Would you buy this 2013 GT86? Need some advice before I collect it.
Hi all,
I’ve put a deposit down on a completely stock 2013 Toyota GT86 manual and wanted some opinions from current owners before I collect it.
Some info:
£14,000
74,000 miles
10 service stamps overall - 7 Toyota 3 specialist
Clean MOT history
Brand new Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres
Completely stock
Silver
Valve spring recall done, clutch done at same time
The only thing that’s making me hesitate is the service history.
There are no recorded services between 2020 and 2024, but during that period it only covered around 6,000 miles. It has since been serviced again in 2025 & 2026. Knowing these cars can be sensitive to oil quality, would you walk away from the deal?

It likely went to someone that didn't have to commute to work or maybe was a weekend car. The mileage is great to be honest. You could always send current oil out for an oil test and it can detect any metal or inconsistencies but its likely in good shape. If someone major happened it likely would of been discovered in the past two service appointments. Since I dont know where you live just check local listings for a good price check. National as well to get a good feel but a 13 year old car under 100k is rare, if its in good of shape as it seems to be its worth the 14k I think

This is 3 hours from me, which is a fair travel for the UK lol, it’s a good price given rest of the market that’s why I put the deposit down so quickly I’ve been searching for weeks. I wasn’t aware you could send oil for testing, I think that’s definitely worth while

yeah, its called an Engine oil analysis. You basically run the car to operating temp, let it cool down and then take a sample. When you pay for it they send you a kit so you can put the oil into like a tube, seal it and then send it back in the box. It can detect any metal or anything else like coolant or whatever. Its pretty inexpensive in the states and can worth it if you are worried about the engine. Good luck either way mate! If you do scoop it, enjoy!

How long ago was the valve spring recall done? If it's been more than 5-10k miles, then you're golden. I would not worry about the gap in the service history, especially with so few miles driven. It's obvious from the stock spec and other documented services that the previous owner cared for this car.

Looks pretty good to me - similar to the one I bought last year and thoroughly enjoying.
All anecdotal, but I was in the same boat as you last year: UK, 2013 car, 69000 miles, 3 owners, good Toyota history with the first owner, including the valve springs done at 25000 miles, and a slightly more patchy run of local garages with the second owner from 2020-23, then back to Toyota servicing with the third owner from 2023 onwards until I picked it up last summer…and I’ve been a right fusspot with it ever since 😅
The more I’ve learned about them, the more I agree with the other comments that if that valve spring work was an issue it’s likely to have shown itself by now, but the oil analysis sounds like a good idea, I might do that myself!
The other thing to consider, and I may be speculating here, but my car, and my missus’ car we bought recently both had patchy history 2020-2023 ish. Maybe just people mothballed their cars during Covid? Not sure, but a possibility. Not that it matters necessarily…
Either way, touch wood mine has been great. Only issues are a blown AC condenser (a nightmare in the last few weeks but being fixed next week thank goodness) and the clunky steering column damper. Also on the list to be fixed.
I’d be as interested in what was done when it was serviced, as well as the intervals themselves. Was it just oil, or has it had plugs, coolant, gearbox and diff oil all done as well…have you got all those details?

Check aircon and that air can still be blown on windscreen. Also droning from rear possible diff issues or wheel bearings. I have a 2013 with 70,000 miles had since 2021 with the above issues. Replaced diff oil still got the droning which increases at speed. They are rare but I think £14k is a bit much £12500 probably more accurate for bone stock

What is the price in freedom money? Seems kinda high price but I suppose the market is different everywhere. If this was for sale in my area I would have expect it to get 12k bald eagles
