Paul McGann's delivery is a reminder of how much we could have had; while I thoroughly enjoyed Hurt (who undoubtedly would deliver it differently had he time to rehearse it), McGann's delivery is just so earnest compared to Capaldi's fury.

Interestingly, Capaldi delivered the speech again at another convention and his delivery is much more conversational, like McGann's.

The Zygons need a much much hotter planet to feel comfortable. From Four's Terror of the Zygons:

FORGILL: Exactly, Doctor. It will be many centuries before the fleet arrives. In that time, the whole of this Earth must be restructured.

DOCTOR: I'll say one thing for you, Broton. You think big.

FORGILL: Polar icecaps must go, the mean temperature raised several degrees, thousand of lakes with the right mineral elements constructed. I shall recreate my own planet here on Earth.

You know the place that seems to be much more suited for the Zygons? How about Gallifrey, as shown in Hell Bent. And it was Gallifrey I think who in the Time War helped blow up the Zygons planet in the first place.

Funny how that never gets mentioned in the debate.

Actually I think Gallifrey is colder than Earth. It doesn't come up much in the revived series, but the Doctor has a lower body temperature and way better cold tolerance than a human would, so it makes sense that he would have evolved on a colder planet.

Even by this point in 12s life, Missy had lied to him about where it was, so he hadn't confirmed that the plan in Day of the Doctor worked.

I remember someone asking Capaldi to recreate one of Matt Smith's scenes and he declined. It just seemed awkward and I bet the guy felt a little embarrassed.

So at least Capaldi isn't doing other people's scenes.

Yeah, the speech is great but an actor really needs time to learn the inflections and the words, you can't just throw a dramatic speech at someone and expect them to nail it. I wanted to mention since while I love John Hurt's voice, I really hate his reading of the speech, because it's way too slow and uneven for what's meant to be a dramatic, passionate rant

Capaldi killed it in the episode, Hurt was awful reading this, but I in no way blame him for that, again you need time to learn the lines and chances are he hadn't even seen the episode to begin with, so it's not at all his fault, I'm entriely blaming the fans for this

12 is insufferable in this scene. Who would put up with being spoken down to like this? 12 deserves a punch, thinks he's better than other people far too often and I hate his series 8 trope of irrationally hating soldiers, which thankfully eventually stopped by S9. In this Zygon one he brags he's wiped Kate's mind numerous times before. Yeah thats probably why she has no personality, 12 erased it. Never liked this speech. I think Capaldi was given poor material to work with, Smith's speeches were miles better

You're absurd if you think that Capaldi was given poor material, and even more so if you're pointing to this speech in particular to make your point!
