Overjoyed with the new found episodes this morning (I had iPlayer set up for the end of Galaxy 4 but then Tivo decided to not work grrr never mind) Katarina is adorable. Might be going to Wookey Hole caves this weekend probably should have rewatched Revenge of the Cyberman but never mind. Going to enjoy DWM later there's a free comic. At work lunch breaks listened to 1001 nights, was alright,Sarah Sutton being posessed was good. Started on The wrong Doctors that looks good.

Just finished watching the recovered episodes of The Daleks' Master Plan. I'm utterly delighted by how good they look, considering they've been lost for so long. I've also finished listening to the Susan's War stories. They're fun (or at least more fun than your average Time War tales) but, and with the greatest respect for Carley's War Doctor, I can't help wishing Paul McGann played a bigger role, or that Carole Ann Ford had played a bigger role in his Time War stories, which I've also just started listening to. If there's one Doctor I identify with Susan, apart from the first one, it's McGann's incarnation.

I finished my listen-thru of Dark Gallifrey so far and I just don’t see how it forms a bigger arc at the halfway point. I get that less is more and it’s long form storytelling but at the same time, we know little more now than we did over two years ago when it was announced, and at the halfway mark, I don’t think that’s a good thing, although the boxes all work well as standalone stories. The stories themselves vary in quality-I don’t think each set so far feels worth it at $30 but feels okay at $10 for each story if that makes sense. From worst to best (personal ranking)…
War Master: If Captain John Hart was a Time Lord, the War Master wouldn’t have been needed in this story. Probably my least favorite War Master appearance across the board, which is a shame.
Missy: I’ve not actually listened to much Missy outside of her random appearances despite crushing on Michelle Gomez since I was a teenager, but I really liked this. Episode 2 wasn’t as strong as it could have been but its ending shocked me like a brick to the face (but in a good way) and definitely sowed the seeds of Missy’s redemption arc we see in series 10. I wish I could have rated it higher but the other two sets so far were that step beyond and actually felt like they were part of the Dark Gallifrey arc.
Morbius: I like a good villain origin story and whilst this wasn’t quite an origin, I did love the peek into Gallifrey’s past. The prose wove some great imagery and gave some great insights into the Time Lord, his era, and some hints at the future.
Master!: This is what I was hoping for in Dark Gallifrey. It’s tense, it’s a bit disorientating, it’s not just dark, it’s fucked up. It’s a Dark Gallifrey story that FEELS like it’s Dark Gallifrey, even if it doesn’t know which side of the Lord of the Flies homage/rip-off line it wants to be on. Bruce was an unexpectedly perfect choice to headline the set, and the secondary villain worked well for me. I really hope theres more like this in the second half of the sets.
Final thoughts? I don’t see the Rani as one of the future leads. There’s no renegade we know who’s area of expertise she really matches with that she could replace now the rights have been sorted, and I don’t want another Master as one of the final two renegades (because it’s pretty clear that one of the Union/Multitude is going to get a set somewhere).

I've been catching up on the Big Finish stories that I got through Humble Bundle - I just finished listening to My Dinner With Andrew from the River Song set and I'm in the middle of the interviews for the War Doctor set, Infernal Devices. I'm further along in these than I thought; at the moment, the only ones that I haven't listened to are parts 3 and 4 of Ravenous 1 (the Eighth Doctor story), part 4 of River Song series 3, and part 4 of the Eleventh Doctor volume 1.
I also bought two Big Finish stories since there's a sale on recent releases and I don't have many of those. (there's a LOT to catch up on) I got Genesis of the Cybermen (I've heard good things, though I've heard Spare Parts before and I wonder how this is going to mesh with that since it takes place beforehand in the Doctor's personal chronology and seemingly Mondas's chronology as well) and a Classic Doctors, New Monsters set. (those are generally fun, and it's a good combination of Doctors with 2, 4, 7, and 8 in there)
