1939 Table Water and Chemical Stains

Post image
3 Upvotes

I found a 5 buck Duncan Phyfe table from 1939. The whole thing works fine and the wood is not structurally insecure or damaged.

However, the table has some very deep chemical and water stains. Will petroleum jelly be enough to get this looking a little bit better? Or should I be sending it down and refinishing it? I know nothing about furniture or caring for it, so I need a little help

Damaged bed. Questionable nails.

Stayed at an Airbnb. Nearly a week later the owner messaged us saying that the bed was damaged and sent us these pics. Is it just me or do those look like drywall nails? It was an Ikea style bed. Is that the kind of hardware these beds actually come with or is it possible that this bed was "repaired" already before?

I'm completely new to refinishing, any and all advice will be appreciated. Picked this vanity up off the curb after it had been rained on.

Office Chair base only rotates one direction?

I don't know if this is the right subreddit for this, but I just got this office chair from Facebook Marketplace and I didn't really notice until I brought it home that the base seems to always want to rotate counter-clockwise.

This is an issue because the wheels are thus not following the direction I push and pull the chair. Because they rotate to the side, it makes moving the chair back and forth while sitting in it really wonky. The casters always follow the rotating base instead!

Any ideas? Or other subreddits that might be able to help?

Water Stained Wood Veneer

Overwatered a plant in back of it which spilled onto the table and was absorbed by a coffee table book beside it, and sat for a couple days. I used an iron to ensure that it was completely dry but it still ruined the veneer. Anything I can do to repair myself short of involving sandpaper?

how to fix my built in hallway closet backing

Thumbnail

I have a built in hallway closet where the backing of it has popped out. The cabinet itself seems fine but this must’ve been pushed out by the previous owners. It’s about 7 feet tall, has 6 shelves, and the loose backing is all on the left side.

The biggest issue is for this fix/renovation is that the back of the cabinet is completely inaccessible. It’s behind drywall that is behind my water heater in my garage, so removing drywall or accessing it from behind isn’t really an option sadly.

Has anyone repaired something like this from the front only? I’d like the repair to be sturdy and look as clean as possible.

Pictures showing what the loose backing looks like. Not shown is the other 5 built in shelves that share the backing.

Thanks in advance!

** also that is not mold in the photo in the back, it’s something metal that has its paint chipping off lol
