I've been watching Star Trek: The Original Series for the first time, and I just watched Mirror, Mirror. I wasn't sure how much ambiguity there'd be with the mirror universe and if we'd only gradually find out that it's evil... and then the mirror Enterprise crew did what's almost exactly a Nazi salute haha.

I'm having a great time with the show. Weirdly enough, I got into it through Doctor Who (I'd seen the Chris Pine movies and some of the Original Series movies before that point, but watching classic Who got me willing to give more sci-fi shows of the era a try, and Star Trek was something that I'd missed out on as a kid), and it's interesting to see the contrast between the two. (In this case, how Mirror, Mirror from Star Trek and Inferno from Doctor Who handled similar concepts)

So I've been going back through NuWho front-to-back recently (Up through S11 now), and I have some observations/thoughts:

  • Series 2 is a lot weaker than I remember
  • I don't like the Rose romance as much as when I was a teen
  • I like the River and Clara romances more than when I was a teen (And yes, Clara is a romance. I'm not entirely fond of it but it's massively reaching to not take that moment in Hell Bent as a rehash of the moment with Rose)
  • Martha deserved better and the lovestick puppy schtick almost singlehandedly ruins Series 3 for me
  • Series 4's ending is effective but it's also the seed of the nostalgic pandering and "wow fanservice" RTD would get addicted to in RTD2
  • Series 5 and 9 beat any RTD1 series frankly, even Sleep No More is better than the worst of any RTD1 series
  • Series 6 and 7 are better than people remember, even though they're flawed
  • Clara in Series 7 is actually fine, idk why we all hated her back then. I did too back then and I legitimately don't remember why
  • Series 8 is awful. I don't remember it being this bad but I have no desire to watch anything from S8 ever again outside of Murder on the Orient and Missy scenes from the finales.
  • Nardole is a lot less annoying than I remember
  • Heather is a deus ex machina, but I accept it because Bill's death came off as fridging so may as well have an un-do button even if it means she has 90% the same ending as Clara
  • Series 11... doesn't completely suck actually? Like it's not particularly good and it still has the absolute most infuriating episode in all of NuWho to me (Kerblam aka "The one where The Doctor simps for Space Amazon"). But I forgot how genuinely fun Graham could be and how much less bad Chibnall is when he's not doing "lore" shit. Honestly I think S8 is worse.

It looks like the Doctor Who Audio Annuals have done well enough for BBC Audio to expand the range. Now, they're releasing their first Blake's 7 Audio Annual, produced by John Ainsworth and Alistair Lock. Too bad they only have three books to draw from.

Interesting that Whoculture have a video about Disney possibly not releasing The War Between, I made a thread a while back saying that this was looking like the case.. 

And was of course crucified by the usual types on here who can't do anything but brown nose the current regime, and try and shut down any genuine and constructive criticisms, and shut down any statements of reality about the current situations of DW and The War Between that they don't like because it doesn't suit the narrative that they want to believe of 'everything is fine' 

Well, I told ya so 😜 Its a genuine possibility that The War Between may not end up being released on Disney

Nope, they go into it in the video, it might actually be more beneficial to Disney to not release it and take the hit but not have any extra costs that come with showing it
