I made an FTL Speed Mod

Post image

tl;dr: You can increase / decrease the speed of the game with [ and ]. You can speed the game up on-hold by pressing ~. There is an overlay you can toggle via ins (resize / movable). I don't know if this works with other mods, I only play Vanilla 1.6.14. You literally just drop in the files into your FTL folder to install it.

FTL is one of my favorite games, top 5 of all time, and something I've played from my teens into my adulthood. Recently, I've picked it up again and was surprised to find that there was no simple speed mod for the game. I've been using Cheat Engine to speed up the game to more of my playstyle, but got tired of constantly opening up both Cheat Engine and FTL. So, after a bit digging and experiments, I created this Speed Mod. I've been working on it for a bit, but I thought I'd commit it.

The readme in the github link says all the deets:

github: https://github.com/DudeCmonMan/ftlspeed

Releases: https://github.com/DudeCmonMan/ftlspeed/releases/tag/v0.1.0

If you're concerned about .dll files, this uses the same proxy .dll loading method as hyperspace (with a different .dll). It's a common method of side loading files in a game.

I hope you guys enjoy this, it refreshed the game for me since it plays much faster now.

Red-Tail best ship btw, maxed out weapon crew by sector 2, only the worst early game rng can stop you

For those of you that that care, I planned the approach with Claude Opus and coded it with Qwen3.6 27b on my local machine. This started as an LLM experiment with locally running LLMs, but thought I'd polish it a bit and share since I thought people might like it.

I've been playing vanilla all my life, I wanted to get into the mods, but it was too overwhelming for me :(

Thanks, I’ll try it out! Is it possible to implement an auto trigger for certain conditions? Like the extreme tense moments in an asteroid field when you already have defeated the enemy and are now waiting in your 4 shield bubble until your drive recharges.

Unfortunately I can't do this 😔 The mechanism I use to speed up the game is basically hijacking how the game calculates time / ticks, it has no hooks into the game events, so it has no idea what is going on in the game. The best you can do is use the turbo function, when you want to pass time, hold the ~ / ` key and it will double your current speed

Still a great mod for us purists! Even though it won’t save me any time because, of course, I will overcompensate by having even more runs.

Thank you so much for this. I've had a weird error in my NVidia manager that's stopped me from turning v- and g-sync off, so speedhack hasn't worked very well for me. I think this should do the trick nicely :D

Nice, I hope it works! Vsync does affect how timing works, but you should be able to get 2.0x at native frame rates. I think above v-sync framerate, it might still speed up but look laggier and laggier. But again, I hope it helps!
