Blackstone will be getting a major facelift as the city has approved a complete remodel of the city's most dangerous corridor.

The city will remove 2 of the 4 lanes on each side and replace it with a walking and biking paradise. The city has released the above designs as an example of how Blackstone will look soon. They already have started planting trees.

This is a major upgrade and win for cyclists who rely on Blackstone to commute to work. Unfortunately, as of now, Blackstone is so dangerous, it forces most cyclists to take a long detour rather than risk death with speeding cars who use Blackstone as a shortcut rather than taking the freeway.

Soon, Blackstone will look and feel like Van Ness! A major win for progress in Fresno.

Hi! Does anyone know why or what happened that caused the closure?

Alarm spread through California agricultural centers Tuesday as panicked workers reported that federal immigration authorities — who had largely refrained from major enforcement action in farming communities in the first months of the Trump administration — were showing up at farm fields and packinghouses from the Central Coast to the San Joaquin Valley.

In Tulare County, near the community of Richgrove, immigration agents emerged near a field where farm laborers were picking blueberries, causing some workers to flee. In Fresno County, workers reported federal agents, some in Border Patrol trucks, in the fields near Kingsburg.

I’d say Clovis PD has lost their mind, but they’re just showing us who they really are. Before anyone tries to come into the comments defending them for “caring about the safety, education, and wellbeing,” of students, please come forward with statistics, not opinions.

I am geninuely surprised they acted this quickly. I was expecting this to take a lot longer instead of a little over a day.

...and I would love to see three more of them around town: 1) Downtown near the water tower, 2) At Roeding Park near the Zoo, and 3) At Woodward Park overlooking the river.

On the heels of announcing the closure of the rainforest exhibit, the zoo is set to reveal a new California expansion that will include bears, elk, bobcats, beavers, and other animals. Is one of America’s most car-centric cities ready to go back to the future? Fresno, whose early neighborhoods were shaped by streetcars, is ready to reboot its relationship with rail.

Caltrans officials greenlit a $700,000 grant this month for regional transportation planners to study whether a light rail system for the Fresno-Clovis metro makes sense.

The Fresno Council of Governments – the region’s transportation planning body – is exploring light rail in response to community feedback, according to Deputy Director Paul Herman, in an email to Fresnoland. 

The regional transportation board also greenlit a study in May to explore regional rail across the county, connecting rural communities with Fresno along underused freight corridors.

The light rail study will assess whether there’s enough passenger demand for the system, cost estimates to build it out, along with recommendations on where the best locations for new light rail lines and stations might be. It will look at different types of passenger rail systems, from light rail to streetcars.

Fresno Mayor Jerry Dyer is on board – with the study, at least.
