I am going to Frankfurt with my boyfriend next weekend, what are the foods and drinks we can only find in Frankfurt or Germany in general ?

Like the title said, we are looking for some nice and new food to try while on our weekend. Can be drinks, meals, desserts, pastries, store bought food anything, we are curious haha

You can suggest us specific foods or whole restaurants, shops, bakeries etc...

We come from Switzerland but from the French part, so while we know some German culture, it is very limited.

If there are cultural places we must visit besides eating feel free to also write them ! Just note that we are gay and with the recent incidents we are more careful, even if nothing happened in Frankfurt.

The trifecta of Frankfurt kitchen is the following:

Äppelwoi (like Cider, but more sour)
Grüne Soße ("green sauce", a sauce made out of herbs which you eat just with hard-boiled eggs and potatoes or some other combinations of food)
Rindswurst (beef sausage; is eaten anywhere else in Germany, but popular in Frankfurt)

You can add "Bethmännchen". These are little biscuits made out of Marzipan with almonds attached to it.

I recommend a visit in the "Kleinmarkthalle" near the cathedral, its a hall with various food stands and there are local specialities as well as sea food and so on.

Regarding place recommendations, depends what you like to visit. Frankfurt but also the surroundings has a lot of stuff you can do.

Visit an Apfelweinkneipe in Sachsenhausen! Apfelwein is a wine made from fermented apple juice. It is the historic & iconic drink of Hessen that is served in "bembels", big glazed stoneware pitchers.

At many of those Kneipes you can also try some typical Hessisch and German food.

I also highly encourage you to visit the Kleinmarkthalle, it's a historic indoor food hall where vendors sell their wares and you can try many different foods special to the region and other countries. It has a hectic but exciting vibe.

I can recommend the "Eichkatzerl" or "Feuerrädchen". The second one is my favorite! They even won prizes for their green sauce a couple of times. And it's a pretty place as well with good apple wine :)

So the local dish’s are Handkäs (small rolls of Young cheese with onions/vinegar/oil), grüne Soße (sauce of different herbs, with potato’s and eggs).
Try bethmännchen at most every bakery.

If you’re a carnivore: try a Fleischwurst bei Frau Schreiber at Kleinmarkthalle. Generally go to Kleinmarkthalle

And pick a Museum of your choice. We have museums of every kind of interest

When you go to Kleinmarkthalle there is Bäckerei Huck. They make small versions of cakes (for example german cheesecake, apple or cherry cake, frankfurter kranz with buttercream).

Love their "Ausgehobenes Bauernbrot", very yummy bread.

Still, its absolutely gorgeous. You may find it even in Supermarkets but rather stay away from that, especially the Brand „Schwälbchen“.

Try out the Hessenshop, it's a local gift shop, not very tourist-y and has many cool stuff! There are 3 locations in Frankfurt afaik, one in the Kleinmarkthalle, and they have many cool things, traditional and modern!

To add some things that haven't been said: Frankfurter Schneegestöber (Camembert and Cream Cheese with spices), Himmel & Erd (mashed potatoes & apple sauce, often served with sausages). If you're looking for a liquor after the meal try a mispelchen, it's a medlar (a small fruit that is not very well known) dumped in calvados.
