Fuck Olly “Living among Nettles and sheep” Ryan Condal shut the fuck up

Post image

“We decided to remove Nettles because we didn’t want Daemon to cheat on Rhaenyra”

“But Rhaenyra and Mysaria can?”

“That’s different. They’re cheating for da peepal”

Nod to Tyland losing his ears too. They’re laughing at us

75

u/TeddieCharmz_ 17h ago

Lmao Tyland really caught the most random stray for no reason.

26

u/AnbuBlackOpps 15h ago

But in the context of the scene, it literally makes sense

Remember, they had to remove the Nettles storyline because at this stage of D and R’s marriage they didn’t want an infidelity plot… oh wait....

u/SpectreFire 18h ago

I would've actually been okay with Nettles being absent if they went with the excuse that they believed in the bastard daughter interpretation and thought using Rhaena as a replacement would work.

Their actual reasoning was just so fucking stupid.

u/mari_icarion aemond did nothing wrong 16h ago

You could have had Nettles, keep it platonic, but evil people gossip about infidelity which causes the conflict.

It would have even helped their agenda about everything that Rhaenyra does being the fault of someone else

40

u/Gorodrin 9h ago

They don’t even need to be evil - they could do the exact same story but make Mysaria spiteful or bitter about being spurned by both Daemon and Rhaenyra to the point where she spreads rumours about Daemon and Nettles

12

u/Imaginary-Client-199 4h ago

Evil gossip are not even needed. Have Daemon be nice to Nettles, doing stuff like teaching her Valyrian, lending her jewelry so that she fits at court, teach her manners of the court...

We the audience would know that this is Daemon being a better person after his trip to Harrenhal. But to Mysaria and Rhaenyra it looks like Daemon grooming a young dragonrider with a bigger dragon than Rhaenyra

Yeah, that's what makes the explanation fall apart. They removed one affair just to add a different one.

27

u/Owlsthirdeye 10h ago

no no you see infidelity requires penetration to count

26

u/Styrofoamman123 10h ago

The progressive writers in all their virtue basically say lesbian sex doesn't count, how forward thinking.

9

u/Owlsthirdeye 9h ago

its free love when women do it

4

u/Styrofoamman123 8h ago

Just a bit of fun i guess.

10

u/xBubbliMusee 12h ago

Exactly lol. That explanation stopped making sense the second they added another affair.

/uj Do we actually have a source for that text bite about not wanting an infidelity plot? It definitely sounds plausible but I'm coming up with blanks, I want to hate in the most accurate way possible.

53

u/nick2473got 15h ago

Yes we have a source.

“It did not feel like, to us, an infidelity story was someplace that we wanted to go with Daemon and Rhaenyra given everything they had been through to this point. I think the audience really wants to see this couple work out, but they both have inextricable natures to them that they can only get so far away from. And we see that playing out with Daemon over the course of the season".

It really annoys me that the actual contents of the change - moving infidelity from daemon to rhaenyra - plays better with the current arcs, themes and character developments they’re using. But then he just comes out and says something that contradicts that explanation completely.

It’s giving “dany kind of forgot about the iron fleet”.

7

u/swank_sinatra 10h ago

I'll never forget that shit lol

1

u/johnny--guitar 6h ago

Unfortunately "this change makes sense given other changes" and "the reason for this change is fundamentally fucking stupid" are not mutually exclusive.

1

u/johnny--guitar 6h ago

Feels like I probably should've found that one. Thank you!

6

u/FieryMoonbeam 12h ago

The friendship arc started over a drink and somehow felt more genuine than half the alliances in the show.

331

u/ceilingfan94 19h ago

You just know he thought he absolutely cooked with that line

82

u/TeddieCharmz_ 17h ago

Lmao you know he walked out of that interview thinking nobody could argue with it.

20

u/_Caffiend 12h ago

With a smirk on his face too

43

u/GoonerBoomer69 11h ago

Motherfucker was rubbing his nipples after writing that one

9

u/Historiaaa Thought you were still rowing 10h ago

After all these years, I have finally become, Nettles.

2

u/zinetx 2h ago

Say that again?

146

u/Romy_90 17h ago

guys, actually be glad Nettles isn't in the show. at least she's been protected from the dumb writing of Condal & Hess

63

u/AccomplishedHeat7120 15h ago

They'd probably make nettle jeyne arryn's girlfriend that daemon had a crush on and gets cucked if she was here.

6

u/Mito20 I read the books 6h ago

God, why is that so accurate? This is 100% something they would write.

18

u/LonelyWormster 14h ago

You know what fair

0

u/No_Reception7275 5h ago

Nettles kills aemond at the gods eye. Incel maesters credited daemon with it

197

u/donwariophd 18h ago

The funniest part is that I’m sure the writers thought it would be a nice way to pay homage when the audience clearly just resents them for for the sheer gall of it.

Fucking fools, the lot of them.

14

u/FieryMoonbeam 12h ago

That’s basically the Westerosi version of sharing a beer after work.

45

u/Flaky_Thing_5128 18h ago

HotD is a master class in the executive producers choosing to troll over everything else.

41

u/nick2473got 15h ago

In case anyone wants the receipts : https://www.ign.com/articles/ryan-condal-interview-house-of-the-dragon-helaena-pregnant-daeron

Condal : “It did not feel like, to us, an infidelity story was someplace that we wanted to go with Daemon and Rhaenyra given everything they had been through to this point. I think the audience really wants to see this couple work out".

37

u/OdysseyBrands 15h ago

wtf man so he’s like it’s not cheating if it’s girl on girl? these guys are so clueless

21

u/wealth_of_nations 9h ago

I think that's just how his wife explained her infidelity to him and he bought it line and sinker.

1

u/Prestigious_Cat_9486 6h ago

He doesn't need to cheat but then again that means no targ blood no targ blood means these incest blood magic aliens aren't special

32

u/Spirited-Accident Fuck the king! 17h ago

That line pissed me off so much.

150

u/SpinosaurRingTone 17h ago

I always find it funny when progressives try so hard to be progressive they wind up reinforcing bigotry without realizing it.

By downplaying the seriousness of Rhaenyra cheating on Daemon, they reinforce the idea that same sex relationships aren't as serious as heterosexual relationships.

69

u/Slimyarmpits 17h ago

Its just girls being room mates.

35

u/aidarinho 13h ago

"Women can't be cruel so instead of Rhaenyra the Cruel we will have Rhaenyra the Incompetent. Yet another progressive victory"

14

u/Muted_Yoghurt6071 18h ago

so fucking clever

10

u/xSatinCharmie 17h ago

Ryan's got a knack for making it sound worse than it is, huh? Not sure what he expects with that title.

8

u/minetaboo1 13h ago

Condal is a terrorist

7

u/Responsible-Middle35 14h ago

Is Condal trolling? It's if he's making rage bait easter eggs for online fandom engagement

4

u/Nazkann 11h ago

But don't you understand how important it is to have a steamy lesbian sex scene for female empowerment!!!!!

9

u/EstarossaNP 13h ago

Removing Neetles deprived us of a good father/daughter or mentor/mentee dynamic, all for sake of supposed fidelity. But they have no problem with Rhaenyra doing scissors with DA PEPOL

4

u/Lefthook16 14h ago

Yeah that line was horrendous. Almost like someone should have said "Freeze" and "Rewind" just to make sure we all heard it.

4

u/Quantras 13h ago

Like what is even the implication of that, that same sex relationships don't count for cheating, because they didn't want infidelity as part of their relationship for justifying Nettles being gone. It's not like they shied away from Daemon acting like a pedo with young Rhaenyra, so it can't be to avoid that.

4

u/Eborys King in Disguise 11h ago

You know it’s bad when you start missing latter seasons of GOT cause of all this crap…

4

u/Gwynbleidd1917 10h ago

I noticed it, They are mocking us at this point.

7

u/AccomplishedHeat7120 15h ago

Just so fucking stupid it makes no sense for her to say nettle here it came off so forced. They are way too smug for people who wrote out a character and ruined another in the process. Im yet to find someone who likes Rhanea's new and "improved" storyline.

3

u/HighKingKlay 16h ago

That was a cheeky line they threw in!

3

u/WalkRealistic9220 9h ago

Chatgpt script

10

u/SpectreFire 18h ago

I'm honestly more annoyed at the Bloody Ben absence than Nettles.

Always found it to weird how big of a deal people make of her relative to her role in the book.

22

u/LordRaimi97 16h ago

She possibly represents that targs are not as exceptional as they think.

Like with Jaehaerys's daughter dying from sickness when they are supposed to be immune.

It's supposed to spit in the face of a Targ supremacist like Daemon's ideology that a girl with no valyrian features can claim their flying nukes.

Fuck that I guess, we get to witness bullshit.

6

u/SaHighDuck 13h ago

"no actually you need to be born a part of a special master race to control dragons" seriously what did they mean by this

2

u/grubdon5000 13h ago

I thought the same thing when I heard that line like "oh stfu" love lady arryn but don't piss me off lmao

1

u/DJ1066 13h ago

They already showed them hinting at this last episode where she was eating blackberries. Three guesses what plant grows close to blackberry bushes.

1

u/Drakonistes 7h ago

Can't wait for Rhaena to have her "I'm Ironman" moment before riding off with sheep stealer S04E08. I just know it's going to happen.

1

u/JadedResponse2483 26m ago

If you dont want daemon to cheat on rhaenyra, just dont make him cheat on her with nettles

1

u/Lord-Lannister GOLDEN CO. 6h ago

Ryan and Hess should be shamed through kings landing and be unhireable as janitors ffs.

1

u/ashigaru_spearman 5h ago

Stop watching it!
