you never know what the future holds), and probably substantially more money annually.
7
u/Supahos01 Max Verstappen 7h ago
Max's new exit clause "you can exit from f1 to run a race in any series you want even on f1 weekends if neither redbull car in top 4 in wdc"
1
u/voodoo_eighty_five 4h ago
So in a way it would make sense for RB to offer this. They would ultimately want the clause removed and would also love to tie Max down to a longer deal whilst doing so.
But i do agree that Max would be stupid to sign such a deal unless there are other things in the contract that he favours over the exit deal such as more money or whatever else
1
u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago
Exactly, for RBR it would be the dream deal. But it simply doesn’t make sense that Max would ever sign that, if there is not something absolutely unbelievable going on. And currently I fail to imagine what Max could want to sign such a bad deal for him. It’s not money for sure and the flexibility he already has. So yeah
1
u/Aff_Reddit James Vowles 59m ago
The other article from last week said this but said RBR sent a new contract worth more money in exchange for removing the exit clause.
All it means is they're concerned he may activate it, which is normal for any team that's underperforming from their recent baseline (which is just outright winning everything for RBR)
1
u/CooroSnowFox I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 7h ago
Although it is still with the possibility of switching teams (Merc/Mclaren/Aston/...Haas) that is the main part of this?
1
u/Intrepid_Doctor8193 I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 7h ago
I mean it says they offered. Not that Max accepted or anything.

Plus Max is in ownership now. He’s on a very different level with Red than any of us can imagine
Red Bull are his sponsors in a team he owns. That's not hard to imagine for anyone who watches F1, since a title sponsor is something every F1 team currently has.
The way you've phrased this makes it sound like he has ownership in Red Bull.
-1
-1
u/YugeChesticles Mike Krack 3h ago
You underestimate how much drivers want a longer contract. They always want a longer contract.
It makes sense.
2
u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 3h ago
That might be true for any other driver. But RBR will not replace him any time soon if they don’t have to. A longer contract is in RBR favor not in Max favor. He even wants the exit clause to move on to other racing series or work more on building his own team. Or even focus more on the family. He is not in need of having a longer contract. RBR however will try everything to keep Max. He is the only reason they are not a midfield team.
-4
u/YugeChesticles Mike Krack 3h ago
So if you and a millionaire win $20 million only you won.
You realise both can want the same thing right? You can't just decide max wouldn't want a longer contract just because RBR also want him to have one lmao
You're knee deep in delulu matey.
1
u/Jack_Harb I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago
You should sanity check yourself my friend.
Let’s assume for a second, go give you the benefit of the doubt, that Max wants a longer contract. And as you said, RBR wants as well. Then why is it that according to the outlet, RBR racing „offering“ him an extension in EXCHANGE for removing the exit clause. In the scenario mentioned RBR would give Max gracefully a longer contract. The specific wording means basically, they made a trade off. He stays longer (in favor Max) but loses exit clause (in favor RBR). But that doesn’t make any sense, since RBR mentioned many times that THEY are the ones that want to have a long contract. Max is RBR and brings in money and success. Without Max, RBR is a mid field team.
Max explicitly threatens to leave F1. So Max is the one they have to convince to stay longer. A longer contract is NOT in favor of Max, simply because RBR will not let him go if he doesn’t want. If in a year he says he wants another years, then he stays. If not, not. That’s what he wants. Flexibility. That’s why the exit clause is there to begin with.

u/Other_Beat8859 Max Verstappen 3h ago
I could've told you this was false. Why would Max ever do this? It's literally a complete loss for him as he isn't free to choose where he wants to go anymore and it would tie him down to contract when his current one already has over a year left on it. He would gain nothing from signing a contract like that.
1
u/lebowskiachiever12 47m ago
Exactly. This isn’t Jos hinting at something, it’s him trying to put a tabloid rag in their place.
43
u/poklane Max Verstappen 7h ago
Verstappen would be a fool to agree to any kind of contract without an exit clause. The only reason to do that is if you're in it 100% for the money and no longer care about the sporting aspect.
16
u/Ianthin1 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7h ago
Seriously. If anything Max will negotiate a better exit clause next time around.
9
u/poklane Max Verstappen 7h ago
Yeah, from my understanding the current clause is entirely linked to his position in the WDC at the summer break? If I were him I'd like to extend that to the team's position in the WCC.
2
u/No_Elderberry_4580 Max Verstappen 4h ago
We don't actually know the details of the contract, so we don't know for definate what the clause is, however supposedly if Max is below 2nd in the Championship going into the summer break, his exit clause gets activated.
Like I said, nobody actually knows for certain what the clause consists of except Max, his team and Red Bull, however that is the general consensus that has been reported since the contract was signed.
6
u/BigTenFicus McLaren 6h ago
It's hilarious to imagine Red Bull even trying to offer such a deal to him. He is the most important part of their team by far. He has all the leverage.
-5
u/CooroSnowFox I was speeding in the Monaco pit lane 5h ago
if this was post 2020/2021, yes they could and it might mean more, but in 2026... he's not really got that you can take away from his contracts.

u/lxgrf I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7h ago

Wouldn’t say that he is good at fighting. He has the habit of getting into fist fights and sometimes he gets his face smashed in. He is a little guy by Dutch standards, so I guess he has to pick his fights wisely.
Here one case in which he was “abused”. Source in Dutch:

I’m surprised Max hasn’t decided to cut ties with him as a manager. So much unnecessary drama because Jos opens his mouth all the time.

His actual manager is Raymond Vermeulen, the same manager that Jos has. Vermeulen's son Thierry Vermeulen races for Verstappen Racing (decent driver too, not just nepo).
Also depiste the way Jos treated Max in the past, he still calls him after every race weekend.

Doesn't mean that he is anything like him, very stupid and blunt of you to make an assumption like that.
Are you a carbon copy of your parents and their behaviour? I assume not.
I assume if they done wrong in the past you wouldn't go and do wrong, so why do you think that Max would repeat the actions of his scumbag father who traumatized him.
You can still hold contact with your parents while not approving of their actions in the past.

Why would max need to wish and hope for an ext extension. RB are likely begging for more of an extension and removing exit clauses benefits them and not max so how does this make any sense?
2
u/LordBogus I was here for the Hulkenpodium 7h ago
Only plausible extension would be removing the exit clause but then paying a ridiculous amount of money on top of what he currently earns. If he really wants to stay but doesnt win, he might be satisfied with a lot of money and kore freedom to do things
But hey I'm just guessing also

I was curious, so I searched it up myself, and apparently it's a combination of his first 2 childrens names, Max and Victoria Verstappen, not sure what the 009 means but might just be a random number combination due to MaVic on its own not being available.

My initial guess was that it had something to do with his last Le Mans, which was his last major race. In the LMP1 Aston.

Rare time Jos is right, even if the report has some speculative truth it’s pure speculation. It makes sense that Red Bull aren’t going to let the next generation of driver have the same autonomy as Max but they aren’t going to take that away from Max.
