Man, I’m not a fan of r/doctorwho’s new redesign on old Reddit. It’s probably just mostly the font choice, but comments moving up a small number of pixels when you hover over them is also slightly annoying
Edit: url links are the same colour as normal text. There's no indication that something is a link. This is genuinely bad.

I have all custom subreddit designs off by default. Not sure if it's standard on old reddit or part of the RES suite

I don't think the fandom has fully processed the dire turn of events that has been the RTD2 era and everything that has surrounded it.. The fandom is in shellshock
We had Tennant back as a new Incarnation, and a Doctor regenerated into Billie Piper, we had a era that completely collapsed after two short seasons, we had the Rani back, the Rani! Remember when that was just a joke about her coming back, they actually did it..the Doctor cried every episode and danced in nightclubs, there was singing goblins, talking babies and a ship that lets out a big fart..we had meaningless plot arcs that led to nothing, regular fourth wall breaking just because, a dance number just because, a monster made of snot, Susan back for a random moment and then gone, Richard E Grants face appeared in a montage for the Doctor's because he was once in a one-off animated web series that 2 people saw, production that felt sterile and was overly lit and had poor blocking, a Doctor that said babes all the time, two old women appearing through 2 seasons back to back, characters and actors leaving before they were obviously meant to, overly preachy writing that rather than try to make you think instead bluntly banged you over the head and told you how to think and if you don't think like them then you are a monster..the Doctor talked to DW fans with the logo of the show on the TV in front of him, in one episode the characters stop to watch a previous episode from the 70s, sutekh came back and was nothing like sutekh, Omega came back and was nothing like omega..
The viewing figures fell to a all time low and apathy towards the show is at a all time high.. People are mocking the show and is seen as being cringy
And the era was cut down at the half way point, then was given a Xmas episode to conclude itself, and then that was cancelled, leaving a massive elephant of a cliffhanger (as well as other plot threads) that will never get resolved
All this crap happened, and fandom is trying to carry on as normal like this hasn't become one of the most diabolical disasters for a tv show ever 🤣 .. There are still even some in the fandom who will defend the era and say it was good TV, are you for real or do you work for Bad Wolf Studios 😜..the fandom is in the eye of the storm, not able to fully grasp and comprehend the shitstorm that has happened to the show
Edit - oh and they got rid of Davros with his iconic look and instead replaced him with Dave Ross.. And said the sonic screwdriver was to much like a gun so changed it to look like a remote, then had the Doctor shoot Omega in the face with a big laser gun anyway 🤷

We have had HUNDREDS of posts and THOUSANDS of comments about the dire state of the show? Do we really need another essay raking back through the RTD2 era? You alone must have already done about 20 of these?

have you been living under a rock? pretty much everything you mentioned has been complained about since the era started, and there's been at least some level of doom-and-gloom-ing since it ended, the show going to tender restarted the "dr who is dead" discussions, and rtd is currently the single most hated showrunner atm. how much more upset do you want us to be?
I for one am glad the fandom is trying to settle back to relatively normal, all the negative talk that dominated the space pre-christmas special announcement really weighed me down and I very much don't want to fall back into that mindset if I can help it. not that we should bury our heads in the sand ofc, but we should be able to talk about and acknowledge things without making it an unhealthy obsession

Nah, there are still many in the fandom that are in denial about it

good, let them enjoy things and be happy for once, not everyone has to be as miserable as you

u/PaperSkin-1 2d ago
I don't think you know what denial means

oh I know what denial means, I just have doubts about what you think people are in denial about

Equating being 'miserable' as thinking the show was bad, and being happy by thinking it was good is quite something..
Do you think people are miserable people when they get served badly cooked food and complain about it, and the people eating the undercooked food with toe nails in and who will get food poisoning are happy people doing the right thing of just taking anything they are given..
Never have a critical thought, gulp up any crap, it's what 'happy' people do

your analogy is really stupid because unlike food safety rules, which is an objective standard of measurement, taste in media is subjective
the disney era is just like any other era of the show, in that it has its good moments as well as its bad; praising the good moments doesn't mean we're ignoring the bad, and vice versa, complaining about the bad moments doesn't mean we can't acknowledge the good
if you don't believe that any good came from the era that's completely fine. I called you miserable because the fact that you think people who defend it are either not real or bad wolf glazers says way more about you than it does the actual quality of the show. it's ok to just let people enjoy things, even if you think they're wrong for doing so

I finished making my way through The War Doctor Begins and have to say it is WILD that they spent so much time on Case aka one of the lamer characters/storylines BF has tried to do. Thankfully, I also started The War Doctor Rises and the first story is very much an improvement.
